I Love My Car But

I have a 2011 MS3 (5688 miles(I'm sitting in it now)) I love the handling, the torque steer was fun, but I feel like I don't feel it anymore probably cause I'm used to it. People talk to me all the time about the car and how fast it is, but I don't think it's that fast. I had a 2011 WRX and that felt fast (and sounded fast). The MS3 feels a sluggish in comparison but I think it's mainly cause of 6 speeds vs. 5 in WRX. I bought the MS3 late but it was still new so I have it under warranty still. Any suggestions to quicken it up a little? I have thought about (ecu)tuning but I am concerned it will void the warranty. I talked to my mechanic friend about some minor mods (air intake, rmm, hpfp) but he said no cause of the warranty. I am bone stock, but have kept up with Roush Mustang, and dusted an old mr2 and a civic, but an SI one time really made me look bad (though it wasn't a fair start race).

BTW the MS3 is a luxury car compared to WRX in terms of amenities.

So is there anything I can do to get a little faster? Or is it cause I can't figure out 6 gears that I feel slow?

Read. RMM shouldnt void your warranty, just keep your old one if you ever have to bring it in and swap them before you go in. SRI as well, if youre that concerned about your warranty buy things easy to change back over to stock or leave it alone.

Fuel pump internals, intake, and AP is a good start. Your warranty is only voided if those mods cause a problem on your car; and they won't. Stock sucks!

if you want to go faster then do not worry about the warranty. You do not need to do much to this car to make it a decent amount faster so if you need to just stock out or if it is something small just eat the cost and do it yourself.

This forum is the land of voided warranties. Do some simple stuff (intake, internals, race pipe, AP and tune) and enjoy. Then stock out if anything needs work.

If you're worried about warranty than I guess as you say you'll just have to deal with the car feeling slow. This platform doesn't take much for it to pick up some good power. Stock out if you have warranty work that needs to be done. Keep reading the forum and donate.

Stock we're not THAT fast....the quickest, cheapest, and most reliable path for quickness would be intake, Cobb AP, HPFP internals, rear motor mount, test pipe or full length downpipe, and a tune. That will give you close to 300whp and 340wtq. Sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on fuel quality.

I would check out all the dealers around you to find a mod friendly one.

Like these guys said, a few minor tweaks and your old WRX will feel like your grandma's old station wagon. Get the basic stuff these guys said and tune (e85 if u really wanna have fun) and see what happens. Guarantee u sing a new tune (no pun intended)

And I understand your mechanic tells u don't do this or that but more times than not, mechanics don't know shit about this platform so they treat it like every other car on the road. Plus some of us random internet guys have put our cars through the fire already so guys like u don't have to make the same mistakes twice. Also, people like myself and a few other actually work for Mazda and can tell u, a RMM, we wouldn't even give it a second look. Its not gonna damage the car.

Just make sure anything you modify can easily be returned to stock. I still recommend everything in my other post, but maybe instead of HPFP internals maybe you could replace the entire pump and keep the OEM one in the garage. Also forego the full downpipe and ony replace the test pipe. Definitely replace the RMM; the stock one will fail eventually anyway. It was designed for the regular Mazda 3, so the torque from our engines will shred that bushing.

My mechanic is a family friend, maybe he doesn't understand the platform but he's looking out for my best interest. Also, if you see my location it says Virgin Islands. I live on a 31 square mile island. Not too many dealership options, (just one). I appreciate the mod advice and confirmation that the MS3 is not THAT fast on its own. I'm probably going to go forward with the removable mods so to speak. Thanks.

Actually I recall a thread here where a dealer actually recognized someone's use of HPFP internals and voided his warranty. Before I read that I would have agreed with you, but better safe than sorry.

Man to the op I feel u . I went from fully bolted to stock now I'm trying to et back to were I was again. The car does feel slow stock. Best mod to do is intake and rmm leave it right there just being able to hear the turbo makes it feel faster

i would just upgrade the fp internals and do a rmm and ap. the stock intake will flow enough for him to make more power with the higher boost levels and still have fun

I know i'm new but this isn't the easiest car to launch if your new to boosted cars.
Traction is a big issue and there is a fine line between bog/spin.
From a roll it takes ZERO skill. Hell, when i first bought the ms3 my wife pulled on me from launch in a k24z7. I caught traction and thats all she wrote.

As far as "my mechanic" goes, why mod a car if you cant even fix it when something breaks?
