OK my friend (great guy) bought a really clean '81 Corvette at a Mecum auction last year in Dallas. Since it is over 25 years old it is exempt from emissions laws here in Texas. We had plans to desmog it and tune it up as much as the stock low compression engine would allow. This part of the project went well.
While it is a beautiful all original car, it needed every bushing in the suspension replaced. I made the mistake of loaning my ezcarlift (ezcarlift.com) to him for what I figured would be 2 month project, tops.

Then he had a seizure and was diagnosed with brain cancer; meanwhile the car was torn all apart on my fucking lift. It's a real handy device and I use it a lot for all the cars here at the house.
After surgery, radiation, chemo etc. he is finally on the mend. And surprisingly enough, he still did most of suspension work albeit slowly. Finally, FINALLY, the car is back on tires and I can use this thing on my PU. I couldn't get it back to my garage fast enough!

I tell you there were days I wanted (needed) to use the lift so bad I felt like lowering that Vette down on cinder blocks while he was in the hospital and letting him find out that I had taken my lift back, but I just couldn't do it; shit they whacked the top of his head off getting to that tumor and it's been a long ride getting back to normal. Total time lost to this: 7 months. Never again. For the first time since I bought it, I'll get to lift my PU the easy way instead of using two floor jacks. Yippee!

A little side note to all of this: after determining that his brain cancer was the only cancer in his body, the oncologist thinks that exposure the chemicals used in restoring cars could be the culprit; he is particularly suspicious of brake cleaners and the like. That makes me stop and take pause.....

Sorry for the rant guys but I don't believe I'll be loaning my tools out anymore. The damnedest things can happen when you least expect it.

I think a car lift is a little different then a damn handtool. I doubt anyone of you would be cool just having a car up on your one and only lift for a year what happens if he used that shit to make extra money. Or help other freinds and family out.

Just to give you boys an idea since surgery obviously causes trauma to the brain. I was told to expect on the first day not to be able to complete a thought without communication. Day 2 is more like.... The sky is... The sky is.....? By the third day I'll will start to remember little things like the color of the sky.

So obviously what I'm trying to say is remembering shit after brain surgery takes a little time to say the least. I wouldn't doubt if that dude forgot he even bought the vette after surgery. Not because it wasn't a concern, more like it takes time for the brain to learn how to reconnect neuron paths for memory.

Depending on the location of the tumor, he could have been totally fucked but it sounds like it all turned out well based off the OP's stupidity.

I once lent a large sum of $ to a guy and he overdosed on cocaine (on the subject of feeling awkward having lent something and not getting it back). Say his friend has knee surgery and wouldn't come put his car back together so OP could have his lift for the time he needed it. If it was knee surgery it would have taken his friend longer to recover to make the car whole. So in that sense he should thank his buddy for having brain surgery.

If it was that big of a problem, be a "friend" and put his shit back together enough to roll it. Not come on here to complain about it after.

My situation is not for pity just some insight on brain surgery patients but thanks Finks!

Ha ha! I knew this stir some emotions! First off, the lift is great, that's why I missed it so much- if it were a piece of junk I wouldn't have cared at all.
Next, I have known this guy for over 30 years ( we are in our 60's). We both have small animals (cats) that we have taken care for each other when it was vacation time. We've done this for decades (since 1980).
During his journey with his cancer I have taken care of both of our small animals for days at a time so his wife could be at the hospital with him. Like me they have been married for over 35 years. This meant starting out at my house at 4am, getting my place lined out then driving 10 miles to his house to his animals taken care of. Then after work, same thing. He's had several extended stays like this so it has been a challenge at times because lots of time I have to work late. But it's all worth it, he's a guy that only had hunting as a passion, then 5 years ago swapped up and became a car guy. His wife is a fantastic woman as well, always at his side during this thing which gave the pleasure of repaying all times she took care of my cars for a whole week.
Bottom line in all this: loaning tools sometimes goes longer than you thought, figure out a new way to cleans parts besides what's in the AZ ( I use simple green and water since this), and never wish anything bad on anybody , I've seen that shit boomerang way too many time.
