(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Well folks I'm 46. So I don't exactly fit the demographic this car was aimed at, yet after driving an '00 Civic with automatic tranny for the last seven years, my MS3 feels like Nirvana (no not the band, if anyone even remembers them...). I LOVE my MS3. It's only been a week now, but this car makes my 25 mile commute (each way) a joy and *almost* makes it tolerable to go to work. So call me the old dude, but I feel absolutely no need to change anything. I even averaged 29 MPG in the first week with the car (thank you ScanGauge2) though that was mostly highway miles and I was babying it through the break-in period. So anyway I love this forum, seems the best out there for this car. I will continue to read about new intakes and turbo mods but my car will soldier on as OEM. Cheers! |

| Get yourself a Cobb AP, it won't disappoint you even with an OTS 91 Octane map and no other mods. If you do that, you'll pay the device off in gas money (assuming you don't drive like a bat out of hell afterwards), within a fairly short amount of time (depending on how much driving you do). I say this because . . . At least with my Speed6, I was getting ~27mpg highway before the AP, and once I switched, I was seeing 32mpg instead. That's nearly a 20% bump in fuel efficiency and definitely worth the price of the device. Oh...you also get a nice bump in horsepower and torque, and you can remove it any time you like. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Nirvana=last great rock band to be played on fm commercial radio... besides Rebecca Black that is. The great thing about the younger generations is that they are not confined to the radio and record stores thanks to the internet... shit, my 24 year old brother (I'm 28) probably knows more about the music of other generations than most people who lived through them do! but speaking of things forgotten, what is this stock you speak of? Anyway, I know you were just making a point, WELCOME! P.S., if you start asking for help, donate. fyi, he is speaking of pandora's box... you get an AP, and your fucked! It's like marijuana, the gateway drug... but theoretically, if you could purchase one and leave it at that, you should get better mileage, plus your power wouldn't cut off at 5.2k rpm (or whatever it is... 5.7k maybe???) like it does now. | Not Ranked : 0 score I am right with you. I just picked up a 2011 ms3 saturday and at 42 I feel 21 again. I had a previous life bulding drag racing rebuilding on and on. I agree it makes it fun to drive my 20 miles one way to work. I am considering an AP tune to unleash the power in first and second that the factory toned down. The big question is at what reliability expense does it come? I would like to get genpu in the mid 13s. Seems like most people on this forum list mods but not the results i.e. 1/4 mile times.....maybee dragging is not the past time of choice for this car. Enjoy your toy and donate or someone will be on your ass. |

Is the stock hpfp cool with those mods? No, unless you run a lower boost tune... gen 1 is a different story... if you're curious to understand further, read this thread: http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...closely-69969/ EDIT: Sorry, posted wrong thread... here is the right one | |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Coming in middle of the age gap here, although this site is sometimes, well, "coarse", the reason the guys are asking you to donate is because the site is funded primarily by member donations vs. vendor donations. We benefit from this unconventionally in many ways, the most important (imo) being the ability to read / provide unbiased reviews of products and save $ on installs etc. Regardless of your donation, enjoy your ms3... OH.. and Lenny is dieting hard so his post is less humorous than usual. |

Shit I donated not because people told me to but because with all I've learned I actually WANTED TOO donate. Stick around you'll love it here and best of luck trying not to mod. An intake and thousands of dollars later here I stand fully bolted, running meth, and getting my car tuned. So much for paying off the car sooner Have any questions let me know

| Not Ranked : 0 score I'm not older, but I am enjoying this car a lot more than I did my 1st Gen. Threw in a K&N drop-in filter and things have been peachy. Car pulls very hard and I am enjoying it, even if it does smoke like a diesel... I'm still going to attempt to get that looked at by a different dealer.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Agreed. I'm 45 and have owned my MS6 for 3 years. I STILL feel 20 years younger the instant I get in it. I never had an interest in working on cars when I was younger. I did my first oil change when I was 33, and didn't do much with my original 6S, right after I retired from the Air Force. But with this car, I WANT to work on it. My mods are basic so far, but I've done most of them myself (with some help), and have learned a hell of a lot about the car by doing so. My favorite part of the day is getting in my car after 8 hours of work/bullshit and getting on the highway, squealing tires and all. I can't imagine how old I'd feel right now if I didn't have my MS6.

| Not Ranked : 0 score On the CS RMM Inserts... I had them from 500 miles until recently. They were great when the car was in stock form. No vibes (after break-in), and really reduced banging/wheel hop/torque steer. After pulling the mount off after 15,000 mi, there were no cracks in the stocker or anything. I swapped them out for 2 reasons. 1. Got a good deal on a TRZ delrin mount 2. Now that I have a lot more power than stock, the inserts weren't quite doing the job anymore. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score After having a RMM and not liking it, I went back to stock. It wasn't harsh on my 1st Gen, but it didn't feel appropriate on my completely stock 2nd Gen. I have had CS inserts before, so I may order a set of those instead. I have a terrible itch to wrench on this car, but everytime I get in and drive, I love it exactly the way it is. And at first the K&N did nothing for the car, the more I drive, it seems to feel better and better. Less stumbling down low, and continued power up top. Could be a total myth, but that's what i've experienced so far.

Get off the sidelines "sonny". Mod it and really enjoy it. You would be surprised what a few easy and inexpensive mods will do for the performance of this vehicle. This car will keep you young and put a big grin on your face. Thanks for this post. I didn't know so many old farts were on here. I'll celebrate my 64th birthday this month and feel like a kid (and act like not too) when I drive my speed3. . ^^ If you don't believe my age see how well I posted this! Lol

| Not Ranked : 0 score fuck yea man!! stoked on your enjoyment of this car. i will say, my commute to work everyday in this car was made even better by a JBarone shift plate and bushings. both took about 1 hour total to install and make the driving experience even more awesome.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Well, this is the thread Ive been looking for. Im 47 and was really curious about 40 somethings and up with Speed3s. Guess I got my answer. Ive had mine for a year and really enjoy driving it. Put a CS SRI on it the first month (so much for my "keeping it stock" plans) I had it and just bought the Accessport a week ago and absolutely love what it does for the car. Anyway, glad to see theres other "old men" out there. Have fun! |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Just turned 40 here in 3/31 and u love my Speed3. Had an 07 Speed3 and loved it also. Also have an MX-5 to boot. So I'm either to old for a Speed3 or to young for a Miata. Screw the demographics for both! ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

| Not Ranked : 0 score I'm "almost" the oldest dude on the forum (at 55+ I think I'm ~4th now) and I had a great time representing MSF and driving the MSF (Ziggo's) Speed3 in The Forum Wars competiton. Old Farts Rule! Oh, and welcome to MSF. A bunch of real assholes hang out here and if you hang long enough you will discover that this is the freakin' BEST and most diverse car tech forum on the webz. There is plenty of shit from porn to religion in the VIP section!

| Not Ranked : 0 score Hey old timers. I'm long in the tooth too at 41. A coupla days ago some younger dude in a MS6 passed by me, looked over and started laughing. I don't look old, but I wondered for a second if we look stupid cuz we don't fit the target demographic for the MS3. But, who cares, right? It's just an F'n car.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Another oldster here (comin' up on 44). I sometimes feel a bit old when I think of how the 'Speed looks, but it really does drive well. Can't think of a better performance car for the money. Bone stock is plenty for me, thanks. Hell, I'm starting to worry about MPG's... maybe I shouldn't own this kind of car?

| Not Ranked : 0 score its nice to see people enjoying the car in stock form, i had a short ram intake and turbo inlet installed before i even had a proper license plate on the car ![]() just my $.02 if you do anything, anything at all to the car JUST to make it more drivable, fun, and more fuel efficient look into a short ram intake and Cobb AP. i saw noticeable MPG gains after i installed my short ram and turbo inlet. as everyone has stated the Cobb AP makes a pretty good difference too. you'll be doing yourself a favor and get to take pride in having a Speed3 thats just a little better than the average bear. and if all works out, you'll get bit by the moding bug and never look back ![]() old people loves these cars, i traded with my mom for her SUV because i needed the extra space for something. when she gave me my keys back she told me it was WAY to fast for my own good, and if i ever missed a payment she wouldn't think twice about taking it from me. now she compares it to my dads old trans am, i don't have the heart to tell her the trans am was SUPER slow in comparison. enjoy your stay, donate |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Damn I thought there were just a few of us 40 somethings in these cars! I'm starting to wonder how many yougsters are in em? I have only noticed one in two weeks of owning one and the driver was not under 40. I'm up to 750 miles and starting to let her rip a little......now I'm really wanting an AP. Gas mileage savings....seriously? Who would't want to burn less $4.00/gal premium? How long do these tires last with two daily 50 to 60mph cloverleafs, sure does wake me up at 5:30 am. Only negative so far...no more coffee on the way to work. |
