I traded it in. I just picked up a new Evo and I really like it. Can't wait to crack the bottle on modding it out. :beerchug: Darksun should have another field day on his hands with this one. :D |
No pics, no details??? Seems like alot of guys are crossing over...I'll be another one crossing over sometime next year. |

BTW there is a fucking faggot who doesnt like evos so be on the watch out for the fag groan |
I just got it today. I was wounded in the AFG so I was in texas, where I bought my MS3. I was on my way up to Ft. Lewis in my car when I got a wild hair up my ass after a lucky weekend in Vegas. So I stopped by the mitsu dealer in portland (well beaverton actually). With the mods and tune I had on the MS3 I can feel that the MS3 is faster (for 2 grand yay). But I just looked up the fucking Evo mods. With SRI, CBE, and TP (tuned) these dudes are getting 330 WHP and 324 AWT. WTF, no fuel pump upgrades, no fucking around with TIP's (evo doesn't really have one'ish. It is all the same thing coming from the turbo.) So I am pretty pumped here about starting my modding. I don't want anything retarded because I am gonna DD it for the the next 8 years or so, but I like pep. Also as a side note. I e-mailed cobb to see if I could swap the firmware on my AP to meet the Evo's specs. I hope can be done because fuck trying to buy a whole new AP. EDIT: Spelling errors etc. |
Lol, just when we finished the tune too. Congrats on the car though. Can't wait to see pics. Freekn tappin |

I asked about changing the firmware from my rx8 ap and they would do it, but they wanted more than it was worth if I just sold it and bought my ms3 ap.....gl with it and congrats on the new ride |
congrats man, you have become a statistic. |
congrats, but that was bumb.Trade in your car after finishing moding and tuning!! You should had done that from the beginning and safe$$$:smashfreakB: |
Grats, enjoy it. Thanks for serving. |
Congrats dude. Turn your DD into a BT fully built beast. My coworker did it! Worked out for a little while anyways.... :smashfreakB: |
Welcome to the club. I traded in my MS3 a couple days ago for an evo as well. Got any pics? Also, how many miles? |
Congrats on the Evo. I myself went a few months ago to a Mitsu dealer to see about a trade in too, it only seems like the natural progression away from a speed. Evo's are sexy as fuck. Kid down the street from me has a white one, was fully bolted up, and it drove me nuts listening to him start it up and drive away every morning. But after looking into the trade, the evo was way up there in price, and even though it would have been nice to have 2 awd cars at the house, for what I would have paid after my trade, and the cost of mods, I just started putting money into the speed instead. But congrats, and go build that thing so I can live vicariously thru you. |

You realize that you can change things with software right? That cobb can reflash the firmware in the AP to become single and Evo friendly, yes? Pics coming soon! I literally bought it brand spanking new and drove it from portland to tocoma WA, so it had 30 miles on it when I bought it and now almost 200 miles. @atvfreek ever tuned an Evo before brother? And yes I traded in after tune and almost fully bolted because I realized A. I really wanted an Evo to begin with and now had the means to afford one. B. Even the car in the tune stage etc it was in it wouldn't be exactly what I wanted or fast enough. Don't get me wrong, I loved my MS3, it saved my mind and gave me the therapy I needed when I worked on it, but you put 3 baby mods on the evo and tune and boom, you have something faster for 1600 bucks and no having to fuck with fuel (I was burned, so I am not a fan of fuel). |
Congrats, I guess. It's a cool car, but you guys who jump platforms every two years trip me out. I guess I'm just used to keeping shit for a looong time. And crazy upside-down loans with old equity rolled into them just don't seem worth it to me (not that that's what happened with you in particular, but I would bet money it has with alot of these threads). |
I had asked Cobb about switching the firmware on my WRX's AP to the one for the MS3 and they said that they couldn't/wouldn't do it. I don't remember exactly since it was a couple years ago, but you could easily sell your MS3 AP and buy the Evo's for close to what you sell it for. Gratz on the trade. I'm always of the mind that if you're not 100% behind your car, try another one. |

Thanks for your service. Good luck with your evo. |
lots of people making the switch. seems to be mostly evos. no sti love? |
dont see why the dark one would have a field day, you have only been on here for 3 months so its hardly a conversion, you apparently just bought the wrong car to start with. |
^^^ and in 3 months he'll probably be unhappy again and get a BRZ. |
I don't understand why people buy cars, keep them for a few months or even just a couple years, then trade them in. You should have just researched Mazdaspeed fail to begin with, and you would have been in the right car months ago. I would love to supplement my Speed with an Evo X. I just can't get my wife to look at it the same way I do. Lol! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 |

So time is filled with buying stuff. I certainly don't think that OP will be DDing the EVO for 8 years. But ... doesn't matter, people are free to do what they like. Enjoy the new car OP! |
Congrats! I would do the same, except a new Evo here is 42k for a GSR |

AWD cars are slow on the highway, least stock. My 2012 somehow beat a 2012 STI from a 40-120 punch 2 times the other night. My car is stock, really not sure if that was supposed to happen though but it did. But the 0-60 times on both are sick for 4 bangers. |
Congrats man! Always fun to start modding a fresh car. How much did they give you for the MS3 with all the mods on it? |
must have been some weekend |

Congrats... now tells us whats the secret to your winnings and how much http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/..._470x342,2.jpg |
I can't believe you sold the car married to the AP. Suprised they didn't give you an xtra $500 for the trade in. The Subaru dealer down here does it. |
Pix http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...s/IMAG0043.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...s/IMAG0042.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...s/IMAG0041.jpg When you uninstall the AP it makes it so you can use it on other vehicles. No biggy. So I uninstalled it and will have to sell it and buy a new AP. English racing up here doesn't even use that platform to tune the vehicle though, so I might just sell it and keep the money for my payment teehee.... The secret to winning cash is be patient and anticipate the odds. If you lose a shit load of times, then bet big and chances are you will win in the next 2 or 3 turns (or cuts, depending on what you play). |

Eww. |
Im deciding on a wrx or sti right now. but im def keeping the speed aswell. |

Have fun with the purchase. I work at a mazda/mitsubishi dealership and honestly man we do not have that many issues with evo's. Only time we have issues is when parents by kids this car as there first car and they go out and put some stupid shit on it like nitrous and then blow a hole in there block and bring back to use with only 4k on the clock wanting us to warranty there engine. YEs this did really happen at our shop. But I did the same as you though, but with no trade. I purchased a 2012 ms3 and I am coming from a 01 vw wolfsburg jetta. |
gratz man, if i had the dough i would go evo, or bimmer, or many other cars that are awesome and expensiver i only know about evo8's through a friend since he has one, and he uses an open source tuner - way more capable than an AP, and cheaper if you can go that route on an evoX do it... a local place (dynotech-tuning), reflashed and dyno tuned it for him, for half the price of an AP after the reflash he's able to see even more shit |
I actually thought about going with Bimmer lol, but that maintenance cost is WTF pwnage on the wallet. By the time you are done with the care you spent enough to by another car just on maintenance. Fuck that noise. Thanks for the tip monsta. I am gonna probably go with intake, tbe, and fuel rail, tune then call it good. That alone should be me around 350 whp safely. PS I am gonna by a PHAT PHUCK BOV FOR IT TO FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU lol |
Nice choice on the Evo. Great cars with no limits to what you can get out of them and actually use the power. I so badly wanted to get an Evo or STI after the MS3 but then I thought since I am just gonna mod it and waste all that extra money in getting some power out of it I should just put that money towards a better car so I bought a Vette instead. Now with only a pro tune on the car and completely stock I am sitting at over 400whp running 11's on stock crappy runflats. I will get me an EVO or STI one day though just for fun. |
Well I priced all the things I said and it is around 350 WHP for 2000 bucks dude. A vette is nice though, I just need something that is functional AND fun, which is why I liked the speed. That is with the Turbo Xs TBE. I found one for a really great price. |
I drove my buddy's last weekend. Felt like it was on stilts. Like my speed3 on my 16" winter tires. |
Yeah I felt the same way when I first test drove it, but I actually like that feeling now. It feels smooth and heavy (but isn't really that heavy). I don't feel like I am gonna fly away to the land of Oz like in the MS3, which is good and bad :D |

I guess congrats on the new car. My granny drives one too ya know. I guess I'm like the few people that like a sleeper car that no one knows about. Too many people leaving this platform when this will be one of the best years for the mazdaspeed ever. BTW, I beat a pretty bolted X at the track. He was 12.9 I was 12.3. |
Seems like a lot of ppl are leaving MS3s for Evos Sent from my Atrix |

Just a heads up, I managed to sell a married AP from a MS6 for $200 shipped about a year ago. The previous owner contacted Cobb and got it unmarried for $169.99 or something like that so you might be able to re-coop some cash |
Quote:

I've noticed the major trend of people jumping platforms.. It's always from the speed 3 to an evo. It's as though Mazda fucked up and people really do want AWD turbo standards.. Who would've thought? My guess is that in a couple years there will only be about 10k members of the speed community. |

I've only had the ms3 for 7 months im already debating to switch to evo. lol. just a little irritated about how evo owners don't need to mess with internals when putting on minor power upgrades while we have to just for adding a TIP. lol. |
Quote:
Price difference between MS3 and Evo = $10,000 - $16,000 Having to install internals = not really a deal-breaker IMO... |

Guess thats the cost of being able to do a 40 roll with out crying about having no traction like you're the first person to ever be affected by this uncommon event. |

The mazdaspeed 3 is a great car there is no doubt about that. The progression you are seeing isnt always guys wanting to go with something thats been tried and true. My guess is that most guys like myself wanted a Evo from the start. I never even knew about the speed3 until January 2011 when I spotted a gen2 at a dealership and was able to get it some reason even though I couldnt get a evo that cost less. I love the speed3 and its going to be hard to get rid of it if I even can because its been such a reliable overall great car. Some guys want a speed3 as there first choice and others dont. Every car has its flaws its just what people want overall that effects there choice in vehicles. |
Not a bad trade in and the gun metal looks great on EVO's but I would have went with the STi. Just my opinion. |
Sti's are garbage. Lol |
Quote:
@Tokay444 |
I can't even remember how many I had yesterday on my drive home from work. |
It is true that the STI was beaten in every major event as far as trim, performance, and reliability. Evo is an amazing platform. Also if you UNINSTALL the AP it is no longer married to your vehicle and you can sell it for full used market value. |

Yeah my ass isnt going anywhere. I am gettung my tbe, 3 port, and tune on my evo next week. I will post results on this thread. |
I heard if you catch a evo you get a pot of gold! Is that true? |
I am a huge Evo fan and have always wanted one. A month after I bought me ms3 2008 they started selling Evo on 0 percent APR. I could have gotten one then but it was too late. Enjoy the car and if you pass by Chicago PM me for a ride ;) |
I do dig the Evo X. I wouldn't mind having one. I was looking at getting one earlier this year. But, the only way I could get my old lady to agree was to sell/trade the MS6 for it, and I just can't part with it right now... Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 |
Ok so here is a super shitty video of my dyno day!! http://youtu.be/jrIMkgqhQWs Here are the results with a TBE, 3 port, and SRI (mods and tune cost 2k) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...m/IMAG0048.jpg I am in love all over again after today. Thank you Jebus. @Darksun280 check it out. What is your next suggestion? I have read the other forums, but I want your input. |

Yes I did. It is in my sig :P:tongue: |
Was it Aaron or Lucas doing the tuning? |
Aaron Edit: Lucas was in the same room fixing an eclipse. |
Nice numbers for simple mods. Before I deployed last year I was looking at either an Evo X or more importantly an Evo IX, but they are both just so damn exspensive. After doing a lot of looking into it, I felt that the MS3 was the better option to have fun with. Maybe someday in the distant future when money is right and hover cars still dont exist, I will go the Evo route. |
Lol I bought this with my Deployment monies. Quote:

Yeah my money is already spent before I even get on the plan. I really hate paying debt lol |
The darkness, what up Darkrune, so happy for you but at the same time a little envious, fuckin Evo! Fast, fast, fast. Just ordered a strut tower brace from WERKSracing, gonna beeeee in bigggg trouble tomorrow Heidi is gonna give me grief but tonight it's all good my friend. How the hell are you? Every time I go to a meet I'm thinking where's that fagg in the black Gen2. lol JK my brother JK! Always good to see you posting here. Traitor(Dolf Lungren in universal soldier) lol |

I recommend you look into getting an E85 tune. The supporting mods you will need are 1000+ cc injectors (I recommend FIC1100, $400) and the Blaqops wal bro 255lph fuel pump kit for $250, which comes with a filter and everything you need for then pump. People have seen gains of 40-60whp with E85, and that can easily put you in the 380whp territory. My TBE is coming Monday and I can't wait to install (although the DP is a pain in the ass from what I've read, similar to the MS3). |
I actually like this community more than the guys on the other forums. They get mad if you say fuck. ...... Fuck. |
