Have fun with the purchase. I work at a mazda/mitsubishi dealership and honestly man we do not have that many issues with evo's. Only time we have issues is when parents by kids this car as there first car and they go out and put some stupid shit on it like nitrous and then blow a hole in there block and bring back to use with only 4k on the clock wanting us to warranty there engine. YEs this did really happen at our shop. But I did the same as you though, but with no trade. I purchased a 2012 ms3 and I am coming from a 01 vw wolfsburg jetta. |
gratz man, if i had the dough i would go evo, or bimmer, or many other cars that are awesome and expensiver i only know about evo8's through a friend since he has one, and he uses an open source tuner - way more capable than an AP, and cheaper if you can go that route on an evoX do it... a local place (dynotech-tuning), reflashed and dyno tuned it for him, for half the price of an AP after the reflash he's able to see even more shit |
I actually thought about going with Bimmer lol, but that maintenance cost is WTF pwnage on the wallet. By the time you are done with the care you spent enough to by another car just on maintenance. Fuck that noise. Thanks for the tip monsta. I am gonna probably go with intake, tbe, and fuel rail, tune then call it good. That alone should be me around 350 whp safely. PS I am gonna by a PHAT PHUCK BOV FOR IT TO FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU lol |
Nice choice on the Evo. Great cars with no limits to what you can get out of them and actually use the power. I so badly wanted to get an Evo or STI after the MS3 but then I thought since I am just gonna mod it and waste all that extra money in getting some power out of it I should just put that money towards a better car so I bought a Vette instead. Now with only a pro tune on the car and completely stock I am sitting at over 400whp running 11's on stock crappy runflats. I will get me an EVO or STI one day though just for fun. |
Well I priced all the things I said and it is around 350 WHP for 2000 bucks dude. A vette is nice though, I just need something that is functional AND fun, which is why I liked the speed. That is with the Turbo Xs TBE. I found one for a really great price. |
I drove my buddy's last weekend. Felt like it was on stilts. Like my speed3 on my 16" winter tires. |
Yeah I felt the same way when I first test drove it, but I actually like that feeling now. It feels smooth and heavy (but isn't really that heavy). I don't feel like I am gonna fly away to the land of Oz like in the MS3, which is good and bad :D |

I guess congrats on the new car. My granny drives one too ya know. I guess I'm like the few people that like a sleeper car that no one knows about. Too many people leaving this platform when this will be one of the best years for the mazdaspeed ever. BTW, I beat a pretty bolted X at the track. He was 12.9 I was 12.3. |
Seems like a lot of ppl are leaving MS3s for Evos Sent from my Atrix |

Just a heads up, I managed to sell a married AP from a MS6 for $200 shipped about a year ago. The previous owner contacted Cobb and got it unmarried for $169.99 or something like that so you might be able to re-coop some cash |

I've noticed the major trend of people jumping platforms.. It's always from the speed 3 to an evo. It's as though Mazda fucked up and people really do want AWD turbo standards.. Who would've thought? My guess is that in a couple years there will only be about 10k members of the speed community. |

I've only had the ms3 for 7 months im already debating to switch to evo. lol. just a little irritated about how evo owners don't need to mess with internals when putting on minor power upgrades while we have to just for adding a TIP. lol. |
Quote:
Price difference between MS3 and Evo = $10,000 - $16,000 Having to install internals = not really a deal-breaker IMO... |

Guess thats the cost of being able to do a 40 roll with out crying about having no traction like you're the first person to ever be affected by this uncommon event. |

Bike > RWD > FWD > By my logic I should turn in my MS3 for an Evo... |
The mazdaspeed 3 is a great car there is no doubt about that. The progression you are seeing isnt always guys wanting to go with something thats been tried and true. My guess is that most guys like myself wanted a Evo from the start. I never even knew about the speed3 until January 2011 when I spotted a gen2 at a dealership and was able to get it some reason even though I couldnt get a evo that cost less. I love the speed3 and its going to be hard to get rid of it if I even can because its been such a reliable overall great car. Some guys want a speed3 as there first choice and others dont. Every car has its flaws its just what people want overall that effects there choice in vehicles. |
Not a bad trade in and the gun metal looks great on EVO's but I would have went with the STi. Just my opinion. |
Sti's are garbage. Lol |
