It is true that the STI was beaten in every major event as far as trim, performance, and reliability. Evo is an amazing platform.
Also if you UNINSTALL the AP it is no longer married to your vehicle and you can sell it for full used market value.

I just worry about how pretty the tail lights are....cause that's all you see of my car!! What up my brother? Still stateside? Still going over to Afgan? Yes if you uninstall the AP you can install on another speed, even if it's not you can send it to Cobb and they will clear it.

darkrune 06-26-2012 06:54 PM

Yeah my ass isnt going anywhere. I am gettung my tbe, 3 port, and tune on my evo next week. I will post results on this thread.

surebOOst 06-26-2012 11:40 PM

I heard if you catch a evo you get a pot of gold! Is that true?

dead-zone 06-27-2012 12:10 AM

I am a huge Evo fan and have always wanted one. A month after I bought me ms3 2008 they started selling Evo on 0 percent APR. I could have gotten one then but it was too late. Enjoy the car and if you pass by Chicago PM me for a ride ;)

I<3Groceries 06-27-2012 09:51 AM

I do dig the Evo X. I wouldn't mind having one. I was looking at getting one earlier this year. But, the only way I could get my old lady to agree was to sell/trade the MS6 for it, and I just can't part with it right now...

I am in love all over again after today. Thank you Jebus. @Darksun280 check it out. What is your next suggestion? I have read the other forums, but I want your input.

Hey bro did you get tuned at English? Wanna go do karate in the garage?

darkrune 07-05-2012 10:24 PM

Yes I did. It is in my sig :P:tongue:

CorkSport 07-05-2012 10:44 PM

Was it Aaron or Lucas doing the tuning?

darkrune 07-05-2012 10:57 PM

Aaron

Edit: Lucas was in the same room fixing an eclipse.

THE REAPER 07-05-2012 10:58 PM

Nice numbers for simple mods. Before I deployed last year I was looking at either an Evo X or more importantly an Evo IX, but they are both just so damn exspensive. After doing a lot of looking into it, I felt that the MS3 was the better option to have fun with. Maybe someday in the distant future when money is right and hover cars still dont exist, I will go the Evo route.

darkrune 07-05-2012 11:09 PM

Lol I bought this with my Deployment monies.

I recommend you look into getting an E85 tune. The supporting mods you will need are 1000+ cc injectors (I recommend FIC1100, $400) and the Blaqops wal bro 255lph fuel pump kit for $250, which comes with a filter and everything you need for then pump. People have seen gains of 40-60whp with E85, and that can easily put you in the 380whp territory. My TBE is coming Monday and I can't wait to install (although the DP is a pain in the ass from what I've read, similar to the MS3).

darkrune 07-05-2012 11:34 PM

I was going to go with a MS3 but I was tired of working with the local dealers so I'm selling mine on my own and going with a new Subaru WRX.

All you need for 350+whp from the new WRX:

Td05/06 20g new - $800
Injectors - $400
Walbro - $100
Catless DP - $180
Open Source E85 tune - $150

That's around $1,600. Sell the stock VF-52 turbo for $600 (sold mine in a couple days for that) and you could build an 11 second WRX for around a grand. Ask the EVO X that wouldn't leave me alone on the highway how my shitty cast pistons tasted as I put lengths on him with the budget build...

In all truth though I love EVOs and if I could swing one now I would.

surebOOst 07-06-2012 12:14 AM

My evo is sitting up there at English :D I wont get to meet those guys up there at the shop but through all emails and phone calls those are a good group of guys. They actually care about what you want with your car instead of telling you "what" they are going to do like other shops ive been quoted from.

THE REAPER 07-06-2012 12:23 AM

For me I like the idea of E85, and was actually pricing E85 conversion kits when I was pricing Evo's and WRX cars, but my biggest drawback was right now where I live, you have a better chance of filling your car up with liquid diamonds that you do E85. You would think since this is the midwest "heartland" corn fuel would be everywhere:banghead:

Plenty of corn fuel around my area. In fact it seems to be growing in popularity with the general public. For the longest time I never saw anyone else pumping E85 when I would go for a fill up. In the past month though every time I have gone to get gas at least one other person has been getting E85 if not more than one. I had to wait for a pump for the first time ever this week.

THE REAPER 07-06-2012 12:46 AM

I mean I get the whole drought thing, but even 2 years ago there were only 2 gas stations in Wichita that sold it, and now there is 4. For me personally it is frustrating that the largest city in Ks only has 4 stations. Ohwell soon I will be out in nascar country in NC where there are all sorts of crazy fuels to use lol

secondchance 07-06-2012 01:01 AM

Am i the only idiot who went from an Evo to an MS ?

LOL.

The evos are amazing, and easy to make massive power with, but having a family makes the lack of trunk space annoying, not to mention the upkeep (specifically in canada) is really pricy when u hit the time to re do breaks and such.

For now, bad crops take a while to to hit the market, Texas corn farmers are like three weeks away from no rain really bad year for corn.

Hmm. I'm making 40 less hp, but 40 more lb/ft with less than a grand in mods (ap, internals, Sri and tp). And I still get better gas mileage than you.

Gas mileage? This isn't a hypermilling forum. The torque advantage is relatively useless in a FWD car. The dyno is pretty impressive for pump gas. He also has much more drivetrain loss. You are kidding yourself if you don't think 99% of the Mazdaspeed owners wouldn't love to have a stock turbo that could put down those kinds of horsepower numbers on pump gas.

Darksun280 07-06-2012 07:45 AM

Edit: I changed my mind. Go E85 if you have a daily. others the gas milage will make you pull your eyes out.

Also Its not fun to only have a year or less of payments on the car and your trying to build the motor cause your forced to. You car might not be the fastest in the area but try to just enjoy it for now. Get rims, gauges, a lip, and all that shit out of the way. and get at least 5k set aside for evo disaster fund which any mitsu owner should have.

Tokay444 07-06-2012 08:05 AM

I'm no hypermiler, but you're not winning any races if you run out of petrol.

You can't compare city mileage to track mileage.

Most cars like these on average get 4-7mpg at the track (depending on # of straights, turns, etc). You will have to refuel with either car.

im not worried about the ringland issue. i know what its from and it would have been fixed. but im going for a wrx now since i really dont want the payment of the sti. not worth it imho.

i dont like the short gears of the sti either.
basically i just dropped 3-4k in the speed 3, and to be able to do that i would have to get the wrx.

anywho, i still gotta get rid of this G6 my sister has. if not, fuck it ill buy that from her and have a small ass payment :popworm:

By that logic we should all be driving Civic DXs. Besides what type of racing does anyone here do where fuel mileage remotely matters?

First off :gives bandaid: this is for your hurt butt. Secondly those parts cost roughly 1200$ plus whatever tune you paid for. You have no exhaust pieces whatsoever which means you have stock cats. That being said, you are telling me you have a miracle machine that makes 290 BHP on simply a AP and Intake as power mods? So let's really do the math here. You paid 1400$ 600 for AP, 400 for internals, 250 for SRI TIP, and 100-200 dollars for a tune. Secondly the reason you make more torque is because of displacement. The Evo has a 4B11T motor that is 2.0L and the MS3 has a MZR DISI 2.3L. In a forced induction vehicle that amount of displacement difference makes for a lot of torque. The reason Mitsubishi did not go for more displacement is because 2.0L was the standard for rally racing as a limitation (subaru also makes a 2.0 engine in Japan for rallying, but brought the 2.5L to the Americas). Thirdly I average 20 MPG on a daily basis with a combination of city and highway driving.

Let's look at my set-up. TBE 800$ Cobb SRI 165$ Cobb 3 port 110$ DynoTune 300$. That is 1375 dollars for an increase of 85-90 HP over stock. The reason I spent more money is because I wanted gauges installed and not have to do it myself, because my burned arm and hand can't fit in small places and doesn't work as well as a normal one. So that cost me around 500 dollars all said and done.

Don't forget now, I owned a MS3 and did some good things with it, so I know that with your mods and tune you are putting down 250-260 BHP maximum. I think you are just an Evo hater, which is fine, but at least don't have false information and shitty logic about fuel economy to hate on them.

OK I will save up before I do anything and enjoy the car. It is fast enough for me anyway. I get around most places under light boost anyway. I am tuned at 27LBs tapering to 20lbs, so it goes when it needs to. Thanks.
