Yeah I guess this car, dominant in the P1 LeMans series, must not be a track car...since it's AWD. Correct?

So it's all subjective.
People have their preferences.
I do however seem to be the only one in this thread who has put forth any form of proof to my argument that awd is not superior to any other platform, but in fact it's shortcomings outweigh it's minimal advantages.
To the one dude that said awd was never intended for drag racing, I ask you this. Was fwd?

Lamborghini's closest thing to a hard core track car...
The balboni edition....
Wait for it...
Rwd.
Their head test driver, when asked what he wanted out the "ultimate Lamborghini", said "make it rwd".

I know some db thats building a 600+ pump 700+race gas evo.....he also owns a speed 3 :)

Im too lazy to continue this argument. Im sure no matter what I say, your opinion will never change.

I do suggest you do a little research on some of the more sophisticated AWD systems and how they work. Particularly S-AWC and ATESSA.

Start with this...skip to bottom of first post.

I'm not saying AWD is the best but if your trying to mod your car, it'd be better to start off with an evo better platform for modding

But basically what you're telling me is, awd hides the sloppiness of a lazy/bad driver?

That is basically what I have been saying all along in multiple threads. AWD is easier to drive at the limit for your average driver. FWD takes more finesse. Funny thing is though that you guys talk about AWD having training wheels as if its a bad thing. Do you have massive amounts of track experience with your car and the talent to back it up? The truth is almost all of us are novices here. You may think you are pushing your car to the limit on the street but the reality is probably 7/10ths of that. You will learn more in four hours of track time than a year of street driving.

The "training wheels" of AWD allow novices to maintain more control. This in turns allows a guy like me to focus on my racing line and braking instead of fighting the car or worrying about what I do if I lose control. But what do I know right? You already are Michael Schumacher in your own head.

As for the topic of which launches harder FWD or AWD I am not even going to go back to that again. You are just trolling.

A little body roll actually doesn't mean the car doesn't handle well. The MX-5 has body roll is is considered one of the best driver's cars in the world.

Man this thread has turned into fwd/rwd vs awd. I think this can be solved very easy though. AWD is great for a car you can run everything from autox, road course, drag and still have a car you can drive year around as a DD. Its also very helpful when making gobs of power in a street car and wanting to put it all down no matter what speed you are driving.

But when it comes to professional racing rwd is always going to win over awd and fwd. Rwd is lighter than AWD which gives huge advantages when racing others who actually can drive. Rwd handles better than FWD when racing others who actually know how to drive. Plain and simple RWD in professional racing will dominate FWD and AWD because of those 2 advantages.

This was never about RWD. Everyone knows RWD is by far and away the best drivetrain layout for full race cars or dedicated track sluts. This was about a few members saying that AWD is useless and FWD superior to it even in launching capabilities. How many of you FWD guys honestly buy that? Suddenly AWD is for handicapped children and FWD for the veteran race driver who wants more performance than his inferior RWD sportscar can give him. Shit is getting stupid.

If you go to the last page and read all of the posts you will see where rwd came into the mix. I know awd is better street wise fro making power and have the average joe hit a track. Why do you think I bought an evo? Because awesome? that and because I have loved the 9 since I saw them and they have tremendous potential

I agree with you and this forum is full of average Joes despite what some people think of their driving ability. I think the MS3 is a great car and one of the favorites I have owned but for me I can drive the WRX faster and with more confidence. My only gripe with this thread is the people saying that AWD is useless from a performance standpoint. Being that we are not professional drivers there is merit in having AWD performance cars. Also I just cant believe that someone actually believes that FWD out launches AWD. Has to be trolling.

And yes EVO's are awesome. If I had the money when I was shopping for a new car to throw down on an EVO I would have. All of the used ones in the mid 20's I found were ragged out. I have always had a soft spot for WRX's so I went that direction instead since they fixed most of the issues with the previous gens. I also know that on a road course I wouldn't stand a chance. I have punched a few EVO's lights out at the drag strip but they do even better when there are corners.

Im going to have a hard time getting rid of my speed3 if I can actually bring my self to sell it. I like the idea of speed and evo.

If you don't have to sell it keep it. Two great cars is better than one and that way if you have something happen to either one you still have a fun car to drive around in.

I would have an entire stable of turbo cars if I didn't have a sensible wife to keep me grounded.

Thats another reason it might have to go lol My wife doesnt seem the purpose in having race car back up to race car. I told her if it doesnt involve a plate, bread, pb&j and some chips then she had no input.

But seriously she doesnt want me to keep both.

Why not have her drive the MS3 so you can keep both?

Because I have 2 small kids and her element is much more practical. She doesnt know how to drive manual and I kinda like the fact while im gone she cant crash my cars lol

This was always about awd not being the ideal platform.
Whether you interpreted that to mean fwd>awd or fwd and rwd>awd is your own prerogative.
But like I said. It doesn't launch well. 7.58 vs 6.94

I've had a "track career" spanning 3 decades. Never once needed awd.

Why so cryptic? What is your track experience? If you have experience racing FWD cars why not say it?

So if AWD doesn't launch well then I am sure there are a line of MS3 guys that would love to come to Bandimere and throw down some money on some 1/4 mile runs? If its true I am sure somebody will come take my money right? Street tire vs Street tire.

Tokay444 07-10-2012 07:57 AM

I've been racing karts my whole life.
I've spent a lot of time on the track in many different cars, but all my league experience comes from karting.

darkrune 07-12-2013 12:16 AM

Zombie Thread!!! I am getting my Blouch 2.0XT put in and posting numbers here for those interested. atvfreek miss you bro.

darkrune 07-13-2013 02:39 PM

I went to JMS here in San Antonio and they were professional, friendly, and took their time to make the install and tune right. The car drives smooth as silk off boost, and on boost it drives like a fag in a vagina. Fast , away, and crying loudly.

obijack 07-13-2013 02:57 PM

u have bolt ons and a tune, with over 400 whp? Thats is to easy if so, its not fair.

darkrune 07-13-2013 03:03 PM

No, sorry the Blouch Dom is a turbo. This graph is at 100* F and 25lbs of boost.

surebOOst 07-13-2013 07:54 PM

You know you didnt have to upgrade small turbo for a small turbo to make 400whp?

darkrune 07-13-2013 08:28 PM

This turbo is like a red. How is that small and if I want to make more power E85 will give me 50+ more. This was done in 100* weather too.

surebOOst 07-14-2013 05:21 AM

Sorry, When it comes to Evos, if I see an "Upgraded turbo" and the car is making stock turbo numbers...i figure that upgrade was a waste. Knowing you were on pump making 400 is better. I though you were on E making that power because ive seen many X guys upgrade to a "better" turbo and still only make stock turbo numbers but seeing as your not finished tuning and still have an E85 tune in the mix...then all is retracted.

darkrune 07-14-2013 04:57 PM

Thank you. Not only that but I would also be making around 30 more HP in cooler weather. I should be getting my E-85 tune in august.

4G63 07-14-2013 05:17 PM

Fwd is gay. It belongs on unmodified daily drivers.

Glad you still have the Evo and are loving it. Best decision you'll ever make in a 4 cyl car. Had mine and been dd'ing is with the numbers below on stock block/tranny for 2 years. Could switch to e85 for an easy 500whp but i like it now as a dd. Keep going man the X is much more suited to DD however. I will be turning mine into a weekend only car over the next few years.

Again congrats bud

darkrune 07-14-2013 06:29 PM

Yeah I love the 8 and 9 but the X has creature comforts stock. Like blue toothing music to my radio from my phone and comfy seats.

darkrune 07-14-2013 08:01 PM

Thanks man.

L3THAL6 07-14-2013 09:07 PM

Congrats on the new ride! :D

darkrune 09-01-2013 10:20 AM

OK! So I had some cams put in and here is my dyno sheet. So far I have invested approximately 9k in the car to include clutch package. Not too bad.

The Evo guys come back here because once you've been Nator, unless you really fuck up, you're still Nator.

And we like to laugh at them breaking shit all the time, so it's a win-win.
