Default Installed COBB SRI..first mod, not bad

Just installed the COBB short ram intake earlier today in the 1 hour i had in between school and work. Gotta give a shout out to eric@edgeautosport, those guys do a great job getting you what you need, took exactly 48 hours for the box to be sitting at my front door. DEFINITELY recommend them to anyone on the forum. Opened it, came double boxed with super safe packaging. Took me about 45 minutes to have everything in and running. Restarted ecu and started it up. Start up sounded about the same as before, after waiting for it to warm up i revved it and noticed a HUGE change in sound of the breathing of the engine, the spooling of the turbo, and the stock BPV was MUCH louder than expected. No CEL at anypoint so far. Drove it around, definitely a minor change in power, not going to run it too long without the AP and internals (which are being ordered withing the next 2 weeks). What were your guys' thoughts and discoveries after installing your SRI? LOVING mine so far.

Don't forget your internals buddy!
Much more important to have internals with the AP, rather than that SRI.

I'm pretty sure the intake causes CELs, you might not get one right away but you will eventually. You are on the right track though Enjoy your mods, the AP and fuel pump will make a huge difference in comparison though.

No issues here, but I did pull my battery cables after installing.

SRI i a good start, and then next is the big leap, and you know where you will get the AP and FP internals from already.

Learning step by step, newbie. Nice.

RMM or inserts make this car feel a buttload better. And as far the my sri/tip, i didn't really notice too much of a difference other than the sound.

CEL will be hit or miss. Go ahead and get a RMM. Makes you feel more connected to the car.

Just put my SURE SRI in a few days back. Same thing, pretty noticable change! I had a CAI in my last car so when I heard the very different "sucking" sound that the SRI gives, I thought I had installed something wrong. After some reading I realized it was normal and then I was able to really start enjoying it. Good luck with your future mods!

Heard this a lot, no CEL for me after 6k+ miles
Maybe there is too much oil on the filters in these cases

I'm pretty sure when I had it I saw no CEL. Do you own a Cobb intake?

EDIT: yes you do, but every car is different.

I have the Cobb intake and turbo inlet pipe on my MS6.

Fuel trims did not change one bit (no MAF calibration, just factory parameters) so of course no CEL. As should be, considering Cobb states their MAF housing is molded like the factory unit so airflow is measured the same. I love mine, and picked up ~15-20 g/s of max airflow after install with identical fuel trims and no other changes.

I noticed that actually.. but the wire bundle has a plastic cover on it, the hose clamp IS rubbing against that but as long as that cover stays on the wires are going to be safe.

Get it OFF that cover. It WILL fuck up the ECU wiring. Common, and $$$$ if it does.

glad that you fixed it, I have had to repair one members wire harness on here cause of that, lucky for him I was able to lay new wire in place of the damaged wire and make it look nice and clean like from the factory. But I have read where some dealerships will bight you in the ass and say you need a whole new freaking harness.

I didn't watch the video but are you talking about the "Cobb SF + TIH clamp rubbing against the wiring harness" problem? If not I would figure out what I'm talking about. If not ignore my laziness please.

My Cobb SF actually broke. The lower mount, where it bolts to the battery tray, broke in two. I can also see a "line" in the hood "fiber mesh" lining where the SF must have been rubbing the underside of the hood. Throw in a couple good wrong gear, "the engine hit the firewall" shifts on the stock motor mounts and it will snap. So the fix it to either bend your entire bracket down on the Cobb SF to give it plenty of room to clear the hood. Or get an aftermarket RMM. Or do neither and just say fuck it let it happen and now it just wiggles around a bit in the engine bay, like I did.

But yeah the intake sounds good. I also have an original dyno sheet from a real dyno (well a dynapack at least) and I gained 23whp and 43wlbs/ft of torque from the Cobb SF, TIH, and an AP set to stage 1, same day, same dyno. (I promptly switched to safe mode and installed internals after experiencing FACEFULL OF STEERING WHEEL or is it FACEFULL OF WINDSHIELD or whatever 3 miles after leaving the douchebag shop that thought they knew the MS3/MZR/DISI shit which he obviously didn't).

Oh yes, while I'm here: to Cobb Tuning can you please send me a new SF SRI mounting plate to replace my broken one? I mean its more of a bit of a defect in the design than me screwing it up, yknow? You know you can do it. I promise I'll either get a RMM soon or line the new plate up better this time.

Yes I will help you tune your K04/pump gas car; I have much less experience than the major players but I also charge you $0 and can turn you around quickly. 4 satisfied customers and counting...

Heard this a lot, no CEL for me after 6k+ miles
Maybe there is too much oil on the filters in these cases

I thought it had to do with the COBB having a larger MAF housing diameter than stock?

Wow, nice gain from the AP.. when i baselined i was at 220whp, after installing COBB SRI/TIP and TP i was at... 220whp. Granted, my mid-range went up a ton and i spooled faster but it did nothing for peak.

Disagree. Most folks go with the cobb because the lack of CELs... I installed mine about 3k miles
I went 7 or 8k miles before I got an ap, then started self tuning
on stock internals....(yep) now 17k miles and the only cell I've had was for my catless dp after install of it before my retune.

Would prolly groan you for your misleading crap if i was not on my phone.

OP you'll be fine.

Incorrect afaik. Cobb's MAF housing is a wider diameter than stock which causes CEL's due to the large difference in air coming in that the computer cant handle. People go with Corksport or Aero when they want to play it safe with CEL's because their MAF housings have the same diameter as stock. I recall this being listed in Cobb's documentation as well. Some get lucky and their OEM tune copes with it, some get CEL's. But Cobb's CEL % is considerably higher due to the MAF housing.

I installed the Cobb SRI and Turbo XS BOV on my car at 3,000 miles. I have 33k on the car now and have only had one CEL. And that was my fault as the intake was not fully seated when I installed it. These are my only mods to the car and it has been trouble free.

Read their site along with any documentation on the intake, it specifically tells you it can cause CELs because of the MAF housing being larger. Just because you didn't get one doesn't mean it can't happen.
