Installed Hidden Hitch + Sportrack 2EZ on Gen2

Loving the new setup, I highly recommend the hidden hitch reciever over the curt becuase the hidden hitch sits more flush with the bumper. The sportrack(rebadged Thule 2 Bike Hitch Platform) is awesome, but kind of scares me because it feels like it could be a little wobbly.

EDIT - Here's more pics of the hitch

Lookin' good! Do you have another pic of just the rear with the hitch installed? How clean is it?

mwcraven 12-26-2011 07:55 AM

Yeah another pic by itself would be pimp, I am a rider myself

mionky 12-26-2011 02:12 PM

Does the bike stick out of either side? I am still trying to decide on a hitch bike mount or a roof bike mount.

Go with the hitch, much better ....... just made a 500 miles roundtrip and everything ok

I updated the first post with more pictures.

how much is the hidden hitch? I assume you installed it yourself? did you have to drill anything?

jkmags 12-29-2011 08:01 AM

The Hidden Hitch is about 150 online and should not require any modification to your car (direct bolt on). this thread talks about it (see below). If you do order it it probably wont be listed for the Speed3 but Mazda3 should work. I have this hitch on my Speed3 and as the OP said its the one i would recommend.

I have the same hitch but use the four bike Northshore Rack (www.northshorerack.com). It works great, my only gripe is that it is only a 1.25 inch mount. I would prefer it be a 2 inch. Set up works great.

Any issues with the hitch or the bikes scraping the ground? I am looking to go this route and that would be my only worry at this point

not the bikes, but some times the hitch on a street bumps, BTW my car is on a H&R springs, like 1.25 in drop...

Here's my contribution. Same set up and it's definitely the way to go. By the way i ride a 29er and it doesn't stick out on either side although it will drive your BSM crazy but of course you can just shut it off.

Nice set up Op!

mionky 09-06-2012 07:36 PM

Yes I tried the rooftop setup and found out I couldn't park in any parking garages. I now have a curt hitch and it is much better. Unless of course you need to get in your hatch. And I also found out it drives the bsm crazy.

I just bought the hidden hitch bc every one says it sticks out the least. I had one on my 2006 mz3.
Thought about a roof rack, but these are way cheaper, less likely to be stolen, and don't fuck up your mpgs.
Can't wait to install it.
By the way. What does BSM mean? Nvm bllind spot monitoring.

Good work on the hidden hitch, ftmfw!
But shoulda got the T2... nothing touching the frames to scuff shit up!!

Sorry to rehash an old thread... anyone have a good rec for a carrier for a tri bike? I'm deciding on roof or hitch too, but my decision may depend on which attachment works best.
