Key copy?

I somehow managed to lose my only copy of my key for my car and need to know if theres a cheaper way to make a copy without going to the dealership.

Just be happy its not a key for the tech package with the pushstart.... Ask me how I know.

can't you buy a blank on Ebay have it cut and then program it yourself? should be significantly cheaper than getting the FOB from the stealership. Never done it this way though.

pretty sure you would have to DONATE to get the shop manuals for programming codes.

Port90 01-04-2012 05:23 PM

I thought you needed one of your keys to program it? I'll donate but I just need to know if buying the blank ebay key would work.

I believe you actually need 2 keys to program your own

He is right actually. I am glad i still have both mine. Im ordering one of those ebay keys pronto... fuckn Mazda.

Ace hardware made a copy for me... if you have a key that still works, they can use that to get the radio chip thing and then actually copy the key.

I think it was still around $50

How do you know? lol

But honestly what did that run you? I have tech and luckily I have both key fobs but I'm curious still...

Sid3wayS 01-05-2012 10:24 PM

I believe it was $115 for the fob and another $30 to program it. I hate stealerships.

Oh that's actually not that bad believe it or not. I had a Saab before and it was like $250 or so for a key not including programming. Which definitely bumped the total to over $300. Luckily I never had to get one of those either...

tapa talked

This is true for many cars. I believe the logic is so you can't valet your car (or something similar) and they can go get a copy made.

The dealer can make it happen with zero keys, but you have to have more documentation to prove ownership and the cost is higher.

I get a 3rd key rolled into the cost of the new car with all my auto purchases.

Rich990 01-10-2012 03:43 AM

I got the push to start setup in my MPS with the advanced key.

my spare wasnt working from when i bought the car (it was used), Mazda warrantied me a new key.

R5500 worth (thats around $670)

Warranty ftw
