A little HELP!! ok guys im just asking for a little help here. my issue is i am having major afterfire. so here how it started. i switched my stock bpv for a hks (fully recirculating) and all seemed well. i then installed my dp and removed my resonator, flashed stage 2, and it started to afterfire after every damn shift. i tried to deal but it got to be too much. i switched out back to stock and the afterfire seemed to get much better. it was still there but not every damn shift like before. i then sold my brand new hks for cheap and bought a cobb xle bpv from another member. guess what? back to the afterfire. i dont get it. i read and read and thought it was just the hks causing the issue but i guess not. it was worse with the hks i believe but it's pretty bad with this cobb. now i see alot of guys running both those valves and most just say they get a pop once in awhile but not every shift. watched my afr's and they for a split second drop to as low as high 10's/ or 11's ( at least 12's) with regular spirited driving. if i accelerate slow, and dont get out of vacum it usually wont pop but any boost and "POP"!! i checked connections and all seem fine and i hold boost just fine as well. switched from the stock cause i will be upping the boost to around 20 psi soon and didnt want to worry about any leakage, and from logs noticed the aftermarket seemed to hold boost a little better above 17psi. so WTF??? i know alot of you guys run these valves and am i the only one having this issue? oh and just fyi, it doesnt do it at wot. even between shifts at wot it may drop to the 9's but usually doesnt pop. any help would be appreciated. oh and one more thing. im getting a dizzytune once my fmic and cp-e mani come in and wonder, will a custom tune fix this issue if there doesnt seem to be any other signs of something wrong? @Bucker @phate |
check the hoses, there might be a ripped one. also post some logs or perhaps videos |

take the SRI, and tip and check everything thouroughly |
Sounds like a leak somewhere. Do you have logs? |
You run rich between shifts. Big deal, just pull fuel between shifts and bing! No more afterfire. |

the oil might just be some drippage from a sloppy oil change.. i wouldn't worry about that just now. |
What exactly does oil have to do with an afterfire? It's a fueling issue. |
Dont know if this was covered but have you adjusted your BPV/BOV/valve?? Little adjustments at a time... find what setting produces the least amount of after fire... I was getting crazy afterfires also with my TS BPV even set to full rec. Just gotta give it some playing with and 1/4-1/2 turns in either direction |
Ive got the hks and running it for well over 10k miles. I kno I had a hard time with that recirq hose and the flange from hks, i wouldnt be surprised if u pulled it off the tip a bit. A leak there would explain all your issues. Including the oil from excessive blow by. |

anyways i feel kinda stupid now and guess my car wants to make me out a lier. so i took my sri and return hose off and inspected everything while i was doing it. all hoses looked good and connections looked good. i then hooked it all back up and also turned the return hose around to better clear the sri ( using stock hose). started up car and went for a drive..... not a single damn afterfire. tried wot, partial throttle, and some spirited driving and nothing. im guessing something was lose somewhere, or maybe the return hose was bending, idk. it seems to be fine now. now i'm still a little curious about the oil on top of the tranny but guess ill just clean it off and see i get anymore. if so then i'll worry more about it. thanks anyways guys for the advice and input, i appreciate it. |
Good job for figuring it out for yourself dude! Must've been a loose fitting around the MAF that fucked your fueling. Keep an eye on the oil on the tranny, cause that could lead to future issues down the road |
must have been a loose clamp on the hose some where. good job |
@davinspeed3 Congrats on the fix! Is this the "oil" under your SRI building up around the shifter assembly? If so it is gear oil from the transmission that is making its way past the seal. I used to get this after spirited driving in my 07 MS3. Just make sure it is secure. |

What the hell could leak oil all the way up there? Was thinking maybe the fan blew it up but I don't see any on the skid plate below. And just FYI I didn't smell any gas in it. |
Check the clutch line maybe? That is the only other thing I think it could be! Looks too dark though.... |
Please name threads accordingly in the future. The search function on this forum isn't the greatest but naming threads things like "HEELP MEH!" or "ZOMG SOMETHING HAPPENED" make it absolutely worthless. |

check your oil level. looks like freshly leaked motor oil from the pic. Shine a flashlight on the area below your fuel pump to be sure you don't have a bad oil seal on the pump. |

Pop the hood while the engine is running, then visually inspect for leaks. It may require the vacuum the engine produces to actually leak the oil, so warm up the car, then go to town with a flash light. If you can as well, clean the area so you have a fresh canvas to work with to pin point where it's leaking from. |

Let us know how it goes! |
I post from my phone normally. Tapashit doesn't show descriptions. No need to go all internet superhero. Good luck with your problem though. |
1 Attachment(s) alright @Bob-o @bigriver @IDRVSLO found the cause of my oil leakage. after cleaning everything i started the car and let it run, watched around the hpfp as oil started seping out from the side, FML.. took the pump apart and found the o-ring is shot. can i just go get one from a hardeware store or do i have to order one? |
Order one from dealer for like $10. Shit, too bad you are in FL. I have that o-ring because I bought a spare just in case I fucked up the install of the pump. On reinstall torque bolts evenly and slowly so pump goes in straight. Also put light coat of oil on oring to help it slide in. |

I broke the same o-ring on my install, called 4 dealers around here, nobody has it in stock. I bought a o-ring from autoparts (different size and works well for a few days till the new one arrives. Try to not give your vin number even your name at the dealer, they'll keep your info on the system, just in case for the warranty. I noticed same oil leaking, for sure is from the fuel pump, you'll see. Good luck. |
Good find! I am glad you figured it out! |
Glad you found it. Grats. Wasn't tryin to be a dickhead earlier BTW. |
