Long-ish term storage Looking for suggestions on storage for my MS3. It will be sitting for 6-12 months, and I figure I should do some stuff to prep it. The car is garaged. I run it on an e85/gas mix. It is driven ~1x per month currently, so it sits around all the time. I wont be driving it for 6-12 months though, so I want to prep it. I know to do the following: * Wash and Wax * Unhook Battery * Cover/ block exhaust * Change Oil upon return Any other suggestions? |
Ethanol is corrosive |
Put the car on jack stands otherwise the tires will develop flat spots. |
Run your gas tank till its empty. The ethanol and gas will eventually separate. Could have a hole in your gas tank when you get back. |
Run the ethanol out and fill with regular gas. You want a full tank. Put is some fuel stabilizer before you fill the tank. I would also pull the spark plugs and spray some oil into the cylinders. If you remove the battery don't set it on concrete the residual acid on the case will eat away the concrete put a board under it. I would also get a trickle or maintenance charger for the battery. Get a couple of containers of damp rid to put in the cabin it will remove any moisture that accumulates while it sits |
fuel stabilizer in plain gas. leave the vents on to let air circulate. also throw some bounce fabric softner sheets in the hatch to knock out the stale smell |
I was going to tell you it's just like winterizing a boat. But you bastards that far south don't have to worry about |
Read the owners manual... It tells you how to store it |

Hey Buck, your owners manual might actually include e85 and N20, lololol That guy's a genius! I deploy pretty often and everything you put is what I do as well, I also put it up on jacks and make sure no e is left in the tank, other than that you should be good. I might see you over der, we can have some chai. (gross) |

The last couple times around, I had my wife drive my car every couple of weeks, but she pretty much refuses to do that with the MS3... Wonder why. Stay in touch, maybe we can figure something out. Thanks everyone. |
