MAF bad at 12,000 Miles

Well the CEL came on this week and of course I run the code and find a Too Lean code. I check everything and all is tight and no leaks. Car starts to idle rough, then seems to clean up again and light goes off. I drive it a few miles and once again light comes on. Figured it had to be a loose vacuum line...so I start looking again and clamp everything down once again. No luck..CEL goes on for a few miles, shuts off, then stays on for good. I call up dealer and dealer took a full day to narrow it down to a faulty MAF and of course since I'm in Hawaii there are none in stock. Looks like the Speed is parked until after the long weekend.

Had to share since my wife doesn't really care. Ha Ha

thanks for reading my bitch session

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely try!

Are the MAF Sensor notorious for failing/getting dirty or just our ECU being finicky with the inputs from the sensor?

It's recommended to clean the MAF sensor every time you change the air filter. There's a lot of air passing through the intake. It's good idea to get an OCC (oil catch can)>

I had similar problems. After cleaning the maf sensor I was back to normal. The can says to let it dry for 10 min (or something similar). I would suggest waiting an hour or two just in case. I let mine dry for a few minutes past the recommended time and my car drove like shit and I thought i fucked up the sensor. So I re cleaned it and let it dry for a long time and voila.

Yah...it was running like pure crap....I'll do the clean next time. Dealer replacing this time.....Warranty seems to be holding up so far.

It is amazing how the fuel trims get so out of wack...

I chaulk this up to a faulty part and bad luck. 64,000 miles on my 2010, cleaned my MAF maybe 2 times, just cause and I have never had an issue! Warranty FTW!
