MS3 Gen 2 Exhaust Question Hello I am still kind of a newb when it comes to exhaust so bear with me. I have a 2012 mazda speed 3 gen 2 and recently had a custom 3 inch cat back exhaust installed. I have a muffler delete in the rear and magna flow muffler in the mid area. The exhaust sounds good and definitely has great flow. But WOT the exhaust sound gets a little airy (magna flow to long rear pipes). I want more of a raw grumble tone to the car. I am switching the test pipe out. But I am curious if anyone has ran straight pipe from the cat back and just added resonators in the rear. I know the CPE triton exhaust is kind of built that way. But i haven't seen any custom builds like this. |
I was going to search for a clip of straight pipe but fuck it. Wrong section and in how to's ? Like wtf? Are you paying any attention at all or just posting shit in the first subforum you opened? |
My bad first day on the forum. But thanks for the warm welcoming. |
My brother ran the Ultimate Racing 3" turboback with no cat in DP or midpipe, no resonators and only the 2 highflow mufflers on his 2013 Pu and it sounded the best imo (out of the Pu off the shelf CBE kits) until you let off above 6k RPM. Straight pipe sounds like straight diesel truck ass on stock log manifold k04 cars imo. Material of the exhaust also matters, try sticking with 3" stainless steel and mandrel bends are definitely a must for best flow. If you're not gonna do it right, don't do it at all. |
Wait until you add the racepipe. The sound is definately going to change. Maybe you will get lucky and get the rice you are trying to achieve. Hope you have an AP and internals. |
Yeah I have an AP and internals it was the first things I bought. Alright ill wait and see. If not I'm just going to cut the magnaflow out of the mid section and go straight pipe. Im just worried about drone if I do so. Thats why I was curious if I add resonators(not mufflers) to the back closer to the tips if it would at least cut down the sound of the straight pipe a little. Im fine with being loud I just don't want to be screaming loud with a 3 inch straight pipe. The reason I'm saying add resonators is I already did a muffler delete in the back and its just too airy. Im hoping putting two small resonators will cut the airy sound out WOT. |
Vibrant resonator (if it can fit in gen2 tunnel) should do the trick. Is this a 3" straight through setup or Mexi-shop special using original CBE? |
If you want the growl, get a test pipe or a long DP. |
The CP-e triton is one awesome sounding exhaust. I have a catless UR which I love, and its loud, but the CP-e has a very nice tone. Not nearly as loud, but very aggressive. I've contemplated switching it up, but that's def too much work for me to bother with over sound when my car already sounds great. lol |
This is the cobb exhaust that I have on mine. It is 3" and a resonator in the mid section and 2 after the rear axle. |
All the money you probably have spent on "custom" exhaust and labor you could have just purchased a DP or a CBE from a vendor on here. What are your goals with the exhaust? Are you just looking for best sound or are you looking for best flowing? |
