So thanks to this forum I now know that I can cruise and floor it from 45mph in 6th gear and it's bad on your e-brake if you push the button as you pull the e-brake up. Thanks MSF!

Gearing is different in gen 1 and 2 so not exactly the same. Regardless I think the best way to tell is to just drive the car and get used to it. Beats reading a manual.

2-5 are different on the Gen2 so in that sense you're wrong, in regards to 6th gear (and the point of this thread) however yes you're right.

Also, I think I read this is OPs first stick shift so that means he drove an automatic scooby.

Just don't shift to 6th gear until 130mph and then you'll definitely be fine.

Look, if it bothers you people too much (and withold the "what do you mean by YOU PEOPLE" picture please) then get an AP and free copy of ATR and set your own goddamn boost limits. I had mine jacked the fock up but then I realized why? So now I target (AND HIT YAY!) 12psi at 2,500 and 16psi at 3,000, and 19psi at 3,500 so I don't have to worry about these bullshit questions. I just floor it in any gear and let the computer sort the shit out.

Tune: My own (based on the v210 and v231 Cobb OTS maps but ramped way up)

Street creds:
- Fastest known K04/93 MS3/driver with only an AP, CDFP upgrade, intake, and tune | 13.37@106.83mph on stock Dunlops (2.04 sec 60' time, full curb weight, 75*F ambient temp)
- Has gone an indicated 146mph on three occasions now.

Yes I will help you tune your K04/pump gas car; I have much less experience than the major players but I also charge you $0 and can turn you around quickly. 4 satisfied customers and counting...

I'm not reading all the replies, but on a GenJuan the speed in 6th on stock tires at 1000 RPM is 26.7 MPH. At 700 RPM (stock idle if I remember correctly) its 18.7 MPH.

6th gear? About 30mph. The turbo really pulls below 3k rpm.

And your 1st mods should be downpipe and manual boost controller. These cars love that.

Bashing aside who the fuck cruises in 6th gear at 45mph? what the fuck is that? 45mph is still 4th gear territory if you wants teh POWAHZZ!!!!!

I shift into 6th once I'm done accelerating up to highways speed b/c NEEDS MOAR BOOST otherwise.

Wow, can't believe I just gave a serious answer to this.

BTW, don't forget to change your blinker fluid, VERY important in genPU

There's a reverse in your car?
I have a setting labeled "R" on my gears changer stick
Have not had the balls to put it in rocket mode yet though
keithkamaris likes this.

That manual looks jacked. I shift into 5th at 50 mph minimum and 60 at 60 minimum. I can't imagine cruising at 45 in 6th.

^^ This... basically I worry more about dropping below 2k rpms than I worry about boost. I think at part throttle as long as you are > 2k rpms then that is best. That equates to I believe 40mph in 5th and 50mph in 6th. Sounds about right.

Oh, and the top speed for reverse? I was thinking it would be limited by launch control lol. So if I have my LC value set to 3,000 rpms, I bet it would stop me at 3,000 rpms in reverse since I'd never hit the LC/FFS threshold values (6.21mph is stock I think; I don't think NEGATIVE number count lol).

40 if you are on a level, flat road, drawing no boost at all and very, very light throttle. I drive mine easy and use 6th a lot and my result is 29 MPG combined. When you want to accelerate hard and use boost, drop a gear or two to get it to 3K minimum before you punch it.

Just spend enough time on Youtube, I'm sure you'll find SOMETHING like that ending in a bunch of guys standing around looking at a disabled car wondering why it won't move or why its smoking.

Besides simple boost tartgetting, you can adjust the Throttle Requested Load tables and/or the Boost Compensation by Gear tables and/or APP tables in ATR; enen if you hae the "Use Boost Targetting" method checked in the options. The lower of the two method's calculated torque is honored.

let's say you target 16psi at 2,500rpms in 6th gear. This is fine except for maybe 5th and 6th gears. Well, you can apply a boost comp factor at specific rpms (Boost compensation by gear), you can lower the calculated load in the TRL-X tables (Throttle Request Load tables) for that gear and rpm range (you'll have to know the calculated load you want to run since this is a load table, not a boost table), you could play with the Throttle tables (APP Translation for example in 6th gear tops out at 30% ACTUAL pedal position even if you floor it. but these APP tables are not rpm or load specific so they would hurt your top speed runs).

If it's any comfort to you the factory commands 15psi at 2,500rpms in the stock map. MAybe @rinkle2 can check a stock map's trl-x, and boost comp tables for 5th and 6th gears to see if they are throttled back (by load or by psi) in the low rpm range.

Regardless there's at least three ways you can guarantee you won't run too much boost at too low of an rpm. My latest map targets 14psi at 2,500rpms and then 20psi at 3,000rpms. Pretty much by 3,000 rpms you can let it rip and give it all its got. Now the top end of the rev range on these cars is a different story

You're right. This is a discussion forum. It's about cars. It's about the car you have. And you have a question about it. Ideally, those who don't wish to answer your question will go about their business, and those who do will come help. There was only one flaw in your plan: this place is haunted by a large contingent of heckling fucktards whose natural habitat is the junior high school locker room or (in the summers) mom's basement. Fortunately there are decent folk here as well, and they helped.

Enjoy the speed!

45 MPH in 6th is fine. In my normal driving, I'm always shifting to the highest gear possible while cruising and I'll use 6th as early as 40 MPH if I'm on a level road at a steady pace, being very light on the throttle. If I have to pass or if I feel like accelerating rapidly for no reason which is what the MS3 was built to do, I downshift. Keep in mind, speeds as low as 35 are borderline bog territory so I'd keep it in the lower gears until at least 40.

Do NOT go WOT below 3K RPM in 6th gear, by the way. Never.

EDIT: I tried 35 MPH in 6th during my lunch break and even that was fine. Of course, at that low of a speed and with that high of a gear, if you're preparing to pass, downshift.

Sorry dude but if you're even considering driving your MS3 in 6th gear at 45 mph, you bought the wrong car. Why you would want to bog a high performance car down like that baffles me. I don't shift into 5th unless I'm doing 50 mph and hit 6th gear after 65-70 mph. I also have a '12 MS3 and what I most enjoy about it is the acceleration I feel and hearing the sweet note I get from the exhaust while shifting gears at a higher, yet mechanically safe zone than where you're coming from. Enjoy the MS3 like it was built to be enjoyed.

Open your door, on the sticker where the tire pressure's are there should be minimum speeds per gear....
