Monitor Water Temperature and other Paramaters Hello, Just took delivery on a 2012 Speed3. Interesting that it was about $300 less than I expected to pay. However without the tech package it did NOT have the Bose stereo. It seems that after the earthquake Mazda was in a rush to get some 2012 Speed3 into the pipeline but they did not have the Bose system ready yet. You can tell which of the 2012 non-tech packages have the NON-BOSE because the window sticker has an "R" in it and an MSRP of $23,700 instead of $24,000. That is fine with me as I was happy to save the money. I have heard many complaints about the Bose system. That included the sales person who sold me the car. I have also installed a "ScanGauge II Ultra Compact 3-in-1 Automotive Computer with Customizable Real-Time Fuel Economy Digital Gauges" . This is available on Amazon at It provides real-time info from the ODBII Port. It will show four parameters at a time and includes water temperature, Air inlet temperature and MAP reading. I will try and post some pics of the install tomorrow. My last car was a Neon SRT-4 and as it got older the temperature started to occasionally go a bit to high. I would never have seen that with the idiot lights on the MS3. The fix was a simple change out of the thermostat. By the way, the SRT-4 is available if any-one is interested. If any-one else has installed the Scan Gauge, there are some custom routines that can be programmed. This is partly trial and error. Has any-one here taken advantage of some of the custom routines? Some include monitoring the output of the Oxygen sensors and fuel pressure. I got the car on New Years Eve and have about 550 miles on it already. I got the snow tires (16 inch steelies with 205/50-16 General Altimax studded) from Town Fair Tire. Can't wait to play in the snow and see how the Traction Control and Limited Slip work. "oh" it is liquid silver in color. Thanks -Scott |
We knew about the "r's" being cheaper. Now we know definitively why. |
I have the scangauge but its pretty useless now. I'm going to pull it out and put my ashtray back in. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...zda/photo6.jpg Read the instructions on creating x-gauges on the scangauge site. |
Thats an interesting alternative to the DH. Also what complaints are there about the BOSE system? I love mine |
Ultragauge FTW |
go big turbo, should fix your problem. |

Also what did you make that mount out of? Want to send it my way when you put your ash tray back in? |
Realy? Mine is a 2010 tech and it aint no kicker comp but I think it has a decent lil thump to it. @bigriver you have an ashtray there? Mine is just a pocket with a 12v port |
@bigriver I knew what you meant by ashtray |
@ahfunaki - I have an AP and DashCommand app on my phone so I don't really use the SG. Plust the SG I have cannot monitor fuel rail pressure. The mount is just a piece of felt over a plastic cutout that was glued to the back of the face piece. Nothing fancy but looks good. But I don't use the SG anymore. @Sid3wayS - hahah, I'm an old guy so I still call that space an ashtray. but you are correct, its just the pocket with 12v plug. @SamInAustinTX - Thanks! |

IDK, my non-tech and non-bose 2011 hits pretty decent with all the dubstep and progressive house music I listen to... |
Damn I got all excited for nothing. |
I have a 2012 non tech that has a Bose system, guess I got lucky as I love it! |
I found the non bose to be ok until about half volume. |
Meh, I've never been too much of an audiophile. I love my music, and it has to sound decent as far as output quality, but I can't discern a 320kbps CD rip vs. the actual CD, or FLAC vs. compressed audio, etc. I love my Bose in my tech package (might be brand name association), but if I had a non-Bose setup, I'm sure I would still like it. Anyways, if you own an Android phone, I'm gonna recommend the PLX Kiwi Bluetooth OBD-II scantool, along with the Torque app. It turns your phone into a scantool capable of showing/clearing DTCs, and reading the basic PIDs from the ECU (extended PIDs like BATs and KR are not available to us Genpu guys yet). |

If I want to listen to music I go to the living room and turn on the sound system (David Hafler 220 w/full calibrated equalization, Infinity speakers etc. ) The reason for a high performance car like the MS3 is to drive and enjoy the ride. Sure I like to have music available. I have an 8 hour drive to Washington DC this weekend and it is nice to have some tunes and traffic reports, but a car is not anyplace close to an ideal listening environment so why spend an arm and a leg to have a system that can reproduce every note of which you cannot hear half of them. I do want a system that is able to be loud enough to listen to without distortion. By the way, the two people I spoke with about the BOSE said the bass was ok but the highs sounded flat. Also, the expression riding shotgun came about from the passenger in the car taking out the idiot with the car stereo next to them, who insisted on the entire city block listen to them playing Achy-Break y-Heart!!! |
Uhh...cause cruisin in the speed3 with some beats and a J is the shit? |
Ultra Gauge. |
I have a 2012 MS3 with tech and the Bose and compared to the Bose in my wife's 08 CX9 it is not even a comparison. The CX9 system blows the MS3 system away. But like others have posted I do not crank it up because the sound of the engine throughout the rpm range is music in itself even with stock exhaust. |

Do any of these gauges monitor KR... cause if not they they are useless in my mind. |
"No highs, no lows....must be Bose!" |
How do you get egt without a temp sensor? Quote:

Looks like its polling at the cat, that would have to be O2? I've got a spot IR that's good in the range for checking exhaust, next time I've got time to play ill check reported versus read readings from the IR |
Lol. Cat temperature is NOT exhaust gas temperature. I have cat temp on my dashhawk. Thanks for playing. |

The gauge is $150 and still unable to tell you one of the most important things to monitor. Dashhawk or Aeroforce Interceptor are some of the only OBD2 based gauges that can tell you knock retard. Don't waste you money on anything else. The Dashhawk can also datalog, and the Interceptor fits in a standard 52mm round gauge pod. |
