My first manual :) Hey guys what's up? I got my mazdaspeed 3 today even though I have had this account for a few months now lol. Anyways I've killed it a few times, but then again, I am having a lot of smooth shifts as well because I have driven a jeep wrangler before. I mix up 3rd and 1st alot though. Is that normal? And I decided after driving like a grandma all day, to give it some power. I ended up getting overwhelmed by the torque steer and missed 2nd gear so it redlined. I learned my lesson to take it easy until I get used to it. (btw all of this was done on a back road) anyone else have these sorts of problems with their first manual? I love this car so much, and very happy with the purchase, just the power really surprised me at first. I'm also a little shaken up after that. About how long until I fully get the hang of shifting? Thanks guys :D |
no, donate |
it'll be my first manual! Once i actually get the fricken thing! |
If you are killing it rev it to 4K rpm then sidestep the clutch. It won't die! |
Nigga my shit my shit was my first manual and I fucked up a good amount of time but you get used to that shit..... Oh and donate if you plan on staying here there's some good info on here |
get used to it first, then go WOT |

You guys should trade your shit in for a prius:joke: |
just remember...1st= left and up, 3rd = up slightly right, 5th=far right up.....youll get use to it, just practice... DONATE, that'll be your saving grace here! enjoy...Speed is your friend! |
op, dont be going WOT on this car until you know how to drive it. torque steer will catch you off guard and could be dangerous if you dont know what you are doing. dont be stupid and donate asap going from 2nd to 3rd is easy. all you have to do is move the stick up, and it will slide right into 3rd. if it feels tough to get in, that means your in 1st. nice and easy |
Better donate b4 lenny reads this thread and burns your ass. You seriously can't find the gears? Are you driving sober........shouldh've bought a honda and put neon lights under it. Enjoy your education.:tool: |
Make sure to put it in 1st and e-brake up when parked. |
wtf is this shit??? and why do I have to keep saying it? welcome, donate, search, enjoy, post pics of car, post noodz of wife/gf or mom from the sound of it |
The fuel goes in the passenger side |
subbed for "oh shit I crashed my car" |

just be careful OP... accidentally starting in 3rd is ok but but shifting at redline into 1st instead of 3rd is no bueno... welcome and take it slow |

Listen to people here, learn to drive before you give it gas or else you won't have to learn anymore. Give it a week and you should figure it all out, a month and you'll have everything down smooth all the time. |

alright guys I'll donate tomorrow for sure. I'm gonna go to bed soon :P but how bad was it for me to shift it into 1st? It pretty much redlined, and I freaked out and thought I hurt my engine :( but yeah, I'm taking it slow for now on. Like I said I learned my lesson :) |
there's a reason a car has a rev limiter |
K i will post pics of it tomorrow, and i'll donate as well. This is my first brand new car and I'm just pretty excited. Sorry for the stupid questions, just trying to take the best care of it as I can. Never owned a sports car... |
Break it. Fix it. Repeat. |

well it doesn't necessarily have to be back into 1st... could be 3rd instead of 5th... adrenalin is a damn powerful drug! Quote:
its all a learning process! you will be fine |
"I am having a lot of smooth shifts as well because I have driven a jeep wrangler before." :wtf1: "anyone else have these sorts of problems with their first manual?" I thought it was your first manual ???? I mix up 3rd and 1st alot though. Is that normal? :loser: No its not normal, fuck ive never done it! :drive: Seriously, no props whatsoever from me for your lack to attain even a minute amount of mediocrity in this theatre we call driving. |
obvious troll is obvious. |
Does it slightly worry anyone else when someone says "I'm a dumb fuck and don't know anything at all about driving......but don't worry, I'll BE OK ONCE I GET ON THE FUCKING FREEWAY)?????? |

i'm amazed at how one mixes up 1st and 3rd |
Mixing up first and third literally sounds impossible. Mine won't even let me into first at more than like a rolling speed... I have gone 4-3 instead of 4-5 once before, but 2-1...never. Oh, this is also my first manual. Ever. |
My first manual as well, but have driven a couple before... I've missed shifts by not getting it all the way in or letting the clutch out too soon, but never placed in the wrong gear... Third and fourth are the easiest gears to get into, just slide it forward or back... OPs problem prolly is he has a death grip on the shifter. keep ur hand on top of the shifter, not grabbing by the side... To go from second to third, just slide the shifter up with ur palm, don't even force it, all ur doing is causing excess wear on it... |
Dont use the clutch... |
First manual? This is a hard car to learn on man so don't feel bad, unusual clutch engagement, 3rd gear is hard (at least driving hard without a motor mount). Just take it slow. And don't admit the mistakes you've made any more. Just makes you an easy target. |
I wish my Cx-7 was manual, and I've never driven stick before either. I'd probably put a cheat plate on the thing, like how the old Corvette used to be. No shift boot and no guess work where the shifter goes, just move it into the next gate |
What-The-Fuck am i reading this for. OP dont listen to these guys, flat foot it. |
