My Mom/Dad/Wife/Sister/Friend Drove My Car And Here's What Happened

Share your stories (funny, sad, disastrous, whatever) of any time you let someone else drive your speed! (Gen1 and MS6 owners, feel free to contribute).

My dad (68 years old) took my MS3 out today for errands since his car has no gas and Sandy has wreaked havoc on gas stations everywhere. He owned a GTO in the 60s and a VW GTI MkII in the 80s so he's not unfamiliar with sporty cars. He came back and we had the following conversation:

ME: So, how do you like the car?
HIM: Well. First gear is useless.
ME: I know, it's a complaint I've had since day 1.
HIM: The ride is a bit stiff.
ME: Sports suspension, what do you expect? So you hate it?
HIM: Well. I did pass a lot of people. Going really fast. I may have wasted a lot of your gas. If you want to start using my car more often, I'll look after yours.
ME: HAHAHAHA. I knew you'd like it!

Then, a few hours later, he came into my room and said, "OH, I forgot to tell you, there's something wrong with your car, I think. Every time you accelerate hard in second gear it yanks to the right. It's dangerous. You're sure your alignment is good??"

I laughed and explained torque steer. I guess he could be a magazine reviewer since he harped on it!

My girlfriend was learning stick-shift on my old car, and I haven't been willing to let her behind the wheel of the MS3 just yet. This weekend may change that as she might need my car to go babysit since hers has no gas. We'll see.

My mom hasn't driven my Speed yet, thank God. She'll either crash it, or never give it back.

No one in my family touches my car.

Reason being if one of them blows it up, I'll never hear the end of "you should have never put those parts on your car, blah blah blah turbocharged cars are bad all they do is blow up"

And they will never pay for it if it does.

Stangcobra 11-02-2012 01:26 PM

Ready for this great story?
Mom: never drove the car
Dad: never drove the car
sister/brother/uncle/bestfriend/girlfriend:never drove the car
anyone who isnt me: will never drive the car

Don't know how you can just hand your keys over and expect a family member to understand to not boost in 5th gear or to know that everything is running right, fuck that.

My dad drove my car from VA to NY to store it while I was deployed.....now he calls it the Mach5!

exentix 11-02-2012 01:47 PM

My dad gave me shit when I was still learning stick on mine. Bone stock, let him drive it. I told him its quick and he didn't wanna believe me. Smiled the whole time, referred to it as "deceivingly fast" hasn't drove it since its tuned, but I took him for a ride. Holy shit was his response lol.

My pap, stepdad, and mom drove it too. If I know they can drive stick ill let them drive it while I'm in the car.

Vader 11-02-2012 01:48 PM

No one but me, drives the speed.

breakfstincluded 11-02-2012 01:55 PM

My girlfriend likes the clutch in the MS3 a lot more than the other car I tried to teach her stick on, a Scion xB.

Fuckin regular clutches just feel like a 10 mile journey to push in after driving the MS3.

freshe5b 11-02-2012 02:06 PM

I taught my wife's brother how to drive stick on my MS3. He stalled it alot. Took at 180 degree turn at about 40, engaged the clutch to try and slow down and never took foot off gas pedal. Not too concerned. I owned a seriously worked Cummins before the MS3, performance and replacement parts for the MS3 price wise are a dick fart into the wind compared to the Cummins.

I let a fellow MSF member drive my car once.

That wont be happening again.

My advice to him after the drive was: Sell your speed and look into public transportation.

He hasn't been around since.

Mom, Dad, GF, or any other family, they can ride in it. I drive. End of story.

Nice... what happened?

Vansquish 11-02-2012 02:27 PM

My dad, mom, brother, and ex have all driven my car. They're all old-hands at driving stick, so I wasn't worried about the clutch, as they learned its uptake pretty quickly.

I used to drive about 800 miles each weekend, so my dad would swap cars with me since his was a lease with unlimited mileage and free repairs (through Ford). The first weekend we pulled this swap was shortly after I had installed my SRI and began tuning for it. When I got back, I asked him what he thought. "Well, it certainly makes some more interesting noises now, but it feels faster. Don't worry, I limit myself to one WOT run up through 3rd or maybe part of 4th each weekend."

My mom enjoyed it, for the most part, but she's so short (5'2" that she had trouble seeing out of the back of the car).

My brother...well...I think he's still kicking himself for getting an Impreza (no, not the STI or the WRX), instead of an MS3 or MS6. He's got a bit of a lead foot in my car, but I don't mind.

The ex always almost went through the windshield the first time she'd touch the brakes. Her '00 Mercury Cougar's were terrible by comparison.

Nothing. I stopped him before he could do any damage.

It was apparent from the start, this guy couldn't drive and had no business in a car like this.

I'm still ashamed I let him start the damn thing.

This was years ago, he's long gone.

Sines 11-02-2012 02:34 PM

I only let my dad drive my car. He's a mechanic and knows how to drive.

His response after the first time driving it was "that's a quick little fucking car".

silvapain 11-02-2012 02:37 PM

My dad drove my car once and bitched that it bogged down really bad in 1st gear all the time. I explained to him he was starting in 3rd.

Dano 11-02-2012 02:51 PM

word...my dad toasted my clutch with repeated attempts to head up the street which is a fairly steep hill, in mine while in 3rd gear. hes driven a stick all his life but managed to totally take 15-20K miles off the clutch in about 15 minutes. Smelled like baby shit burnt clutch for a week after.. Had to replace it at 30K miles...he did the damage @ around 15k...lol

needless to say when my wife asks me to teach her to drive a stick in my car i LOL...very much....she is not amused one bit.

bvbull200 11-02-2012 02:53 PM

I bought my MS3 sight unseen. Well, except for a few internet photos. My dad was local to it, however, so I had him go give it a look and take it for a drive. He gave it the thumbs up, and, when it comes to cars, his opinion is every bit as valid to me as my own.

Wife has driven it since as well. I taught her on the GTO and now she drives a Chevy Cruze with a stick. Being pregnant, she'll be getting plenty of seat time as the DD ;)

If anyone ever asks me to take my car for a spin, I don't object, provided they are competent enough to drive a stick. Same went with the GTO. I taught a few people the basics in that car. I have always loved my cars and take care of them, but no harm in sharing the experience.

865ms3 11-02-2012 02:54 PM

i let my dad drive the car the 2nd day i had it. i was in the car. it resulted in a 1st-3rd burn out from a red light next to a mustang gt...

the 2nd time i let him drive it i had just finished up my e85 freektune. i had to borrow his truck. i got a phone call asking "why does your car sound like a bull whip cracking every time i let off the gas" followed by "3rd gear spins and tries to pull you in the ditch". :eek2:

I havent let him drive it since.

I'm the same way, hell I've let me friends autox my car once he proved to me he was able to drive stick correctly.

Voltron 11-02-2012 03:09 PM

Im sure everyone made sure not to go wot under 3k too.
Obviously your dad was out pushing your speed.
Only people I let drive my speed are a few nator members. Everyone else drives their own shit.

BlueStreak 11-02-2012 03:13 PM

- Girlfriend drives my car when I'm drunk. She hates driving it as I back seat drive her all the way to our destination.
- Mom drove it once. She has a bit of a lead foot but ironically dialed it back when she drove my car. Too scared to touch it anymore.
- Sister moved it on the driveway once. I think that's all she'll get.
- Dad drove it quite a few times. Told me its too damn fast and that I should sell it. Meanwhile, he has a 2010 Carrera 4S in the garage...
- Some car enthusiast friends have driven it; maybe 4. They have cars equally as "valuable" so they understand what it is to drive something like the Speed.

SarcasticOne 11-02-2012 03:31 PM

Mum and uncle drove it when was on stock turbo..

Mum loved it, uncle didn't...

Since 3071, my mechanic (who's putting 3071 on his blown 6) is only person other than me to have driven it... I'm expecting him to let me drive the 6 when it's done

There is 2-3 others I'll let drive, but until engine is built, am being picky :)

I'm the only one who drives my speed. My parents will move it out of the driveway if they need to leave, but that's about it. Took my dad for a drive after I first got it and kept repeating "Holy fuck, this thing is quick!". Haha.

boostdmazda3 11-02-2012 03:46 PM

i let my mom drive my car one time...shes used to driving a honda accord. She came back and said she was scared of the boost feeling.

Btw, this thread was a great idea IMO!

Keko 11-02-2012 04:34 PM

My family can't drive stick:haha:

I let one of my buddies drive it briefly. Other than that only Mazda tech has driven it a few times, which I don't like at all

Rmichel2 11-02-2012 04:34 PM

I couldn't drive the speed when I first bought it. I got a DWI, and my pops had to drive it about 45 miles so I could get my breathalyzer installed. Getting on the highway, he went WOT in 2nd.. Let's just say I had a feint wiff of shit when the steering wheel took on a mind of it's own. He hasn't driven it to this day.

I let a buddy of mine drive it one day about 5 miles, he's been in the car with me plenty of times and knows it has plenty of power. He didn't even attempt to go WOT.

I was feeling generous one day, and was willing to teach my GF how to drive. Let's just say I didn't let her get into first. The pain I felt as she was burning up the clutch in reverse was enough for me to drop kick her in the back of the face. While sitting.

Mother is scared of it, along with my sister.

PS- Getting AP, Catless DP, AT HPFP, SRI, and TIH, with RichTune within the next week. I want to see my dad's reaction then. :P'
Edit: Parts are already ordered. Awaiting install when I get off work Tuesday. :>

Stingray69 11-02-2012 04:54 PM

Wifey has driven my car twice, too much bourbon for me. One of the times we were on our way home she took a detour and got on the highway when we didn't need to. I said where we going she said on the highway this thing is fun. I told her it has six gears she said oh, stomped into it and hit sixth. I said we are going over 100 mph she said oh shit! That was when I realized her driving it alone wasn't going to happen.

speed3sb 11-02-2012 04:56 PM

my wife flat out said" i never ever want to drive your car....ever.." thats when i knew she was a keeper...

Constantin 11-02-2012 04:57 PM

When I just got the car I let one of my friends drive my MS3. He drives stick all his life, so he did good. But now non of my friends want to race me ;)

I would let my dad drive it, and he loves it!

My step dad thought the car is broken and very dangerous (he is know it all) - since then I fixed the torque steer issue ;)

After about two weeks of owning the car, my mom drove it! She was scared of it, BUT handled the clutch/gas better then I did (at the time)!

galens47 11-02-2012 04:58 PM

My pops drove it when she was stock. Had clutch issues, but once he figured out the grab. Holy shit this is fast.

Have let friends drive that know how to drive stick. I alway have to coach them on shifting too soon and then lugging.

Only one has gone wot and driven twisties. Only wot with coaching: ok now slow down. Shift into 2nd, let that car go away. Speed up until 3k, then floor it, shift accordinly. He nearly shit himself and was so adrenalin pumped he couldn't do more than one run.

I like letting friends drive affter each mod, that way the curious have a visceral understanding of what happened to it. If a friend totals it, gap is there. Would suck, but life happens.

I won't teach non clutch drivers on her. Not the right platform.

No way mom will drive, she is fucking scary in a slow car and is short. Step dad, maybe- he's usually too inhibited about what mom will think of him...lol

Brother again not a chance. He drives a stick, but has no clue and is dangerous.

Helped a future owner last weekend. He drove a juan had his heart set on a juan. When he saw my pu and drove it, he has changed his perspective.

I do not like them driving when I'm not in the car. That has only happened 1 time. Moving, driving the truck, friend drove the speed.

What about car inspections (may vary by state)? Can you refuse an inspector to drive your car, especially after you go BT?

Shit, I'd have the opposite response. My wife hasn't/wouldn't take my car without letting me know ahead of time (I have a mutual respect for her's, too), but a wife that is excited to drive a "fun" car with a stick is awesome. She drove the GTO quite a bit, often without me as a passenger. Seeing her on the road rip through the gears with the exhaust roaring through long-tube headers is one of the sexiest things ever.

It's less of an event in the MS3 and she's only driven it a couple of times (only had it a month or so), but that she enjoys it and can handle a quick car is absolutely awesome.

Zerocool 11-02-2012 05:22 PM

No one. Ever. LOL I learned my lesson when a friend drove my WRX and did more tire burning then I had ever done.

This thread has had me LOL'ing a ton.

anavrinIV 11-02-2012 05:43 PM

My mom moved it in the driveway when I was home for a night and almost ran it into the back of a jeep. I was a asleep...she doesn't want to drive it again.

I taught a friend to drive stick in it in a parking lot. Never gotten out of 3rd (maybe 4th) and barely used the gas. Lots of stalling though.

taught the girlfriend to drive stick in it too...she never left second and never wants to drive it.

Only other person to drive it was a friend from college with plenty of experience driving stick...I even let him get on it pretty good. Only reason I let him is that he let me take a spin in his 2012 camaro ss...worth it.

Why on earth wouldn't you boost in 5th gear assuming you were at the proper RPMs?

4th only takes you to about 100 and most people roll to 120 at least...

or am I missing your point?

mizboo102 11-02-2012 06:56 PM

I asked my mom to drive it once... she said she didn't know how to drive a 6 speed. She daily drives a 5 speed. We are working on her excuses

My dad I trust to drive it whenever, he has a speed6 @Masterofnone

Fiance drives it all the time... used to have one @socks

I went driving through the mountains with a few friends and traded on the way down with my friend who has an M3. We stopped at a gas station at the bottom and he gets out saying, that scares me and I can't figure out how to get the key out. A few years later he's at my house with a friend and we all leave but his silvia decided to disable itself so I tossed him the keys to the speed. Every time his friend sees me he talks about how much fun the speed is and how it spins through third.

speeed 11-02-2012 07:34 PM

Wife drove my car back home, around 20 miles, when I was drunk at 2am, btw, she never drove stick before and obviously never after....
she always complain about the noise or bouncing... but, kids love it.

Not sure what is done to his MINI S but don't be fooled by some of them. I have a 2006 MINI S that held its ground fairly well next to a slightly modded speed 6 on a 50 MPH roll in race (now the speed 6 is BT and the MINI doesn't have a chance). Of course the my mini is fully bolted and tuned, it's pretty quick and handles like a go cart.

Back on subject, me and my wife are just about the only ones who drive our speed. Of course it started out as the car I picked out for my wife and I have slowly unconsciously taken over with mods.

Anymore I just get aggravated when I let people drive my car. When I got it my dad drove it frequently. It's been a couple years but he came to visit and I just didn't feel like letting him drive it... Only person up this way who has driven it is a close bud with a fully built boosted d16 civic. He can drive and appreciates cars in general so it was no big deal but the whole time I'm in the passenger seat thinking "why didn't you flat foot shift? Why are you shifting so late? Why are you revving the piss out of it to get it to move when I can almost let the clutch out with hardly no throttle at all..." its fucking aggravating. Lol.

Mom and brother drove it. Mom scared to boost and my brother has a vw rabbit with minor mods. And he wants a ms3 now.. Dad won't cause it's an import ha

PPD369Speed3 11-03-2012 01:02 AM

My dad drives it once in a while and I seriously hate when he drives it. He rides the shit out of the clutch. He will put my car into first gear at 3000 rpm. It drives me insane and I always yell at him and he denies he is doing it. He also swears that he is not causing any damage at all to my clutch.

He is no longer allowed to drive my car lol.

A few times I tried to teach my girlfriend how to drive it just in case something happened and she needed to drive it. I might buy her a pos honda for 1000 and let her fuck up that tranny.. FYHN

Nakadah 11-03-2012 01:27 AM

Gen 1.5

My dad didn't like that the car was small and described it as uncomfortable, however he loved playing with other cars on the road. He really liked the seats

My mom drove it once. She has driven stick all her life and managed to stall it a few times.

I let a family friend(my dad's age) drive it at an empty parking lot and he burned by tires :( after which he decided to "compensate" me by burning the tires on his BMW by drifting on the parking lot. I told him that my MS3 is faster than his 996 C2 and he was laughing at me, however he never took the Porsche out of the garage while I had the car.

Gen 2

My dad likes the car much better than Gen 1 because it is bigger and looks modern. He likes it so much that he says that he wants to buy one of those.

My mom has not driven the car yet. I told her that she can do it whenever she wants, but I have the feeling that she does not want to. She is also scared to ride with me in the car as she says that it is very fast.

Rental car baby.. Thats what I'm doing. Getting a Manual Rental car and teaching the GF on that.

The *FEW* times I let my dad drive my cars he fucked up the tranny. He's an old-hat truck driver so he tries shifting without the clutch... Well, You can just tell what happens here.

From now on hes not allowed to drive my cars. Infact no one is.

kolosok17 11-03-2012 02:16 AM

The day after I bought it I didn't get to drive it. It was my dad's birthday, so I figured I'd let him have some fun. Other than that, a friend of mine drove it. He has a 50's Ford Falcon and has driven manual all of his life. He did fairly well with it.

shifter48 11-03-2012 03:59 AM

Let one of my co workers drive mine when I first got it. He has a Miata modded and was really impressed. Since then I have modded the Speed quite-a-bit as you can see. I let him drive it again the other day and all he could say was it was night and day and was now bad-ass with a big grinn, said badass quite afew times with a big smile.

Second this. I taught my wife to drive stick on a rental in Europe. They're all manual there. We had a Renault Twingo, gayest car ever. She did really well, tho. We lived in this house at the foot of a mountain where the road went straight up, but you had to pause at a cross street with a blind intersection (damn walls you can't see around!) and then inch forward to cross that street, still going uphill, and finally turn into our house right where the road got steepest. She learned stick on that beast of a road.

She now claims that she's forgotten how, which suits me fine. She never touches my MS3.

I let my mom drive it once when she came to visit. She taught me how to drive on her manual when I was 15 (Volvo DL station wagon), so I figured turnabout was only fair. Plus, she's an old lady now and drives a Sentra, so I felt bad for her.

2008MS3H 11-03-2012 07:45 AM

I have let 2 people other than me drive my MS3.
My best friend who I have known 20 years and was never once worried about - plus he let me drive his Audi A3 so I figured it was a fair trade lol.
Second was this girl I've been dating. She can drive stick but had trouble revving the motor too much while her foot was on the clutch. She drove it once and that was the end of that!

CaptObvious75 11-03-2012 08:32 AM

No one besides me drives my car. I get pissed off as it is watching mazda mechanics bring my car in to their garage

Printman 11-03-2012 09:01 AM

My wife can drive my car (she drives like a granny) and be fine but she cannot ride in it as a passenger, says it makes her motion sick. Probably just my driving style, LOL.

My son 11 and my daughter 13 both love to ride in it and both are fighting over who's it will be one day. I am training my daughter on how to drive a stick with an old ranger PU out on our farm so she will be fine. My son is still a little too short and young but is begging to learn. Best way to teach kids how to drive a stick is to teach them how to ride a motorcycle with manual clutch then they understand the concept when changing gears in a manual car.

fishin53 11-03-2012 09:05 AM

trust my dad to drive my car, no problem there can drive it with no troubles and knows about the car

taught my brother how to drive stick when it was stock not that much of problems, now he cant drive it cause of the mounts.

mom cant drive a manual car and she doesnt wanna learn cause of my car

let my friend drive it cause he has a manual so i though eh it would be no big deal. big mistake, he rode the clutch so fucking much and was just driving around at like 3.5-4k so hes not driving it anymore.

my grandfather decided to take my car to the grocery store cause his car was blocked in the garage, i thought no problem he's been driving stick for like 55 years, but no completely roasted the clutch cause the driveway is on a steep incline and didnt understand 1st/reserve. smelt like butn clutch for days after that

I am new to the mazdaspeed 3 i just bought it last week but idk if i would let someone drive it since my last experience. I had a Scion tc with intake and and exaust nothing special and let a friend drive it and he blew the engine downshifting. now that i have a MS3 I dont think i would let anyone drive it who wasnt used to the torque steer lol...

ms3rick 11-03-2012 10:40 AM

SUBBED!

A friend of 12 years can drive my car when ever, and most people from nator msf. My gf will never drive my car...

sho 11-03-2012 05:44 PM

My best friend let me drive his Audi A4 2.0t home from pittsburg, so i let him drive my ms3 last weekend. He loved the torque steer and how quick it was.

PUGENE 11-03-2012 06:21 PM

The wife's fuel pump died in her old Cavalier, and it would cost more to fix than the car was worth. Needed a car fast, found a great 2010 Corolla S...with a 5 speed. At the time I had a truck so for a week at night I would go out with her and teach her until she got it... so I at least knew she learned how to drive stick from someone who's half decent at it. she had driven my car a few times when it was stock...once I got any sort of mods she's kind of intimidated by it and is afraid to get on it...that and I don't let her drive it after our last outing...the idea of someone driving my car and not understanding the concept of forced induction or how a turbo works (i.e. low rpm boosting = bad) kinda irks me :Eyecrazy:

aggierandy 11-03-2012 06:45 PM

I let my dad drive it to lunch right after I bought it. He's an old school muscle guy. He'd had a olds 442, el camino, 69 vette, 37 Chevy pickup with a 350.

It was fun to see his grin as he ran out third gear. My mom was in the back seat telling him to slow down. Then tell my mom its not to fast, he'll be fine. He later told me to be careful when she wasn't around (worry wart mothers, he gets it).

I tried to teach my brother his to drive it but he struggled. My girlfriend picked it up pretty quick.

For my car it's Me my Dad and one of my close friends.
Me: I get 400 km a tank
Dad: 300 - 350 a tank
Close friend: ranges from 300 mostly 450 though. I let him drive it when he install's parts on my car.
Top speed:
Me: 250 km
Dad: 260 km
Guess my car went though a fair share of abuse :owned:

PushingRedline 11-05-2012 07:04 AM

Had an old MS3 Gen 1 guy drive my car (he is my neighbor). He now owns a BMW 135 and let's just say half way through the drive he admitted he misses the MS3.

speed_freak91 11-05-2012 08:20 AM

Mom= Terrified to drive my car.
Fiance= Loved driving my car until coils went on.
Brother= Shit grin every time he gets the opportunity to drive it.
Friends= Surprised at how fast the car is after looking at it.

buckeye3d 11-05-2012 08:58 AM

My wife doesn't drive it a lot but she does enjoy it when she does. She drove a manual Mini Cooper S before we had our first kid. She used to give me shit when I first got it about not being smooth on the shifts. That stopped after she drove it the first time. The only other person who has driven mine so far was at the tire shop. The kid who tried to move my car inside the shop stalled it 4 times in a row! He got out and another guy moved it.

Tacheny 11-05-2012 09:04 AM

The wife is the only one to have driven her so far. I trust her and she's a pretty careful driver and can drive a stick like a champ.

As far as anyone else goes, nope. I don't trust any one else, except maybe my dad, but he's lives out of town.

I'm mostly happy no one has asked to drive it, because I don't want to have to deal with the bullshit of saying no.

Wow how do you guys drive?!
I must be the granny of MS3 drivers.. I get in the low 600kms per tank (though the estimated distance it says I can drive on my latest tank was like 830kms LOL).
I only go fast on occasion... when someone pisses me off or when I'm showing someone who doesn't know what the MS3 is all about..

We boost lots haha. Stock I got around 500- 550. Cranking your boost to 20 psi and it will eat your tank up at one point I was averaging 19L/100km haha. Plus @secondchance taught me how to drive a boosted car haha. But I usually shift around 4 k. Or it could just be cause I'm 19. I usually do city driving that maybe a reason. I just got $2500 scholarship time for turbo swap!

6Y MAZDA 11-05-2012 03:29 PM

I let/wanted/asked my girlfriend to drive my car this past weekend (saturday). She doesn't drive stick. I taught her briefly once back when i had my regular 6 about a year ago in a parking lot so she never got out of 2nd gear. So in the speed6 we were on a long stretch of road that ends at a dead end and no one ever drives on.

She stalled only once and after that she was golden. She got enough speed to get into 4th gear. We got to the end of the road and turned back for another round, in 3rd gear i told her to get to 3000 rpm and then floor it! She was a little hesitant at 1st but she did it and she LOVED it. Right after that she was like "Omg, now i understand why you love to floor it and get into boost."

Oh and my friend who has a 5-speed mustang drove my car for the 1st time after my girlfriend did, and surprisingly she did A LOT better than he did haha. But after driving his car, i understood why. His clutch is completely different. But still, it was hilarious.

She asked me to go again on Sunday, so we did :)

dadderllama 11-05-2012 03:42 PM

Fiancé- with me- dropped clutch in first without any throttle, it stalled, she cried and has been passenger only ever since.

Dad- with me- liked it, reminded him of his RX3 from the 70's( he pulled and shipped motor to Cali to get work done to it, put back in and straight piped exhaust ), but he's not overly excited

Brother-in-law- with me- holy shit this thing is fast (stock at the time) he approves

Mom- without me!- well lets just say she asked to move it out of the driveway, and came back 30 minutes later with a giant smile... She last drove stick in the late 70's in my dads rx3.... I literally thought she would stall it parking in the street... I know who I'm calling if I need a driver

MS_Driver 11-05-2012 04:18 PM

My wife is the only one that has driven it without me in the car.
I'll let pretty much any sober person drive my car when I'm drunk to get me home.
Ruined clutch/insurance claim is a lot less than DUI.

My friends sister drove it once - about a 7 mile drive through city streets - I think she stalled it about 20 times. Got home safe though.

snailmail 11-05-2012 07:04 PM

I dont let anyone drive it.
If anyone fucked anything up, well that wouldnt be good...

Mazda Lover 11-05-2012 09:19 PM

I let my mother drive it to go pick up my dog after I'd had too many drinks last xmas. She's driven sticks for the last 30 years or so. As an intoxicated passenger the the trip was pretty entertaining. She drives an S40 and was not used to the power so she roasted the tires from a dead stop then chirped 2nd gear while fighting the wheel. I guess she usually just floors the S40 and wasn't ready for what the MS3 put down when floored.

When I was younger I used to be anal about allowing other people to drive my cars, but now I don't care...it's just a car.

Haha will I get added to the list? Nah I'm jk but did drive Regan and Alex's Speed 3.

JDW1 11-05-2012 10:24 PM

I'll let some one else drive mine when I sign my title over and they have paid me for it. As for not boosting in 5th, I've hit 160 in mine so you could say I've boosted in 6th...

Dumyz 11-05-2012 10:37 PM

Both my parents love my car, and my dad thinks it's a sleeper which in a lot of ways it is. :baby:

Let my grandpa drive it once. He only said a few things about it.

"Definitely not a V8."
"Torque steer is going to get you killed."
"Your clutch sucks, I think there's something wrong with it."

So that was the last time he'll be ever driving it.

LOL! The question is how do YOU drive. 400-500km/tank sounds about right in the good days. What my computer says at fill up and the end result don't match up. After all, I have this car because I love driving and not because I care about fuel consumption, although as a University student I should...

With 20 miles on the clock, the wife attempted a small burn-out up the driveway. She hasn't driven it since, but she's a good driver so I don't worry. This car just doesn't interest her. she also had to take the Buick one day when her battery died. She called me later "wow, that car is fast". I KNOW she didn't apply full throttle because her response would have been entirely different....along the lines of "Don't you ever take the kids in this car!"

The ex-wife, however, didn't have a straight panel remaining on her car. She is a horrible driver. In 7 years of daily driving the Buick, I NEVER let her drive it....not once.

And thus the reason for being an ex wife. If you're going to trust your wife with your kids, house, heart, and your very life, you should be able top trust her with your car.

Let little brother (@mingenyx) drive my car: "This is slow! My Your tires work in third gear?"...was still dialing in my e85. And he was goign through his stock tires with his power mods...

Like I said.. the granny of all MS3 drivers!!

Times are tough and fuel is expensive (lame excuse, but anyways)... I know this sounds counter-intuitive for buying this car, but I try employ hyper-miling techniques whenever possible... moderate acceleration, slow approach to lights if I anticipate them being green when I get there, coasting on neutral, etc.

I always feel like I'm playing some game against my car to try to squeeze as much mileage on the tank. Best fuel economy I've found is on a flat road going around 80km/h (50mph) on 6th gear, usually average about 5.0L/100km or 47MPG.

It's a habit I picked up from driving my previous car, I guess I can't kick the habit of trying to be fuel efficient yet.

Don't get me wrong, I drive fast too, it's the whole reason why I bought the car (plus I love the look of the genpu), but I don't want to drive fast all the time. Usually when I floor it for about half a km, I see the distance I can drive usually drop between 10-20kms haha

Two people have driven my car:
-Roommate: Has an Accord coupe, V6 6spd; I needed a ride to the airport so I took my car and he drove it home; when I got out I told him no WOT before 3k. Asked him later how it compared to his car; he said it felt "different"... while smiling ear to ear, lol. FYHN

-Girl I was banging for a while: I was shitfaced one night so I got her to drive me/the car home and drop some friends off. She said the clutch was very different from her Rio (lol) but didn't stall it once. She was doing fine, then I told her to "fuck off babying it... the car is a slut, it likes it rough". With that she kicked it down to third and redlined it; she was driving like a fucking champ. Burned half a tank of gas that night; I fucked her after that harder than I ever did before or after.

I'm kinda-sorta-maybe seeing another girl now (my life is fucking tangly lol) who wants to drive it; has a 5spd civic and used to hang out with a big integra/240zx crowd; I'm interested to see how she compares to the last one :smokin:

Wife daily drives the red car. Shes in love with it. I load the miles on the black car. Its the beater. I have handed the keys to the red car over to a couple different friends before. I once had to take one of their cars to work to do some maintenance on it and they had the car overnight. I dont have dumbass friends and would trust most of them to take my car overnight

Danwelford 11-08-2012 12:36 AM

The wife drives mine and it's acquired a scrape on the bumper which has been fixed and some kurb rash but she's not owning up to that

PUGENE 11-08-2012 05:45 AM

Wife was complaining about not driving my car before any mods, now that I've done a few she's afraid to. Once this snow is gone she'll have another opportunity...I think it's sexy if a chick can drive a manual transmission well.

CWP_MS3 11-08-2012 11:14 AM

I've let the wife drive it and she refused to let it spool. I told her to get on a nice straight road, and start with 4th at 3k, and then when she felt comfortable, go to 3rd and start at 3k, etc..

In 4th, as soon as the turbo started to make noise and remotely pull, she let off. Never even made full boost. Lol.

ezraperson18 11-09-2012 09:28 AM

Let my dad drive the speed. Drove it like a 90 year old man. Let my uncle drive it he's been racing for decades builds his own race cars from the ground up blah blah blah, had a shit eating grin on his face cause non of his 8 second camaros or chevelle's can corner for shit. Let my ex drive the car, goodbye second gear. I know... I deserve it... My gf now is pregnant and still has a hard time watching her speed in my car. She's been driving stick for years and drives it very well. Girls driving stick like a boss=:hump:

Agreed. I don't know where people are hating on the styling of the car, it is just awesome. I didn't even realize that people hated the smile until other people told me that they hated it. And the reason why they hate it? Because they read other reviewers who said that they hated the smiley, and the people who read this felt like they needed to conform to their opinions. The exterior for me = win.

The red-spotted seats are okay, but I don't really care and when you sit down you don't really see it anyways. Compared to my wife's Yaris, the Mazdaspeed 3 seats are WAY more comfortable (wife agrees because she can actually fall asleep in them) and holds you in decently while turning. They are not Recaro seats, but I like the look of them better than the GTI's lumberjack plaid.

But I do want to try the Ford ST just to see what the interior fuss is about.

But back on topic... no one else has driven my car yet.. except for the sales guy who drove my car to fill up the tank for me. Wife is too scared to drive my car because she's worried about how the clutch would be very different.

Dr. Speed 11-09-2012 12:15 PM

^^ I think there's a good amount of truth to that. It's the same with the torque steer "issue". Reviewers talk about it non-stop and people become convinced that it is either a bad thing, or more problematic than it actually is. I LOVE the torque steer. It reminds me that I'm driving a sporty car and makes me feel connected. If all you want is A to B with a disconnected feel and boring styling, get a Yaris, right? ;)

bvbull200 11-09-2012 12:56 PM

I'm "okay" with the torque-steer and agree that it is a little overblown by the magazine editors and such, but how anyone can consider it a good thing is beyond me.

Alejo_NIN 11-09-2012 01:46 PM

i have to beg my wife to dirve my car.
i love it when she does because that';s fucking sexy.
also, she is very careful and never speeds.

she has driven both my cars and likes the speed3 better.
she always complains about how her car is so slow compared to mine (hers skyactiv 3 hatch)

now she's pregnant and she still drives it every once in a while.

So the night I bought my car I had my dad drive it home. I was to damn tired to learn stick on the highway. I trust my dad since he is a truck driver. he owned a 1971 cougar with a 351C engine (stick) he also ownd a 1971 dogde duster with the 6pack racing engine (slap stick) so I had complete confidence driving my newly bought car.

As for my mom, grandma, and my 3 sister they never touched my car.

this past may I got rear ended and couldt move my car I asked my dad to move it. he goes I aint driving ur car its urs, then I told him and he drove it again. im just glad he moved it so I didn't get towed ahaha

Payne Racing 67 08-12-2013 08:36 AM

Welp, since it's been revived, fuck it:

My MS3... The first day I had it, my Uncle Dan, who I live with, wanted to drive it. He's had a porsche 911, saab 900 turbo, 82 corvette, and on top of that, worked in the automotive field(sales) for years. Now, he's 68 and hasn't driven stick since the early 90's, so I was a bit nervous, but he helped me get the car so I kinda couldn't say no. He did ride the fuck out of the clutch taking off a few times, but other than that he actually drove it like a boss and was lovin it. I let one or 2 of my close friends drive it, but that's really it. I'm not one to let people drive my cars. Took my dad, who drives race cars with big block, 800hp v8's going 120mph through turns, in it and multiple friends of his told me he was scared in it lmao.

My Cobra: Ha, I do not let ANYONE drive it. Only exception was @STI_LOL; because I always drive his MS3, and my parents' neighbor, who has had 5 other mustangs on top of his current 01 GT. He was loving it. Didn't even go WOT, only about 3/4 throttle and he was happy as could be.
