My pu came with a hole in the tire, replace all 4? ~10 month old pu, tire started leaking. Not able to find any nails, brought it in to see if valve was leaking (really slow leak, took days to drop 5psi). Dealer pulls a plug out of one of the tires and gives it to me. Funny because I bought the car with less than 10 miles on it and never plugged a tire or took it in for service where anyone took it on the road. Dealer replugged the tire and now its leaking like crazy. Tried to get it patched but too close to sidewall and was told it never should have been plugged in the first place. Dealer where I bought it says its been 10 months and I could have got my own nail and plugged it so they will not offer anything other than selling me new tires at cost. Looked into replacing just one tire (how many miles on the set of tires is too many to replace just one?) or two but the stockers are $300 a pop, they don't seem like that great of tires in the first place after reading some posts here and winter is coming (some snow). Seems like now because I got a brand new car with a plug in a tire I'm now faced with the best solution being to buy 4 Continental extreme dws's or something. Does calling mazda to complain do anything? They said all I could do was make a formal complaint. |
hmmm I think the tire got a nail in it from a test drive and they plugged the tire, I would be a pain in the ass and demand that they pay for the tire. I know that we have had new cars get nails or something in there tires from test drives and we replace that tire with a brand new tire. |
that sucks dude. what dealership is this??? |
Measure the tread depth of the remaining three good tires, and compare it to the tread depth on that tire model new. If they're really close, get one. If not, get two and put both on the front (front tires wear faster on the MS3, or just about any FWD car for that matter). |

No need to replace all 4. |
^ Seconded the above. With less than 1k miles on the car I sidewall punctured a tire, and opted to replace just that one (at $250 - fuckin OEM bullshit). It was in the rear and honestly the car drove fine, but the moment I rotated the tires, shit went janky. Just buy two Conti DW tires - the DWS is all season, which is nice if you have no real winter... but if you have winter, get the high performance summer ones and just commit to a set of proper snow tires. |
If it were me and they found a plug that I didn't put, I would rain all hell down on that dealer until they replaced that tire. That sir, is COMPLETE BULLSHIT! |
Call Mazda of North America. Let them know your not some pan handling piece of shit, this is an honest find for you and the fact that it was repaired in an unsafe manor and sold to you is unacceptable. You transport your wife, kid , mom or ________ fill I the blank and that fact that this has put your ass and loved ones in danger for a single tire that should have been replaced is an insult to you as a customer. It's not about the cost of the tire, it's the principal. I'd demand two matching tires now that they're trying to make you pay. If you don't get anywhere with the guy on the phone, talk to his boss and proceed up the chain until one of the big dicks is wondering why he is wasting his time talking about a tire and shoves a foot in the stealerships ass, at least that's what is do if it were an honest find. |
I can see were the dealership is coming from though...10 months later you come in? I use to work as a service adviser and I would have told you the same thing. It sucks but it is what it is. I would get a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires and then decide on what to do with the stock rims and tires. |
If you cant get them to replace it/them, I'd suggest getting different tires from tirerack. Price wise, you can get 4 of a better tire for not much more than 2 of factory tires would cost. Just my personal suggestion. |

get 1 if the other 3 are in good shape if not, then get two tires of whatever style you want. put those on the rear. wear out the OEM tires on the front. then when you buy two more, buy ones that match the ones on the rear. install new ones on the front. then, hopefully, they will be able to wear down evenly and be replaced in the future as a set of four. |
