Body shop called me up today and told me that the "unibody is off square"
Waiting for the insurance appraiser to go out and look at it again to adjust the repair time and cost.
not liking this news...
1. no cool car for longer
2. car might not be the same ever again
3. more depreciation of car value

I looked into the depreciation credit, and apparently this doesnt exist in RI...
I plan on calling a lawyer tomorrow and asking them though

The rental we got is a 2011 mazda6, basic model
...this car is bad, makes me sad that this is in the mazda family

States differ on what you call a depreciation credit. In TN and KY it's called diminished value, and you have to get the vehicle inspected by a specialized lawyer before proceeding. As far as the unibody being out of square, make sure you get the measurement sheets from the shop when you pick the car up. They should have a measuring system much like an alignment machine in service garages, most commonly it is a system designed by a company called Chief. They can/should print out both before and after pull measurements. I believe most manufacturers have a +/-2mm tolerance...

Insurance looked at it, then dropped it off at collision shop
might be too late for diminished value if it's even available here...
I planned to keep this car until the bitter end anyway

I have heard good things about the shop i brought it to before and after I dropped it off, so I'm confident they will do a good job, just the time this shit takes pisses me off

I got the same thing, even tho I usually keep some room between the car behind me and in front of me. And I'm constantly watching how the car behinds me slows down.

If He's coming closer and I feel like He's not gonna make it, I just move forwards and used the space I kept between me and the next car.

This saved my genpu ass more than 3 times. In texas ppl drives like crap. Specially in U-turns, when the opposite direction is on green a lot of cars are waiting and if you are fare behind, the driver getting ready to enter the U-turn drives in, usually with speed, got surprised and BOOM.

I got the scratched estimated, the girl insurance paid out the damage and I ued that money for principal payment on my car loan the time I had the loan.

Since I know I'm gonna race this car, I'm just waiting for the next idiot to hit me from behind and then get the bumper fix or replaced.

Update, car is almost ready aside from the bumper
Got a new muffler, and the crease on the rear right was repaired and that whole side was repainted to blend the paint
alignment was done on all 4 wheels, breaks and suspension checked out with no problems

the new bumper the body shop ordered was damaged in shipping
new bumper arrived today, they primed it and started painting it, but the paint had some crazy reaction with the primer... turns out they have to use some other kind of primer so the bumper has to get stripped and repainted...
ETA is now monday

I know its not good to wax a fresh coat of paint... it has to cure, something like 90 days until its 100% complete done
i did find a few things that are good for treating the fresh paint until its completely cured and ready for wax, anyone know about this shit or should i just leave it be?
3M Imperial Hand Glaze is a gentle moisturizer, especially for beautifying freshly painted surfaces!

When I was in the business, I always advised my clients to leave it be, only wash it by hand with a mild detergent and to use some sort of microfiber wash mitt to ensure they got no scratches on their fresh paint. As for waxing, it's not needed at that point, if the paint shop is worth a shit, because everything will be sanded and buffed. The hand glaze you're talking about we used to remove any fine swirl marks, usually on black vehicles, and one again, shouldn't really be needed. The buffing process uses compound, polish, and then a finer polish. It will be well protected for the 90 days that you shouldn't wax it.

Picked up today
Might be bringing it back due to a small scratch/dent in the hatch that was overlooked and alignment seems off

they color matched the lower bumper area to the front, but it looks like its lighter to me...
maybe its just because theres a more even and larger surface area on the rear bumper as opposed to the front grill with all of the gills and lines

Appreciate the 2 feedbacks
I been walking around the car for hours now, the front trim is definitely darker
I'm going to ask and see if they would mind making the bumper slightly darker - expecting a no, but worth a shot

Happy to have my shit back after almost 4 weeks
I feel like a nub at shifting again though, drove an auto this whole time

Also picking up my Cobb SRI/TIP and AP tomorrow
Going to try to wait to install the SRI until after i get internals and a RMM

Like the black lower valance. I have a CWP and think that would tie the front and back together nicely. Glad you are back in action- rental cars suck ass...

I had some time to look at everything in the sunlight today, and I'm not happy...
The bumper is definitely reconditioned, there are some warped areas, and it doesnt line up with the rest of the car properly in a few spots
the inside of the bumper has some markings on it, probably not something that would be on an OEM part

The insurance estimate has several line items for work to be done to the trunk lid, and it looks like nothing was touched

Reading through the rest of the estimate, it says that I'm entitled to request OEM or aftermarket parts to be used, so I'm not sure if I had specifically request an OEM bumper to get put on, or if thats expected

Looks like this isnt over yet... fucking A

That sucks. It's a headache, but don't let up on them until it is fully repaired and you are satisfied with the work!

chances are if you dont specifically ask for oem parts they will cheap out and go aftermarket.

My rear window was shattered, insurance company paid for a new one but went aftermarket. the hole where the rear wiper goes through was giant it looked so retarded the glass looked like it had been temper treated wrong. so i bitched at the insurance company to replace for oem. Looks good now

Dropping car off again, they were nicer about than i thought they would be
trunk lid is getting the dent removed and the bumper is getting re-done
was informed that the bumper was bought from a local dealer, will believe that when i see the receipt for it though

Was a 93 camry, his front drivers corner went under my passenger rear corner.
Somehow there was enough force to twist things around and force one of his license plate screws into my bumper right above the exhaust, and even to put a kink in the upper body panel between hatch and rear passenger window.
Waiting for appraiser to make an appointment to see it, I drove it away from the scene but something feels weird, maybe alignment or suspension damage?

Any rough ideas on what this will cost the other guys insurance?
At least now I can get the lower bumper area painted to match the front grill instead of plasti dipping it like I planned to. Maybe even score an aftermarket exhaust instead of OEM, even if its just an axle-back, and tail lights. Are the 2011+ tail lights equipped with yellow directionals?
wow im sorry you had to go through this because of someone elses mistake.

my .02 cents would be "who cares how much it costs him or his insurance, just make sure its like new or better"

when my Z was sideswiped i lost all love for the car....people are so careless and dont give a crap, they dont realize you work hard for what you have, and that your car is more than just a "car".
just make sure everything is fixed, and since its his fault, why not say you already have aftermarket exhaust....shhh i didnt say that...damn phantoms

Thanks man, everything is pretty much wrapped up at this point
The other driver's insurance payed everything, since he was 100% at fault.
My insurance company sent an appraiser a few times to look at the damage, once before I dropped it off, and a few times while it was at the shop whenever they found something that needed to get added to the claim.
I thought about getting another exhaust, but it would have been just an axle-back, I can wait until the warranty is done to get one myself.

I dropped the car back off today for them to take care of the few minor things that they didnt notice. Small dent on the hatch, oversprayed paint on one of the door frames, new bumper not lining up properly on one side, and shitty blend job in one area
Going on vacation in a few days and picking it up when I get back, the owner of the place is going to do everything himself instead of his henchmen to guarantee I dont bring it back a 3rd time.
