Is my strut shot or upper bearing mount? I installed some H&R springs about 5k miles ago. I have started noticing a rattling sound at the front right tire. When I open the hood and look at the top of the shock. The part with the 3 bolts and the bolt going over the top of the shock with the allen key. I can grab the wheel and rock it back and forth an I see this part move back and forth. And it makes a clunking sound. The 3 bolts are not moving but the actual center shock. The part with the bolt over the allen hole. You guys think this is a bad strut or top bearing mount? Thank you, |
Sounds like a "bearing mount" to me. |
If its a strut mount, you should be able to push the whole strut assembly up with ease. Just jack that side up, and push up on the bottom of the tire with your hands. If it moves at all, the strut mount is shot/collapsed. You shouldn't be able to push a wheel up at all, but if its blown it may move an inch or so. Also, sometimes when you lift it up, you'll see it kind of pop as it drops down. Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. Depends on how fucked up it is. But try pushing on it and see what happens. |
