Need advice to buy or not

Are these cars problematic to be brand new?
read/searched online per say horror story of bad smoke, turbo seal, tranny ,mount is that everything wrong with the car?
i'm still contemplating on getting
i just want to DD it and mod it eventually..

Rustysocket 11-07-2011 10:55 AM

No problems here.

asall667 11-07-2011 10:59 AM

No problems here.:smashfreakB:

You seem afraid.

If I were you, I'd save my money and spend it on a 6 year supply of canned foods.

wolly6973 11-07-2011 11:02 AM

Most of those issues are with the gen1 cars. There have been a few newer ones with the issues you mentioned, but not many. The most common problem for our gen seems to be the 2nd gear synchro. It is covered under the powertrain warranty, so no worries there.

It is a great car for what it is. DO EET!

Baseballpler 11-07-2011 11:10 AM

Had an 08 and sold it because I let all the hype of engines blowing scare me... one of my biggest regrets to date. I just bought a 2012 and am glad to be back, I won't make the same mistake again. Just be careful with the route you go on mods, and read the hell out these forums and you'll be good to go. Get one, you won't regret it

Search on all those topics and you will learn about them, young padawan.

Buy, donate, read, mod, read more, then keep reading... This place has tons of info and as long as you try and find the answer to ur question first, people will be happy to answer it.

Atlanta 11-07-2011 09:08 PM

For that price I'm assuming new, which should mean full warranty. Nothing to worry about.

dannybot 11-07-2011 09:15 PM

What about an extended warranty? Anybody have one? Mazda one? Experiences? Advice?

Stingray69 11-07-2011 09:21 PM

Only problem I haz is traction in 1st and 2nd. The other problem is co-workers won't ride with me anymore after a couple spirited cloverleafs. Other than that no problems yet @10k.

ahskeetz 11-07-2011 09:25 PM

stock shift feel could use some improvement. thats where synthetic tranny fluid and solid shift bushings come in. fine tune it and the shifter will feel like butter. if you add a short shift plate, i'd suggest getting a lighter counterweight and a heaver shift knob. thats the setup i have and i lub it.

another must-have mod is an upgraded rear motor mount. this reduces wheelhop, improves shift feel, and prevents your engine from banging against your firewall during hard acceleration.

the 2 above mods aren't really performance related, but make the car feel so much better to drive.

rghispanic88 11-07-2011 09:48 PM

i speed too much

i spend too much on mods

i have too much fun

but really its a great car. take care of it and it will take care of you.

there are a very few lemons that will have turbo issues which should be covered under warranty

MS3kid08 11-07-2011 09:53 PM

At 49,240miles no issues thus far.. still on stock(original) turbo even

except the PoPo doesnt like me showing off my turbo to all the ricer kids
and im on set #3 of tires...

Sid3wayS 11-07-2011 10:12 PM

At first I used to think like you op n then I read a post that summed it up preaty well for me.... This is a technical forum to find answers for problems, no one is going to make a thread saying hey my car is running fine, all is good move along. (sorry but I cant remember who im quoting). The MS3 like any other car has issues, bad pcv system, weak motor mounts, and a 3rd gear that will take u a week to find. Modding compounds these issues, but as long as you search, read and ask questions, every issue is easily solved. Take the car for a test drive and I promise the day after, you will be posting about how good she looks in your driveway and a month later how u just finished installing rmm sri/tip ap dp cdfp and now your afr are low at wot.

TexasSpeed3 11-07-2011 11:29 PM

no issues at 10k

platinum07 11-07-2011 11:32 PM

I bought a Evo to fix all of said problems.. never looked back

jkmags 11-08-2011 01:31 AM

I agree, the cars drivetrain is fairly solid, the only issue(s) I have are with rattles in the Dash that eventually I will bring in to have checked. Other than that the car is fun to drive and the price to power ratio is one of the best out there and you get room for 5 plus a hatch for extra space in the back. Just remember if (when) you do buy your speed, it comes with summer tires and will need winter tires if you live in a cold climate.

f-castrillo 11-08-2011 01:49 AM

I have a 2011, and I haven't had any problems aside from a clunk (I suspect my JBR rear swaybar) and rear view mirror rattle caused by my JBR PMM. I would think most kinks in production have been ironed out this far into the gen2's life cycle.

2011speed 11-08-2011 01:54 AM

my motor blew at 3 k, my turbo started smokin at 6, my trans went at 6500. so just a couple small things.

as long as you don't go past 3k rpms, wait at least 3 seconds between shifting gears, and not go full boost, u should be good to go.

Thanks for clearing that up , not sure if ge was srs :You_Rock_Emoticon:

Really plan on getting it gotta stay firm with the dealer, they wants me to pay for them getting the car 209miles away is this legit? The car is at dealership now as we speak

TexasSpeed3 11-08-2011 05:38 AM

hell no they can pay to have it shipped themselves if they want to make the sell. dont let them pull that shit on you.

Sid3wayS 11-08-2011 05:40 AM

So fuck that dealer drive 209 miles and get it from the other one....

On a serious note if they dnt have any speeds on the lot they would have to have one shipped regardless they are just tryn to push that onto u so their end profit is greater.

ThizSpeed3 11-08-2011 06:16 AM

Texasspeed sid3ways, wow thanks I almost fell for it but been playing hardball not pickun up there calls
they want me to come in test ive see the car
details last spoke was 407 72months 4.5 apr
439 72 months bc of "shipping"

What should I do stay firm on 407 when I go in and threaten to leave and nvr come back if I dont get that, seems high for 72months anway but ok with it

ADlBOO 11-08-2011 06:22 AM

That seems really high.

mizboo102 11-08-2011 06:42 AM

I thought it was 21k?

Remember, if you research any car, especially on a car specific forum, you will find problems. Gen 2s are looking pretty solid though. Work on the price a little bit but when all is said and done, you won't regret your decision.

What color are you looking for? If it's a white one, that might be the reason for the extra charge.

21,767 silver is the selling price
tax trade in payoff sums it roughly 23k rounded

marco427 11-08-2011 07:04 AM

10k here and my only problem is OE rubber (Dunlop) that is about gone. Full disclosure: my route to town is a twisty, mountain road and I use the excellent handling of the car to its fullest, and every trip. A bonus is good fuel mileage for such a little pocket rocket, usually 25+ in spite of the fun and games.

adlpb 11-08-2011 07:11 AM

I shot my entire left-front tire on a single autocross event. 6.5K miles here. No problems at all.

hcbr929rr2 11-08-2011 07:46 AM

I paid 21,600 for my 2012 and got 17,000 on a trade that I owed 15,200 on, now granted your tax rates are gonna be different being that I'm in CO but at 72 months @ 5.9% my payments are only 360.... they are jacking with you somewhere buddy

shaftyella 11-08-2011 08:06 AM

No issues at 15k (knock on wood). Just follow the advice of the guys here and you'll be fine. Most of the horror stories you'll hear are the people who wouldn't listen. IE...Running intake and high flow cat on stock tune and internals, modding without monitoring FP etc...

jimmy 11-08-2011 08:46 AM

Fyi: shit is going to rattle. But you'll be having too much fun to notice.

My wife and I were talking about getting a new car. We went and test drove a blue Speed3 and loved it. We went inside to run numbers and ended up walking out with the 2012 VRM showroom one. I wanna make up excuses to just go drive it everyday. It really is a nice car.
