Default Need a crash bar??

ok so i had my uncle, a metal works guy, come buy my house and he is going to make me a crash bar. he said it take no more than 2 hours. I also asked him if he be willing to make more if needed. So my ? is there any one that is interested if the price and item is right befor i tell him to make some extras.

Also i will be getting it this week, maybe monday or tuesday and ill post plenty of pics.

Am I going out on a limb by saying an anti-roll bar aka sway bar? Can't see someone fabricating one in 2 hours. I think I'm going nuts.

no its the one in first pick but just on genpu not genone. and he said around 2 hour job. but like i said ill post pics up asap when he has it made. i wanting it for a bigger fmic unlike my tiny core i have now.

ok you no how ultimate racing makes a crash bar for a bigger fmic, well my uncle is making me one and he might make me some extras if i wanted them so thats why i posted this. just trying to help peeps out.

I know what I was thinking of... Crash Bolts.... Something we used to use on the Dodge Neons when we wanted more negative camber and only had $20 to spend. Essentially they allowed some 'slop' in the hole where the strut bolted to the steering knuckle and, provided you tightened them securely, worked like a charm.

I would be interested in said crash bar. Would your "uncle" tac some mounting tabs for mounting a IC core to it? I would be willing to sketch up a design of what I am talking about but obv $ as well as how STOUT of a crashbar would make my decision.

Well i dropped my crashbar off to him sunday night. And @JTMS3, what i was going to do is cut some alluminum and making brackets, sort of like cxracing has there bracket, and maybe tacking a nut on top of the crash bar where the bolt for the bracket can screw into. When he gets the crash bar finished ill do some different ways on mounting the inercooler. But the purpose for the bar is so i can put a larger intercooler and get ride of this dinky one i have now.

honestly I was looking at it last night.. if he can fab similar to stock that isnt as tall would be ideal. similar to my caveman drawing here



lines down are tabs or brackets tacked to the crashbar and most cores would be able to mount to it. At least most Treadstone cores will. Also, can you ask if there is anyway he can keep the tow hook spot? (round cirlce on the crashbar) Interested to see how this turns out.

^ this is something i would be interested in if he'd be willing to accept my crash bar being shipped to him. i need the tow hook spot left in tact also. i have the Ultimate Racing FMIC with the big core. so i am using there crash bar atm. i wanna get my new one in so i can use my CS tow plate mount.

i was on my phone and coudnt see the above pic. But yea you could do that your self honestly. Take a saw saw and cut away lol. Im looking for a whole new bar so that i have my stocker if i ever have to sell or something.

I'm looking for a whole new bar too, I was just saying if he basically took that size I drew up it would fit a 9" core easily. Right now a 7.5" fits under the stocker, if the new CB was the same height of the mounting bolts it would be perfect. Again, if he makes a second one depending on how sturdy it is I would definitly buy it but would want a tow hook welded in as well.

Ok. Subbed to this thread as I'm interested to see if the design proposed by @JTMS3 can be built by @chudson91 's uncle. Depending on the end result and proposed $$ I would be interested in this as well because I haven't decided on a FMIC yet.

For all reading or subbed to this thread, who makes cores large enough to warrant the modified bar?

if I didn't already have the piping kit and a TR8 on order I would be a buyer! I just need a crashbar so I don't have to fuck with the stocker.

uncle texted me today. Going tom. to test fit everything. Will post pics of fitment tom evening sometime. Oh and a treadstone core is also a legit core, very well built in my eyes. I will be doing a 30x10x3 i believe.

@chudson91 is that the tr10? at least we'll know for sure that the tr8 will fit by your core size. take good pics of the welds as well as full shots. Any status on if he was able to add the tow hook location?

dont mind the intercooler brackets, there not permanent due to waiting on this crash bar. Ok here are the pics, and i have to weld it this afternoon. Its just a test fit and it works perfectly.

hmm i thought you were gonna basically have it bout the same size as the stock one but with sections cut out to fit the intercooler. definitely let me know on the tow hook. i may just cut the tow hook piece off the stock crash bar and throw it on the UR crash bar that i already have

no i was not going to fab my stocker. I am getting ready to leave my house to go weld this up. I took welding class but its been a while. Note my if there will be any more made my uncle is doing the welding, but this is mine and i want to do it.

I am curious here as to why this crash bar was designed to only utilize two of the four front frame bolts on each side of the crash bar. I am assuming just because of the difficulty of home designing something to wrap around the contours? Any thoughts on this adversely affecting the integrity of said crash bar?

You shouldn't be looking at something like this for its "integrity," IMO.

I'm no structural engineer, but if I had to guess I'd say that something like this wouldn't even come remotely close to meeting, or even approaching, NHTSA standards...
