New info on the 2013 speeds
 

Well, My dealer got our emails today to place our orders for new cars. Turns out the 2013 speed 3s will be close to the same look outside, but inside will feature a full color touch screen navigation, HD radio, and a Pandora audio application.

The wheels are going to be 18" dark anodized alloy wheels (I know that was posted in a thread already), "mazdaspeed unique two-tone rear roof spoiler, and rear lower valance. I have a picture of what the head unit will look like, but cant post it until I get home from work later tonight. It looks like the same one thats in the 13 CX-5s if that helps.


Again, I know this was already discussed, but this will be the proof..

I know there are pictures of the body already somewhere in here, but Ill have a picture of the head unit, as well as the email saying the new options and trim level options.

I really hope the new head unit will be retro-fit ready to 2010-2012 MS3s. And I similarly hope the two-tone bumper is the same other than the color, so that I can throw a CWP one on my car if I haven't gotten it painted by then!

Fail on Mazda for not making it AWD. I swear, the year they do that, I'm trading my car in for winning.

Bumpers and mirrors should be black mica, if the earlier rumors were to be believed. The head unit is relevant to my interests though...

I am glad that they are making navigation screen bigger. While they were there, they should of changed headlights and front bumper, but oh well, maybe that will happen in 2014 models. Now is the time to grab 2012's for cheap I guess.

That I have no idea. Until we get one it will be tough to tell. And Im not expecting to get any for probably another 2 months, maybe more. When we place orders, Mazda then builds the cars off of our order, so it can take alot of time.

If they are smart it will be...I'm sure they can sell a shit tonne of these...I'd buy one

Looks nice I love that tri-screen action going on.

I'm interested to see if the top left information screen and head unit play nicely together. Would be great to have the map or stereo info on the head unit, with the upper display just showing the next turn info.

Even if they could fit, no one here is going to want to pay what they cost. The head units at Hyundai cost several grand for nav units, and not all of those were touch screen. I would imagine the ones for Mazda are similarly priced.

still really wish the new gun metal stockers were 8" instead of still being 7.5" with 225s. i would have bought a set of 2013 stock wheels had they been 8". could run 245s on those. oh well, i'd prefer an 8.5" anyway so that i can get 255s on there.

Really if you want stocker look with gunmetal and 8" wide look at RX-8 R3 rims, identical to pu stockers except they are darker and 19x8. I know I've got my eye on a set down the road. But just like all stock Mazda parts, they are stupid expensive -- $1300 each MSRP. Gives no hope for this head unit being a reasonable cost.

Kind of wished I had held off for a 2013 but oh well, I love my 2012.

eh, not a fan of rx-8 rims at all to be honest. probably one of the few. a bunch of people run them, so i'd rather go with Nurburgring if i'm doing something a lot of people run. and yeah, that head unit is going to be expensive. i would love to have it though.

suggestion was for rx-8 r3.... same design as pu just 19x8

oh shit i didnt catch that. how would 19s do? i'm guessing i would have to get a XXX/30/19? with 18x8.5 i was going for 255/35/18.

245/ 35-40/R19s on that 19x8 rim, that's what I drool over. Just major bank. Lowest I could find the R3s was like 650 each. Fuck that.

j/k, I had these powdered to match the 19" RX8 R3s and they just happened to be the same color as the 2013s seem to be. I was ahead of the curve.

@dale_gribble Are they darker in person? it almost doesnt look too much different from stock color in those pictures

They are noticeably darker. Noone is going to mistake them for stock wheels.

They do look darker in that picture. I agree, in that first picture they looked a little lighter, sunlight I guess

@Darth_Nuruodo, yeah man, it's not cheap. also, i figured a 19" wheel plus XXX/40/19 tire would be too tall, but i guess not. either way, after a lot of discussion, i'd like an 8.5" so i can get 255s on there.

@dale_gribble, well, i wouldn't say getting wheels powder coated gun metal black is in anyway shape or form being ahead of the curve...lol but they look good!

Would not be too much tire with the giant wheel wells in the pu. Just can't go as low, which isn't really a concern of mine.

you color doesn't really match the R3's.. Too light. Go KAD GTR Gunmetal like I did.

Same here. Don't care about going low, that's why I'm fine with a bigger tire in there. Just saying that stancefags might have some trouble running a 40 height tire on a 19" rim. But then they'd just camber it to hell anyway to make it fit.

why would it be a huge price change. If you configure a cx-5 i think its 1000 - 1500 more for AWD. plenty worth it in my book.

Sure it might not have the same power and such as a STI or Evo, but it for sure looks better and has a better interior

I would buy it over a evo or sti. Stock power dont mean much to me as long as it has potential for more

Yeah, no we wouldn't be competing agains evo or sti, we'd be classed with wrx and ralliart. Sorry.

think about it. now a tech package speed 3 is $26,900. add that $1,200 for awd (assuming it would be about that) and the price difference for the new HU, its probably going to be around $30,000. Why make the speed 3 that much more money when its already killing its competition, like the civics, gti's, and other cars in that class. leave the AWD to subaru and mitsu.

I still think there should be the option for awd

You'll want a minimum 9" rim for 255

@Tokay444, i'm not sure about that. when i was talking to @driver311 about it, he told me his set up. he stated:

you figure i'm fitting 235s on a 7.5", so an 8.5" fitting a 255 seems legit. absolutely the widest i would go on an 8.5" though. and he was saying on a 9" you can get up to 275s in the front, 265s in the back. of course, there are plenty of factors to take into account other than simply, "will it fit?" but from what i read, it seems the responsiveness doesn't really drop off with 255s on 8.5".

Better head....sweetness! Now we just need less smile in the front.

Minimum rim width for 235 is 8". So you're a half inch out a cross the board. That is of course going by tire manufacturer spec.
You can mount whatever you want on anything you want.

right, manufacturer spec does say that. but my 235s on the 7.5" have felt fine. but i will say, a tire like the star specs in 255 is apparently more like a 265, so some depends on the tire.

anyway, this just furthers my desire for the stock rims to come bigger. being limited (according to manufacturers spec) to 225s for this car on stockers is lame.

Thanks for posting this info. It's really making me consider waiting to pick up a MY13 over MY12 since it has everything I would want to do to a MY12 done (painted rear valance, darker wheels and the full screen nav)

One thing I noticed on the pic of the new dash is the AC controls look off, or maybe thats just because this pic was of a car without the dual climate zone controls.

Not yet. We should be getting the 13s this month. Once we do, I will post pics if they havent been already.

I like the HU, i dont want that tiny ass Nav tho. Im going to be looking to get a 13 as my first speed3 so i subbed this one. Let us know how much the HU cost, and if it is going to be part of the tech package, or if you can get it separate.
