New to MazdaSpeed3 I am new to MazdaSpeed3, I will be picking my car up Tuesday. I would like to know opinions on this vehicle in the winter time and what tires are recommended? |
My original plan was to get a WRX, knowing how expensive they are the MazdaSpeed3 was a great deal since I work at a car dealership and I'm very satisfied with the pick. |
Welcome, move to south Texas, no snow, no rust.... :) |
Unfortunately I don't live down South so the snow will have to do. I have to get snow tires and make it through the winter! |
i bought a set of blizzak lm-32 last winter and they were great in michigan Instagram |
Thank you Boatis for the tip, gonna have to look into it |
Where ya located? |
CT |
Owned several FWD cars that were similar in weight to MS3 before I went AWD and never used snow tires in Minnesota (currently snowing) and have had minimal problems as long as you have tread. Shouldn't be much different than any other compact FWD vehicle. Figuring out clutch from N to 1st will really be the only tricky part IMO as far as spinning at lights/stop signs because it is a bit heavy at first. Obviously snow tires will make life easier. |
Okay that makes me feel better then. New to standard too so that should be an adventure |
summer tires in the snow is a bad idea lol |
Haha I think I'm a little smarter then that! |
Welcome. This is the first car I've ever owned where I decided to buy winter tires. I spoke to the local MSF guys in my area and they all recommended going this route as opposed to replacing the summer performance tires with all-seasons. I bought some 17" Gen1 Mazda3 snowflake rims (all Mazda3 rims are interchangeable) off a guy on craigslist and ordered 205/50R17 winter tires for them from a tire shop (still waiting for them to come in). The smaller section will give better traction in the snow. Some people on the forums run as small as 16" rims, however, you must generally test fit them first to ensure they will clear the brake caliper. Tire track steelies are known to fit. |
That's good any tips will help since I am not familiar with this type of vehicle and winter is coming soon. Thanks |
I run 16" steelies and 205/60/16 general altimax arctic. Didn't have any issues last winter. |
This may seem like common sense but traction control in snow is a good idea if you don't want anything unexpected happening. These cars will spin like crazy in the rain if you want it to do so! Look at narrower winter tires so they can dig down closer to the road surface instead of float on top of it. |
Makes a lot of sense |
Don't be a dummy. Use winter tires if it gets below freezing and you see snow. 205/60R16 is the best size. Look for some used Mazda 3 alloys as they are lighter and stronger than steelies. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
