New muffler on warranty

Took my car in to the shop mostly because I am getting ready to order after market stuff and wanted to make there were no problems. I told them the car was running too rich. They just called me back and said Mazda is aware of the soot problem (we all are) but they have an updated muffler they want to put on my car. Anyone know anything about that?

Muffler Update?

it isn't exactly the same but you know when you are a brownie you get little slack.. Muffler Update? They said they are going to order it and let me look at it before the install it. I will take pics of it and post them up on here.

So I was wrong about there already being a thread on this. I realized this after I looked at the replacement muffler today. The muffler is different than the one on the 2012. It has about an inch wide u cut out of the bottom. maybe 2 - 3 inches long. They told me there was only 3 of them in the entire US and I got one. They will be putting it on tomorrow. After install I will take pics of it.

I think that is exactly what it is. I think they are banking on the soot dropping through the opening at the bottom instead of painting our asses like a cheap whore.

lol. b/n the soot in the ass and the fuckin brake dust on the wheels im cleaning this car all the time! cwp here so i now carry quick detailer and a microfiber rag at all times. shit builds up in like 3 days

i have a 2011. the tip of the exhaust turns black easily... this was when it was stock, after upgrading the intake to an SRI the tips aren't so black anymore.

So what exactly does that tab do in the middle of the pipe, besides the obvious if the moisture runs down the middle of the exhaust it would be designed to stop it from coming right out exhaust. Where does the tab connect to or what does bottom and back of tip look like. I think I can see light in between the tailpipe and the tailpipe garnish.

So does this actually work? I do see some new brackets on the muffler and pipes, also does it sound the same and are the heat shields on muffler less prone to catching rocks to prevent rattles?

Remember Just wash, but I bet you guy will be the first running to dealer to get new exhaust!!! My Tips work fine and I had it 8mths after so I did not have to go to crazy with washing all the time for the 27mths I've owned the car lmao.

Like Always Canada gets it last, there is no info on this part or it's existence in Canada or in the Canadian data base as a TSB. So do you have part # or warranty invoice with the new part listed? Maybe if I need replacement muffler in a couple of years I will get seems like my exhaust has gotten louder since Oct 2009.

It was not in a TSB that I know of. I was just getting ready to mod and figured I would take it to the dealership to have it checked out. I told them it was running rich and I got soot on the back of the car. The tech couldn't find anything wrong but called Mazda and they said it was a known issue and offered the muffler update. Since having the muffler change I am not getting any soot on my car.

That is really great that this update has helped you and solved your problem! Can I ask you if you received an dealer invoice with the work performed and the part number this would answer allot of questions as if this really happened or took place.

Please post copy of the invoice less all your personal details and V.I.N!! We just need to see the main section listing complaint and correction and the part number use.

^^^This. Does the 12' already come with the updated exhaust? I looke at mine yesterday and found that there was a hole on each of the muffler tips. Not the exhaust like yours does.

I put my intake and TIH on. Guess what? I noticed soot all over the back of my car. I did a bunch of pulls after install so I am not sure how much that contributed to it.

That clunk when pulling out of your driveway is the lower subframe bolts. Put an impact gun on each of them and give them a 1/8''-1/4" turn. Haven't heard that noise in over a year since doing this.

Was you couple of pulls done at operating temps? So I guess welded tips or aftermarket exhaust is best solution! Not that I did not believe u part numbers or invoices are King thanks for your info! Please keep update as to how much soot u get now compared to before? Thanks and good luck.
