New Owner (2012 CWP) Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself. Bought a new speed3 last Thursday. I've noted that a lot of you recommend changing the RMM, is that only if you plan to mod heavily? I searched and didn't really see anything explaining why/when you should do it, only that you should. I was planning on adding an intake and exhaust after it leaves warranty. Do you have to get a tune with these simple bolt-ons? Never had a turbo car. Here's a pic. http://i.imgur.com/uksBn.jpg |

Do the rmm now. It is needed regardless of other mods due to crappy oem mount. You can do an intake and exhaust now even with warranty and you do not have to tune but you will be glad if you go ahead and get and ap. |

Once I hit about 800 miles I started getting into the pedal more and if you pay attention you will notice that during 'spirited' acceleration and shifting the drivetrain is very loose and sloppy feeling in the MS3. The stock RMM allows the engine and trans to move a lot and that is what causes the sloppy rubbery feel, along with actually contributing to traction and power loss from wheel hop. Once you start to notice it, you'll even be able to feel it during normal driving, and it will probably start to annoy you. I tried the James Barone 88 Duro RMM first and found it to be a bit too much, then tried their 70 Duro and I love it. You will get more vibration transmitted through the car as you get a higher durometer rating on the bushing used in the mount. The 70 transmits a small amount of added vibration over the stock mount and with any aftermarket mounts you will notice the vibration lessens over the first few hundred miles as the bushing gets broken in. The RMM is inexpensive and is very highly recommended as the first mod by just about anyone here. Having had two of his mounts, I cannot recommend the JBR products enough, build quality on his stuff is outstanding: James Barone Racing, Custom Fabrication Good luck with the new ride and with waiting for that warranty to expire, lol. Once you dig around in here you'll be hard pressed to resist getting additional mods going. |
Great choice! What did you pay OTD? |
Are you planning to go big turbo? If so just deal with the vibs until the mount breaks in. I just got the CPe stg2 RMM in sat and its already starting to calm down. And its a beast! |
You guys are awesome. Thanks a bunch. Quote:

Then go for a 70 from JBR just spring for the trilogy pack and knock all three out at once bud. |
A tune even stock will net you some benefits, but anything that messes with air flow you'll want to get a tune for. Since this is your first turbo car, research the fuck out of it. Beware of zoom zoom boom- don't WOT in 6th gear. Oil wise: Penzoil Platinum 5w30 or Rotella T6 5w40 in the consensus around here. These cars destroy oil so don't follow the dealer stated intervals. They lie. Like a hooker saying they love you. |

I only planned on getting a short ram intake and a race pipe. But once you have that installed and you notice the gains, you'll be like "NOW WHAT?!" |
Have you tried bangin gears stock yet? If you haven't, go try it. You'll shit your pants the first time you hear that shit slam against the firewall. I have the Sure rmm, street version, better than stock, no vibes whatsoever. As for leaving it stock.......yeah I think most of us said that shit too. I'm seven payments in on mine, it's my daily....I started with the intake too, 3 months ago. Check sig. The mod bug will fuck you up. Oh and congrats on buying a speed. Especially in white you lucky bastard. |

Can't see pic, but hope that thing is tinted... And RMM is a must have regardless of stock or modded. Congrats on the car man. Have fun trying to keep it clean. ;) |
Yea, i just got the 88 duro JBR used and so far all i can say is i hope this thing breaks in xD |
Not many pearl whites out there. I almost got a pearl white but I would have gone crazy cleaning the car with the soot these cars blow over the back hatch. I ended up with a 12 liquid silver bnib a month ago. At 500 or so miles I installed the JBR 88a Rmm. At first I was like shit I have some decent vibrations going on. I drove and drove and it still seemed pretty obvious taking off from lights and random clutch vibrations after downshifting. I was like what ever its poly your suppost to feel it. I did install it with my 3/8's mac air gun so I knew everything was tight as could be. People say to go back and check it anyway (suppost to torque by hand) I did it the flat rate way and on a lift. So now im at 1,200 miles and I rechecked everything with my gun. The main bolt/nut moved a cunt hair and that was it. It may just be all in my mind now but it doesnt seem to have as many vibrations now. I have seen people say the same after re torqing but may just be in all out heads. Hope this helps!! |

Maryland law is 35%.... :D never meant anything to me for the last 3 cars I've owned. Lol only the wifeys car is legal. Been pulled over plenty of times and only had 1 cop say something. |
Congrats on the CWP! I love mine, but washing cars again sux. My last car was too old to wash anymore, got kind of lazy. I am still on the factory RMM and not all that concerned about it yet. Will probably go with the CPE piece eventually. It looks like a good (but expensive) compromise.... |
Good luck with your car picked mine up few weeks ago now its about to break 900 miles lol |
Some people say the inserts are a good compromise between vibration and control if you aren't going to do any heavy modding. link: CORKSPORT Rear Motor Mount Insert For Mazdaspeed 3 Only $35 bucks to try them |

I love the white, wish I could have found one for a decent price myself! |
Congrats, it looks just like mine! I got mine 2 weeks ago and last night I got the H&R's and Koni's in, it looks and feels much better now. This "zoom zoom boom" 6th gear WOT is really starting to worry me though, I've read a lot about it and on my old 2.0T gti I never had a worry, I'm really starting to miss my 6th gears passing abilities! |
Congrats! I got the exact same car less than 2 weeks ago on July 5th. No mods planned except for tint. |

Don't sorry about going WOT, just make sure you're not under 3000 RPM's. If you're really looking to pass, rev match and down shift in to 4th and go WOT. The car will haul ass. Thanks, Jamie |

It's my daily beater. The mod money goes into the 86 Buick T-Type that shares garage space with the MS3. |
