New Speed3 Owner Here 1 Attachment(s) Hey everyone. Picked up a 2013 S3 yesterday. It's my first Mazda but I'm not new to FI cars, modding or forums. I've looked around some and it seems like a pretty descent place. As of now my plans over time will be to add: Turbo-back exhaust from ????? (listened to some but haven't picked one out yet) CAI/SRI- Leaning toward CorkSport Stage 2 or 3 HKS SSQ BOV (call it rice if you want, don't care) Custom tune from ????? Drop it a some and throw some wheels/tires on it. I'll poke around some more and see what's what with these cars but it sure is a blast to drive. Although it's hard to compare to my last car which was a 2013 5.0 with a Paxton SC that put down 602 whp on the stock pulley. |
Uhh why the downgrade? |
Got tired of paying about $700 a month between payment, insurance and gas to only drive it about 1 week out of the entire month. I had a 91 5.0 and got tired of getting a whopping 220 miler per tank so that had to go too. But I still have my 89 Fox Coupe that I'm dropping a tiny 466ci motor in. |
welcome! nice color choise |
Thanks. They had just taken delivery of 5. 2 white, 2 black and a silver. I dug the silver but there was something wrong with the paint on the front bumper. It had a yellow hue to it and I didn't want to deal with a respray if it didn't wash off. |
Silver pu's are the fastest. |

That explains how I blew past that Prius yesterday  |
Welcome :) get fuel pump and accesport first, these two will be with you until the end. |
Same here.. Dropped my 12 5.0 fully bolted to a new speed3.. Everyone always says why downgrade.. I was paying a little over 780 for everything plus 14mpg.. I love my new speed and good color choice..same one I got..make sure you get the ap and internals first.. |
welcome, |
Thanks everyone. Yeah the 5.0 was crazy but it just cost too much to keep. I've now added a fuel pump and rear motor mount to the list. As far as internals go, I don't see myself having the $ for that or being able to have the car down for a few days just yet. And for now I think 300 whp will do and the stock internals should do just fine for that. |
By internals he means fuel pump internals (about $300). The stock pressure doesn't cut it. |

And by fuel pump he means the cam driven fuel pump or you can buy the upgraded cpe pump. Welcome! tapafuck |
Well that makes more sense now about the internals. I thought he was referring to piston and rods. So I'm taking it that the stock fuel system is the weak link with these cars? And as far as making 300 whp I will be doing more then a TBE to get that. I know my way around cars but I'm new to Mazda so whatever pointers people have are a great help. I've done: 04 Mustang GT full bolt-ons 05 SRT-4 full bolt-ons and a ported turbo 08 Titan lifted 6" and exhaust work 11 5.0 with the basic stuff 12 5.0 full exhaust, custom tuning, gears, CAI 13 5.0 with Paxton and all supporting mods I've done a couple of crotch rockets but I'm out of that stage of life now. I'm all about being safe when it comes to modding. I do a lot of research before I buy anything and know what I want out of the car before I start. If someone could point out a good guide for attaining 300whp that would be great. I looked over the thread that covered different stages but it still leaves some questions to be answered for me. We all have personal preferences so asking which exhaust, intake or tuner is the best is just going to end up with 300 different answers. But as far as tuning goes, who does custom/remote tuning with dataloging and revisions? |
Basically to get to your 300whp mark you would need full bolt ons and a good tune. Mod list below is basically what you'll need to get there (obviously choosing the manufacturer you want due to preference) There are quite a few tuners on here that will tune for a good price using the AP, gathering logs, and revise until satisfied. Good luck and enjoy! |

450hp is the new 300hp. At least in nj. Just sayin. |
So I want to give a big shout out to Nick at EdgeAutoSport for spending 45 minutes on the phone with me going over some basics. Now the first set of mods have been ordered. I got fp internal, JBR rmm and a APV3. Now I need to get some more miles on the car before I can enjoy the new tune. |
This is a man who doesn't fuck around |
LOL. I try not to when it comes to modding. But damn I hate having to think the stuff is going to sit in the box until I get some more miles on the car. I'm at about 100 miles right now and the parts will be here in a few days. Looks like I've got some driving to do. |
A lot of people will argue and debate and rationalize not needing the fp internals even though everyone tells them it's a very, very good idea to do so. You're like, nope fuck that, my brand new engine is worth $350 and an hour of my time, without hesitation |
I had over $9000 in parts on my 2013 5.0 before it even hit 500 miles. I could have spent less but I figured I would do it the right way. It would have cost that much to do a built motor if the stock one blew so I made sure I had all of the supporting mods I needed before I gave it hell. |
welcome and enjoy! lots of good info on the site |

Damn man. Just roll in here and act like it's 9-11. Just fuggin around. But seriously. Make you own thread. Now. |
So I have a 2013MSP3 and I want to run a Injen CAI, there is aftermarket shop selling a CAI for $100 but its for a 2010, is the fitment the same from 2007-2013 or only from 2010-2013? |
^ pretty sure it's the same but I'm not 100%. Maybe some senior MS3 owners can chime in. Well I started to do the fp internals today but the package was missing the retainer so the guys at Edge are getting one overnighted to me. Those guys are great. Also ordered the JBR Stage II intake the other day. It's slowly coming together. |

10-13 (genpu) Some fitment is different some is the same. Pretty sure the intakes are different. If they specify the different generations go ahead and get your gen. Tappin |
