It's hard to argue with subjective semantics, especially looks. But, I will say that at first I hated the way the GenPu looked. Now, I love it and can't wait to finally purchase one in a couple of weeks.

Wait, you are telling me, the ST looks worse then the genpu? You woke up and bumped your fuckin head this morning. The Front end of the ST is what the genpu should of looked like. Not smiling... To give you an example of our first genpu mod when they began to show up....

A striking similarity of fugly... Even the same relative color.

Lol, I don't really care either way. I like my pu. Hell, I hated it when I saw it in pictures. I hated the smile and I hated the red and black seat pattern. But then it grows on you, and the more you look at it, the more you can appreciate the body curves and shit.


Plus, when you drive it, you never see teh smile. Notice my pictures are side and back shots?

the new mazda 3's that will be coming out will have a similar front end and will be coming out with a 2.5 litter skyactive engine also, but I have heard no word on any speed 3's future.

I will admit (while preparing my anus) that I'm on the fence between the ST and the MS3 right now. Publically, Ford's done a much better job marketing the ST than Mazda does with the mazdaspeed line, so the ST has grabbed my attention a little more. However, after lurking in here a while, you guys seem to do a better job selling MS3's than the stnation guys do (except for the anus part).

So far the MS3 is by far the most fun I've had on any test drive and it annoys the hell out of me that most Ford dealers tell me that I won't even be able to test drive one unless I preorder, so there's a lot of incentive to go the MS3 route. The downside is that a lot of things that make the MS3 fun are things that will make it a tough daily driver. It at least seems like the ST ride a little easier day to day and get a few more MPG's, but until I test drive it, I can't make up my mind. So much of these cars is how they feel, so it looks like I won't be picking for a few months.

I'll need to do some more digging in the forums to see how folks feel about MS3's as daily drivers. I also keep cars a long time, so I'll need to look into reliability.

With the ms3, most of the fail has already happened, and the rest of us can reap the benefits.
I bought my 07 used and have doubled the kilometers in a year an a half and I've replaced both rear shocks. Only problem it's had.
Two 26+ hour round trips to North Carolina and never a hiccup.
I drive 160kms a day minimum highway and surface streets combined.
I can say that the weakest link (on the Genwon) is the suspension.
Could be a deciding factor for some, but for me it's not something I can't deal with.
I'm currently waiting to see some shock dyno's for some companies before I make my choice of dampers.

Here's the problem. We have smart people here because this was my requirement from the get go when I started MSF. Pioneer the platform and make it more then what was intended. All stupid people who were into cosmetics and rice were destroyed here and left to the other two failed Mazda forums to survive in.Look at them today? Graveyard. If you wanted to learn about this car and be apart of something, MSF is the place to be. Call out all bullshit from vendors and owners.


I plan to do the exact same for the Ford ST. Those other focus forums are in for a rude awakening. We know more shit about a focus st then they do and we don't even own the car. Let them fools reinvent the wheel, we will continue to advance sticky tires for ours. We created the wheel for their platform years ago. Only the smart ones with that car will be able to figure that out.

I got into contact with Ford last week and although registration was full for their focus st event in Los Angeles, they reserved a spot for me and are expecting me on the 11th with a reserved appointment to drive and photograph their car. That should tell you something. People feel MSF is a small forum, but the analytics I get daily show this forum as heavily watched by a lot of people and companies. This is credited to the type of people on this forum and how our agenda remains strict. Idiots don't last here. Nator is a prime example of teaching people about this car and helping each other out. Visit other forums... You won't see this type of bond and friendship among owners like we have.

I never understood the tough daily driver argument. I daily drive this and find it the best out of all cars I've owned hands down. Sure the suspension isn't a Buick, but its not race car stiff either. IMO, it strikes the medium perfectly and isn't nearly as stiff as my previous 2009 lancer gts.

Reliability will vary on things such as mods if you do, tuning, tracking etc. If you leave it stock, then that's your best chance to have stellar reliability. So far these cars have been reliable especially compared to the GTI lulz

Whats marketing do honestly? Boost up the price. Im glad that its not a major sales pitch around here to sell because every swing dick ricer is gonna want it. And also daily driver shit RAtarded, you gonna by a compact sports car for mpg's? Might as well by a honda.... by the way im getting 28avg mpgs hwy and 25 city...

What exactly makes the MS3 a tough daily driver? I find the car pretty tame when driving it easy - it's comfortable and pretty good on gas when rolling back and forth to work. It might not be as smooth or refined as a GTI or the upcoming ST, but it's cheaper, more powerful out of the box, has a very rugged/proven drivetrain, aftermarket parts are plentiful and cheap, and the modding learning curve is nonexistent.

Biggest thing is price, new MS3 without tech can be gotten for $22k, at least where I live. I kind of doubt the ST will sell anywhere near that cheap at first, especially if demand does turn out to be high for the car and they don't deliver enough of them to dealerships.

And as for mpg's - once you have a turbo car you will likely stop giving a shit, because while you might be able to squeeze good mileage from it driving like a grandma that gas pedal just begs to get pushed.

Ha. I like that and think you're absolutely right. Within 5 minutes of driving i'd be turning from the gas gauge to the boost gauge.

On the daily driver point, I think captobvious nailed it. That's exactly the feedback I was looking for. Agree with the lancer comment, so given that i've had 15 minutes total in the MS3 on a test drive, I was wondering long term where the car stands on day to day ride

I have no complaints about the car as a daily other than the same comment that is true for all manual transmission cars: it's slightly irritating in stop-and-go traffic jam. But luckily the go part of that is so much fun that you forget about it as soon as the road opens up.
