No owners manual need help

Whats up guys. I am new to the fourm and a happy new owner of a 2010 speed3. The only thing is that my dump ass dealership lost the owners manual and they still havent gotten me a replacement yet. I am about to do my first oil change and need to know how much oil to put back into the engine. Also the oil cap says 5w30 but didnt know if anyone was running anything different? Thanks for the help.. Now go blow something up... Its july 4th

takes about 6 qts my good man. Donate to the forum and youd have access to the VIP section including our car's shop manual. Easily worth $10 in itself and thats definitely not the only perk.

5w30 is the recommended oil some guys use 5w40 if they have smoke issues

Mine likes about 5.75 quarts. So I usually put 6 in

Mine takes about 5.5, 6 is past the full mark on the stick. I run Pennzoil Platinum 5-30.

But i thought 6 quarts was the specs on the oil pan capacity not the recamended amount for oil changes??

mazdaspdmike 07-03-2011 07:35 PM

oil change with filter = ~6 qts. if your car is stock its most likely gonna be burning some oil, dont question us, youre the brownie here. donate and search and youll find the answers to your questions.

Service manual says 6, it's usually gonna overfill it since the OE filter is larger then most others. Even the new Mazda part # is smaller then the one that came on it from the factory. 5.5-5.75 is FULL on most '10-'11 Speed3's. Remember the Gen 2's don't have the cartridges of the Gen 1 too.

Get one more, and don't use Mobil 1 again, not the best stuff for our DI engines. Use Pennzoil Platinum or Shell Rotella.

And yes, PayPal.

Use this oil.

5 litres will get it to the halfway mark. I think that's enough and it's better than being too full and blowing the seals right? No body likes the smell of burning oil.

Why is the Rotella better than Mobil1 in this application? I know to use Rotella when breaking in a GM LS engine, but then switch to Mobil1 or German Castrol afterwards.

Mobil 1 sucks in LSx's too. I have a fully modded LS1, used Mobil 1 for the first few years and switched to Castrol or Pennzoil on my cam builders advice. I know some 30 LSx owners, none like Mobil 1 anymore.

Check out this website. It looks like its byes to amsoil but it has real number in there testing.. Synthetic oil reviews

Elusivellama 07-04-2011 10:34 AM

Amsoil or its dealers own these sites. You can usually recognize them by the use of the words 'synthetic' in combination with 'ultimate', 'review', 'best', 'supreme' etc. It always begins with a comparison of Amsoil vs other brands, followed by rants, heartfelt outbursts, testimonials, secret handshakes, denouncements of other motor oil brands, and ending up with statements containing part fact, part fiction.

Good oil...but the marketing and tactics in product placement/labeling insult the intelligence.

wette460 07-04-2011 10:45 AM

Wow, this went to owners manual to oil thread really quick. Oh well!

I use Amsoil and w/ new filter 5.5-5.7 works perfectly.

Thanks for your help guys... The car took about 5.6 qts

Good to hear you got the right amount. I use Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 myself.

But why did you sell the Speed Protege??? That would have made a nice limited edition classic in a few years!!! LOL

Needed the extra money from having no car payments since I had a second car paid off. I had just bought the house and was getting married in a year. But looking back I wish I had made it work some how. I loved that car. It had it's issues but nothing that couldn't be fixed by now. I have a pic somewhere..
