Default One month in

One month since I picked up the MS3 and I couldn't be happier. Without a doubt this has to be the best bang for the buck platform.
1. Even completely stock It's quick and handle like its on rails.
2. It's a true sleeper. Theres a fellow at work with a newer M3 that drives it pretty hard and happens to get off from work the same time as I do. I followed him onto the freeway the other day and as usual he stood on it jumped into the fast lane and settled in a about 80 mph. I held back for a while and the dropped a gear took it up to 120mph and blew by him. not really a race just a fly by and I'm sure head to head he could take me, but the next day he made a point of stopping me in the hall and inquiring what had I done to my mazda 3 ( didn't realize it was a speed) when I told him nothing and how much I paid for it he shit a brick.
3. Found out last week I'm located about a mile and a half from corksport. made a trip down there and talked to one of there sales guys for a good hour. let the mod's begin.
4. Spoke with the dealer I got it from on there take on mod's. Turns out they buy install stuff from corksport. So they seam real mod friendly.
5. Qualitys seams good.

So next weekend the paint both is open a my sons shop and we be doing a few cosmetic mods Paint the rear lower valance, next mod spliter, and foglight bezels flat black

Then order or powder coat the wheels darker. Internal mods will start with a Corksport SRI and TIP, race pipe, oil catch can, and do some thing with the motor mounts.

Bottom line is I love the thing.

Now suddenly the wife has made a appointment to get a intake and ARP stage one tune on the MK6 GTI. LOL

Yes, do not forget the mods lilred mentioned. They are the most important things you will need if you expect to gain any true power out of this car.

Glad you like the car and you are definitely on the right path. I think everyone here would agree that if you're looking for more power and you drive hard, the rear motor mount and the HPFP internals are first on the mod list.

Congrats. I'm a little over two months in on my 12 ms3 and couldn't be happier as well. Brings a smile to my face every time I get behind the wheel. Like the above posters have said before, make sure HPFP internals and AP top the mods list.

Thats my plan to DIY all the stuff. It just made a great lead in when I spoke to the dealer about mods. Me "So I hear you guys buy and install stuff from Corksport" Service guy said "Yah they make some great stuff, heres our list of what they carry" ME "So it won't hurt my warranty if I throw on a few Items myself" Dealer "No we've never had a problem using there stuff and if you like the parts guys can order it for you, I'm pretty sure we sell at the same price they do" Me "Thanks you've been a lot of help, can I have one of your business cards" LOL

Fixed it for ya.

Lol just kidding. Glad you like the car. Everyone here at MSF surely does (gen one, two, and MS6 arguments aside).

You know how all the auto magazines say how torque steer is sooooo bad in this car. Fuck em. I say if that's the worst thing that can be said about these cars then yay! Use both hands on wheel and grip, problem solved. I even read one report that said that one of the car's problems is that it has too much power. Faggots.

Now, if you add an AP, CDFP internals, and an intake (the three best bang for your buck upgrades and needed to move forward with hopping the car up anymore) you will then add about 35whp and 40lbs/ft of torque at the wheels (and even more because 1st and 2nd gear become un-neutered). Then using the free ATR program either tweak the OTS map for 18psi, add about 4-5* of spark advance (timing), etc. or get an etune, and you pick up even more for a total of about 45whp and over 100 lbs/ft gain at the wheels. At that point you will have about 375-400 reliable lbs/ft of torque at the crankshaft at about 3,250 rpms. THEN we can legitimately talk torque steer and "tire wear" :-)

Again congrats and welcome to MSF.

Yes your right. I really think all the reviews in the magazines etc referring to the torque steer are way over the top, and if they did a more through long term test I think they would realize this.

I think I'll go with your recommodations on a starting point for my mod's. AP, CDFP internals, and an intake most likely a cork sport SRI with the TIP. Do you think the Corksport non-catalyst race pipe is worth throwing into the mix for this first go around?

Still need to figure out what to do about the rear motor mount. Corksport makes some inserts the go inside your stock mount or a complete replacement not to mention the sea of other manufactures offerings. hoping to find something that won't translate to much vibration into the cab while keep the motor where it belongs.

Yeah, it takes some getting use to, but really its not that big of a deal. I went from all over the road ---> staying in my lane with both hand on the wheel ---> full accel around a turn with 1 hand on the wheel.

Just gotta man up and tame the beast.

Still need to figure out what to do about the rear motor mount. Personally, I would get a real RMM, not just inserts. And vibes are something just about everyone learns to love. Regardless, after a couple months of it being on the car, it will die down a LOT. So if you get something like the JBR 88, which I would recommend $:quality, give it some time on the car before you say the vibes are too intense. If you really want less vibes and have the money to pay, my CP-e is very comfortable. And I just road in a car that had all the CP-e mounts; it was butter smooth and vibrated no more than my single mount.

Chances are you'll be like "racecar!" and give 0 fucks after you feel it.

Still need to figure out what to do about the rear motor mount.
AP, CDFP, Intake/TIP, RMM, and the catless race pipe (test pipe) are great starting points. I like SUREmotorsports RMM it feels great. Throw in the race pipe now as well! The AP will allow you to watch what is going on and if you need to get something looked at.

Still need to figure out what to do about the rear motor mount. Corksport makes some inserts the go inside your stock mount or a complete replacement not to mention the sea of other manufactures offerings. hoping to find something that won't translate to much vibration into the cab while keep the motor where it belongs.

I purchased a OBX (eBay) test pipe along with my fuel pump internals. In reality, it's just a straight pipe. I don't believe one test pipe to another will gain you any more/less hp. I def noticed a deeper tone but not obnoxiously loud or anything like that.

As far as the rear motor mount I have the inserts. My car only had 12k when I started modding so I didn't want to throw away a perfectly fine RMM. In cabin vibration isn't too harsh but the vehile definately feels 100% better.

Stop by the shop and I can take you for a ride in our 2010 speed with with the inserts if you want to see how they feel for vibrations.

Thanks Derrick I'll probably stop by and take you up on that since you're about a mile and a half from home.

Just call first so I can make sure the car is in 1 piece. We do a lot of development work on it.
