overfilled oil last time i changed my oil i did so on ramps. level on the dipstick looked good, forgot to account for angle (DOH). check today, roughly 1.5k later, and the oil is up to the A in MAX. do i haz problems? roommate left for the weekend with his car parked on the only flat ground so i cant get back under it to drain. |
That amount of overfill is likely fine. The engineers would build in a little buffer zone into the dip stick for sure. I mean its not a calibrated piece of measuring equipment or anything. Always best to have the fill level slightly below the "full" line though. |
on a side note, the dealership I purchased my car from had a deal where as long as I get all my maintenance done there I would get free oil changes for life. Sounded great, but in reality the dealership is a conglomeration of a bunch of idiots who really know nothing about cars. They filled it with 5w-20 and over filled it by about 1 quart. That was the last time I let them touch the car. Went back a month or two later because of a strong antifreeze smell and while I was there I asked if they knew what size wheels would fit because winter was coming. They told me over and over again that no matter what, only 18 inch wheels would fit the car. Ughhh... stealerships are retarded. Just be glad you're doing your own oil change, no matter what, you're doin a better job then they likely would. |
If you start to get a misfire code, that'll be why. Sucked oil into the IM and fouled a plug. If not, it may likely burn off. |

I always add 5.5 qts and the level is just fine. Just reference for next time. |
I did the same. I checked my oil on a warm engine which gave me a false oil stick level. I thought my oil level was low, so i added more oil. Eventually, my oil was pass the max line. Let us know if your engine will be fine after 5000 miles. |
i put 8 qrts in and i'm just fine. |
just put in what the manual says and dont worry about it i always put in exactly 6 quarts just as the manual says and sometimes it is higher sometimes lower on a side note speed what spin on are you using? |
I put in 5 qts and it's a hair below 1/2 of the check marks....just where I want it. I ran my car for a bit with the oil over filled thanks to a local oil change company, now I just do it myself. My overfill was at 1600 miles, car is now at 8300 with no known issues as a result. It was overfilled for approx 1500 miles and mine was also at the 'a' in max coincidentally. @foodtime You are supposed to check it warm, but after it has sat for 10-15 minutes and all the oil has settled. |

but I need 8 qrts cause I have no balance shaft.. you can imagine my oil changes are expensive. |

last time I was there they couldn't find a leak in my tire until I walked over, looked at it myself showed them and told them I would repair it myself. They proceed to repair it anyway and try to charge me 30 bucks. I tell them take it out then. Ended up leaving with it done for free. dealerships are the most retarded people I have ever met |
Drive the car, stop, pull the dip stick and check for foam. No foam you're fine. Foam, drain some NOW! |

I need to find a different dealer in the event I need some warranty work done (knock on wood, 21000 mi and not a single problem). |
Over fill on oil can destroy your cats and cause foaming inside the engine |
And foul plugs and create misfires. |
and make you lose your wood |
