my ko4 was put through absolute hell for 30k miles and it is in perfect shape. just took it out on a turbo swap and everything is sound. i was running 22 psi with 100% wgdc at 4600rpms. some ko4s suck some dont. as you can see his was replaced under warranty so no biggie

Not on a turbo, no break in period that I've ever heard of.

Well here is another update. The dealer just gave me a call, told me they had to replace a valve. The person who called wasn't sure which one, but I assume it's cylinder 1 because I did get a light for a misfire.

Sounds like they replaced the turbo and its still smoking.

Not sure why they'd replace a valve with that much smoke pouring out.

Not sure how they came upon the valve, never asked.

But they replaced the turbo last week and they said when going for a test ride, the mechanic heard an abnormal sound coming from the turbo. The replacement turbo had something internally wrong with it. So now they are waiting on the replacement to the replacement.

Interesting... I am interested to see the outcome of this one. That volume of smoke still makes me a little queasy. LOL.

I'm seriously considering driving right over to the mazda showroom as soon as I get it back to get a 13 with tech. Who knows what else is wrong internally.

If the finances make sense....

You get the fancy touchscreen. The cool blacked out wheels and mirrors. One of the locals here has one. I'm pretty jealous.


My one big complaint is that all the screens don't make any sense. The nav/info screen is lame on the new ones because they moved some of the functions to the touchscreen. Its clearly a "filler" update to bridge the gap between this year model and a completely revamped interior.

I'll probably make about 2000-3000 on the trade in, just a thought right now. Let's see what happens when I finally get it back.

I also did pay, I believe, 2000 for an extended warranty. That is completely worthless to me now. I mine as well try and get money back for that.
