P0302 misfire... Ok so here the scoop. Car has 4,800 miles on it... went on a three hour trip today and i have been running my mods and new map for about 1,500 miles no problems at all. Then was getting a lot of shutter on the way home to the point where it actully stalled out when going 70mph. then pulled to the side and had to have it towed to mazda since it would start then stall out and give the p0302 misfire code. btw its not my fuel pump i was watching the numbers the whole time. Any words of advice? things mazda dealer might say it could be? |
Can't see mods from tapafail, but if you have step colder plugs, I would check those first. Freekn tappin |
GL with dealer I know if I went to mine with mods it would cost more than getting it towed to my place first, then the dealer after I stocked out |

@gitarpik - im hoping if they dont cover it then its not to much. i dont mind spending a little cash on getting the car to run correctly. but for now i just dont understand with low milage what could be that wrong to stop the car from moving |
UPDATE: Mazda will be covering an damages under the warranty.....But this is no part or anything wrong with the car. This was gas from a shell station in hagerstown. The dealer has flushed the gas and put in WAWA gas and the car has no stutter and that the gas was the issue. It was 93 gas for sure as well. Did the math the receipt was the 93 octane. Picking up the car on tuesday.... Shell better be ready for the wrath to be brought upon them. |
Shell sucks on the east coast. This is just another case of Shell poop gas. Phate likes shell where he lives though so go figure. Shell makes my car idle noticeably rough. Did I mention I hate Shell gas? |
lol now my next question..... what gas is good gas? |

I had to get shell 1 time... i guess i will avoid it like the plague now Usually I get exxon/mobile since thats the closest thing to my apt and work Did the dealer mention anything about your mods at all? |

start putting in exxon or if you dont see a exxon, go with sunoco. NEVER PUT IN WAWA GAS! |
I used shell before too in Canada and miss fire started to happen. Took it to dealer they replaced all plugs ignition coils and all injectors and egr valve. They also cleaned my entire intake manifold and throttle body as much as they could. Started to fill husky E10 car runs solid now. Also shell was 91 while husky is 94 |
this shell was v power 93 and when looking into the issue the dealer said that it does not require that. they said changed the gas and flushed the tank and all was well. |
ok so here is the new thing car was running fine after the new gas was put in. then went WOT in first gear and lots of black smoke came out didnt sound good let off and knock retard ran 6.0 then was like WTH is going on . went in 3rd gear WOT and about at 4.5k or so the car stuttered a little for a breif second tiny bit of smoke then was fine checked the knock retard and theres another knock this one at 3.0 please help :( |

any weird behavior at idle? I'm nub, but if your getting that much early detonation, timing seems bad If this was me, I would stock out and go to dealer |
yeah, stock out and let the dealer deal. way too early for shit like this to be happening.. what color smoke? maybe your turbo is dying and your knock sensor is sad about it. |

Ok thanks for the replys guya. Here is the update . Car was producing black smoke which means burning gas. I was unable to stock out the car let me sit again and.had to tow it to mazda dealer. Car has intake and tip and autotech internals. I took my cobb with me and deflashed it before I left. He drove it amd he cant get it to stutter? Could it be the cobb? Oh You Mad? It's Just Tapatalk |

I doubt its the AP, are you running OTS or custom map when its paired? The OTS map just changes boost, and conservatively changes timing/fueling, so that should not be the problem. There is a thread about hesiation/lag/stuttering caused by AP's, but it was supposedly fixed in a recent AP firmware update and ATR update - make sure you update your shit, and re-save your custom map (if you have one) to the AP, then flash to car and see what happens |
P0302 Ok got this code P0302 under acceleration during 3rd wot log. checked the plugs fine check coils fine. I did a compression test this morning from right to left cylinder 1 150 cylinder 2 150 cylinder 3 120 and cylinder 4 150. I did not check the injectors yet just trying to clarify P0302 means the second cylinder from right to left or is it saying second in the firing order |
Dead thread revival. Awesome... Try swapping the coil packs for the middle two cylinders, and see if the code changes. |

As others have said, it's left to right. Your cylinder that has low compression has the misfire. Should be no surprise there. How's your oil consumption? Were the plugs clean when you pulled them? |
I too have the dreaded 0302 code. No mods. Swapped coils and still 0302. NGK Iridium OEM heat range plugs gapped .030, about 6mo old. Compression check: 180 in all cyl. Ran 1 bottle of the standard Lucas injector cleaner, no change. Could certainly try more doses. Occasionally, the CEL will go out, but then come back on after a few startups. Thought it might have been crap gas, I won't say from where, so I got a several fill-ups with BP but no change. I guess swapping injectors is next...? I've only had the car for about 8k miles. Difficult to say if any injectors or seals have ever been replaced. |

Various times. Sometimes I feel a hesitation around 2700, other times it's post gear shift, and sometimes it's accelerating onto the freeway above 3k. I'm saving up for either VT or a used APv3 w/ATR so I can get some decent logs. |
Should also mention it's only during mid to heavy throttle. But I can't always replicate the 2700rpm hesitation on demand. Sometimes the hesitations are intense with black smoke, sometimes it just doesnt "feel" like smooth acceleration. And all is fine when I drive like a grandma. Vac/Boost leak test is on my to-do list. When I had a crappily working Bluetooth adapter, fuel pressure looked good. It took a trip thru the washing machine and dryer...so I threw it in the trash. Lol. It didn't function that we'll anyways. |
You think Shell gas is bad. Everything in California sucks. 91 at best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Make sure all of your vacuum and intake connections are tight. |

Get a fucking avatar too man. Giving Chris's everywhere a bad name. |
I wonder if you give other members shit about the one line welcomes to new members like so many others have done. I have been in the racing industry since the mid 70's and even though I haven't touched many motors in the last 10 years but when you get to over 200 racing engines built under your belt let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I'm surprised all those years in the racing industry hasn't thickened your skin much. All the same, welcome to the Thunderdome. |

Old-man strength is supposed to guard against butthurt. Cmon man. |
Heart is just fine!!!! Even when racing my 93 RX7 twin turbo at 185 at Auto Club Speedway. |
I remember the days when my 88 RX7 would do 160. But that was easily trumped multiple times by my GSXR1000 where the speedo stopped working after 186mph (300kph). So I'm not sure how fast I was going down those two lane back roads in south Georgia with 1/2 as many wheels and protection that might as well have been paper mache' because no helmet or any amount of leather would protect me from a tree. Oh sorry, I thought this was turning into a pissing match. I digress. |
