Performance cars that don't perform

Had a discussion with some buddies. What's the point of getting performance cars like /ms3/sti/evo/mustang,mod them and then never race/auto x/dragstrip? Just seems like a waste of money and never being able to actually enjoy the car for what's it's meant to be.

Some people just like to tinker, or make them sound/look better, but don't necessarily care to beat on their cars. It's a hobby just like anything else, you have casual enthusiasts and passionate enthusiasts.

As the guys mentioned it's a hobby for most. Like I tell the wif it's better I play in my own garage than at the strip clubs or in some other chicks pants. As far as racing (track, autoX or drags) those are fun and all but unless your life revolves around racing there's no need for a hobby to be based on it. Building a quick car can be simply because one enjoys twisty roads and likes to go fast. I won't touch the "stance" thing becasue I don't understand it.

I agree with the above statements, I tell my wife the same thing it's better for me to be at home working on the car then making it rain at the strip club. Plus I just like working on cars mine or helping someone with there's.

The aforementioned cars all are fun drivers period. It's not a coincidence that fun track cars are fun street cars that are usually visually attractive.

Mine is my DD. It makes me happy driving it daily. Even If I am going the speed limit or not in the curves. The torque acceleration is like crack.

I don't plan doing much autox and might do the strip for gigles. Like others had said. I just enjoy tinkering and driving it. I actually considered doing a DD beater but I decided I would rather just enjoy the car then park in fear of wear.

So I guess in short, I don't think it's a waste to buy one and not go crazy with it. I'm faster than 75% on the road daily. Just knowing that is enough for me, even if i don't prove it daily at the strip...

All points are valid. I am not a fan of dragging it either but maybe a few auto x a year and a bunch of highway pulls. It's also my daily, I just feel like spending so much money on something that won't be used 99% of the time is useless.

Point is why get a front mount for $1100 and never ever use it to its potential. Point is why dump 4-8k in mods and never race/auto x/drag when a much more comfortable ride could be had. It's your money do what you want, I am just curious on people opinions.

It's worth it anytime you hit the gas. I don't go wot much during the week but that one time traffic clearly and I have a option for some WOT, it's worth every penny.

I beat on my car relentlessly, the old gal seems to love it too. My favorite way to punish her is spend 3 days at Deals Gap (Tail of the Dragon) sinking in the spurs. Nothing more fun than blasting up and down the Dragon in 3rd gear at 5,000 rpm. It's what this car was meant to do. I don't do appearance mods and have 16" wheels on the car in 4x4 mod, as the kids call it.

You guys are missing what I am saying. I am all for modding and fast/cool cars...my point is why mod with go fast parts if you'll never race or get on it once in a while (I know people like that) their excuse is that they don't want to abuse the car or feel bad floor it.

Every MS3 deserves to be taken to an autox (or better yet, a track day) at least once in its life, preferably much more than that. This is a car with limits that are too high to explore safely on the street IMO. If all you do are highway pulls, you are missing out on so much of what this car is about, and if all you're doing is DDing to work, there are probably more comfortable and economical alternatives out there.

same reasons 75 year old guys by vettes, same reason the rich guys by these 100K cars to take to work everyday. everyone has different things that appeal to them.
i would rather the guy by a sti/evo and put in go fast parts and drive normal, than the HS kids put loud ass lawnmower exhaust on their non si civics and do neutral drops at stop signs.
