| Not Ranked : 0 score Because it's more fun to drive...does there need to be any other reason? I can't imagine how bloody boring it would be to drive a prius back and forth to work. At least in the speed 3 I can usually get a bit of 2nd or 3rd gear boost to put a smile on my face and brighten up my day.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Yeah, I got it back when I had a 20 mile commute to the suburbs. At my current job, I've got the option of taking a train, so I only end up driving 2-3 days a week, which is ok by me as commuting miles are generally junk miles if you live within 50 miles of NYC. Still, I see everything from sport compacts to exotics on a regular basis on the roads around here, so it isn't necessarily a deterrent to ownership. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score LOL at performance car. My car is an economy car that performs better and looks better than the average economy car....which is what I wanted, and nothing more. If I wanted a car that burns up the drag strip or the autox, I may have bought something else.

We could be talking about a Fiat Panda. The op is asking why people modify cars with go fast parts if they are not going to use their car for some level of competition. Doesn't matter how fast or slow the car actually is. Only two requisites are that you dont race, and that you spend a lot on parts.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Oh I understand what you are saying. Its just kind of silly. Its like me buying an ar15 and someone saying its a waste because I haven't killed anyone with it. Its a waste of energy trying to understand peoples reasonings. A lot of the time its just something that makes them happy in one way or another. Nothing more, nothing less.

Some guys enjoy sleeping with dudes, personally I don't. Im sure they have a hell of a good time doing it anyway. Your whole argument annoys me as its entirely predicated on your opinion with no regards that others may vary in their own thoughts.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I have these thoughts that I fight in my head a lot. These car's are pretty damn fast with e85 on the k04. It sucks not being able to use them to their full potential. I have a 1.5 mile commute to work daily, so I barely drive it most of the week. I surely don't take it to Auto-X or a road course and hardly drag it. Thing is I enjoy it when I give it the beans, even though it's pointless and worrying about cops when I do. It's just good to know I have a pretty fast little car for little money. I would love to go further with it but I'm 50/50 on it right now. I ultimately want a project car/whore I can run on a road course without worrying about breaking shit and missing work. Right now it's reliable and fast. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Also, it is much more satisfying, when cut off by an idiot, to quickly down shift, move over a lane, and blow past him with your exhaust roaring off his windows instead of trying to scuttle by him without a peep. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score How can you guys be so innocent? To move the car quickly within the legal speed limits you don't need more than like 80bhp/ton. And I said "quickly" because if you just need to move it all you need are 50-60bhp/ton, it doesn't matter if you get to 80mph in 8 seconds or in 80, because the trip will be significantly longer than that anyway. So let's say a 100-150bhp 3200-3500pounds wagon/limo is all you need for the daily commute, to get to the mall with the kids/family, and so on. So why are we buying a 3300pounds 260bhp car in the first place? Because VANITY!! Why are we tuning it and increasing the power even more? Because MORE VANITY! And for fun! And for fun an vanity, to see the eyes of BMW M3 owners popping out and hitting the windshield when they can barely keep up on twisty roads and be left far behind every time they are caught in the wrong gear. There are no tracks in the area I live. Actually in this country all the circuits are for go karts and one for motorcycles. the closest real circuit in at 10-12 hours of driving in Hungary. There are a few drag racing events over the year which I do not attend because I don't have time and because I prepared my car to be fast on the street, while in a drag race I'd have my ass beaten up pretty hard by 300+bhp cars with slicks and weighting no more than a ton, with full sequential transmission, hard and buzzy motor mounts, and so on. I prepared my car to be fast on the road, with what I can find on the road. I didn't even want to add a meth kit just because I can't find meth here legally, not to speak in shops on the side of the road or in gas stations. So yeah, I bought a performance car for fun and because of my vanity, I could have bought the same reliable and indestructible Mazda 3 BK for half the money with a 1.6 litre engine and 105bhp. And then I started to tune it for even more fun on the road and for even more vanity throwing again the money for another Mazda 3 BK 1.6i to my Mazdaspeed so that I can have fun when there's no traffic on the public roads, I can overtake safely and quickly without the other people even noticing they were overtaken. I enjoy taking corners hard, doing skids and figure eights in private parking lots and taking off before the cops will ask me WTF am I doing with a kid on the back seat and why is she laughing and what exactly does she want more and more and again, and so on. And then we get back on the road, long trips, and do a lot of other over takings, and grow even more of our vanity. I mean, if you were a BMW 335 or even M3, Porsche Chayenne, cayman, or whatever is considered fast on the road these days, and while at full throttle be left in a cloud of dust by a family hatchback with this on the rear window: ![]() ![]() ...how would you feel? Would you feel like trying to get back in front? Of course, and then eat even more of my dust! And again, and again, until your 4-5 litre engine will run out of gas and my little 2.3 turbo charged will still go fast for 70-100 more miles! I don't have a big dick nor big balls, and if I did I don't really know what I'd do with them other than making fun of the even less people with even larger balls and longer dicks than mine. So I bought a fast car and made it even faster without tracking it, but fully enjoying it on the street for my personal joy and... vanity. Call if officially however you want, but this is no sanity, this is passion, joy and vanity. This is what drives the humanity: sex, food and the feeling of joy and superiority over the others (so vanity). Now let's take the world further, I need to talk to my tuner to provide me with even more horse power and to my vendors to provide me with even more useless parts which will eventually add more power.

You also imply that mods are only put to use when racing/showing? So, by your logic, driving around town (as most of us here do) you can't enjoy the extra power/acceleration of even basic bolt ons with a tune? Or even the way those mods might make a car sound, look or feel? To NOT enjoy these aspects of modifying a car is to inherently NOT love cars in general. I guess I can see your point when someone puts Ohlins or Penske coilovers on their street car or drives around the street on a set of R-compounds that may last 2-3k before they are shot...but most of us are just doin bolt-ons because they make the car look/sound/go in a way that is more fun than stock.
