Piece of metal found in throttle body 3 Attachment(s) Last night at work, my car went in to limp mode suddenly. I checked the codes and it was showing p2100 for the throttle actuator plate open. This afternoon, I pulled things apart expecting to at least have to clean the throttle body. What I found was the pictured piece of metal wedged between the throttle plate and the housing. Luckily, it stopped there. I also noticed a similar smaller piece sitting on the valve cover. Anyone have any idea what it could be? Maybe a piece from the inter-cooler? I am running a CPE TMIC. |
appears to be non-ferrous, does a magnet stick to it? looks like melted metal/solder/welding artifact because of somewhat flat under but rounded/liquid appearance top... lucky that didn’t get past your throttle, I doubt it came through the turbo so BPV or intercooler would be where I would look, I wouldn’t run anything until you’ve cleaned/checked both... |
Looks like it could be a casting remnant from inside the intercooler end tank. Had it made it past the TB, I doubt it would ever make it out of the intake manifold given its size/mass. |
I checked it and it definitely does not stick to a magnet. It also bends easily. I checked everything before putting it back together; I even went ahead and cleaned the throttle body while I was at it. I ran it around for a bit and it seems fine now. I am just worried about where the hell that piece came from and are there any more to come. I am leaning toward something from the IC; it makes the most sense. |
If you want to be safe, you could probably take something like decent size (1/2") ball bearings and shake them around in the end tank to knock any remaining pieces out. Just make sure you get out the same amount you put in. |
Sounds like a plan. I did give it a good shaking before putting it back on, and I did not hear anything loose inside. If I can find some ball bearings, I will try that to be safe. |

Definitely had the Spy Hunter smoke screen going! |
1 Attachment(s) Attached a file for you to get familiar with what we'll be doing this weekend. Consult the how-to BNR S3 pictorials for reference, not much difference other than no MAP change, and we'll be swapping your boost controller to the replacement K04. |
Cool, I have read it and will read it again and again some more over this week. Hopefully, it will not rain! |
