Be sure to participate in Nator meets - you'll find local Speed owners that know WTF they are doing and will pass that knowledge on to you, and before you know it, you'll have made some new friends and lost that fear of wrenching on shit that looks scary.

Congrats on the decked out ride!

thanks man! im so glad everyones giving me such positive words! And yea at first i was really worried, but it ended up being a steal!!! Im so pumped! And yeah! im alredy getting active in this community as well as my local nators. Before we dip too far away from MSF customs of saying "search noob!", I'll give you some abbreviated info...

E85 gives you greater octane with a minor penalty in the amount of fuel you have available and fuel mileage - so you can push a little more boost and a lot more timing, which equals power. This requires a tune, period. You'll learn who the reputable people are.

A compression test will tell you the condition of your piston rings. Once they have failed, your motor is toast, so it's vital. Unfortunately you weren't a member here before making the purchase, or you would've gotten a really nice checklist in your welcome PM. You're looking for consistent numbers across all 4 cylinders (within 10%) and above 150psi on most gauges.

If you need to find some specific information, use Google and this format:

site:mazdaspeedforums.org how to compression test

The results are pretty easy to comb through

E85 is just gasoline that is 85% ethanol rather than the usual ~10%. You know those fords that say flex fuel on a badge - theoretically they can run on anything between pure regular gasoline and e85. The government decided at some point it was a way to gain more energy independence because the ethanol can be made from corn. That's kind of gone now with the shale oil and all. Plenty more could be said... Search noob. In this case you might want to search the wider Internets as well as MSF.

I just checked and unfortunately there are no E85 stations in NH as far as I can tell, however, I found a few places that sell Sunoco race fuels, so he might be able to get his hands on some methanol. I started doing in-tank methanol this week (I've been talking via PM to a guy who's experienced with it). Use a fuel density of 0.7482 and injector scalar of 1.08 in ATR, toss two gallons of methanol in and fill up the rest with 93. Should be about equivalent to 3 gallons of E85, conservatively.

Am I the only one who misses the old sink or swim style of MSF?

Oh it is still here. People who come in hot get checked right away and put in their place. We just have a lot more willing to help new people now.

lmao thanks for the info guys. Ill stop asking questions on here, and start searching.

Also, i found out i have a corksport DP, and not a full exhaust. The rest of exhaust apperently is stock? i had a fellow nator look and he said it looked like just the dp was changed.

Gnarland 06-13-2015 12:04 PM

Hey guys i wanted to ask for everyones opinion as well on a good OTS map to run, untill i get a custom tune. As of now (you all probably know) I have a synapse BOV/BPV set in BPV mode. I have a corksport short ram intake, a CS DP, a CS RMM, and a CS shortshift plate. Now as of now, i finally have my AP in hand and im using a OTS stage2 + mode. I wanted to know if its a better idea to just go to Corksports website and get there stage 2 tune? or should i run the stage 1 tune? I just would like some fellow input ! thanks again guys!

Also im sorry, its the Corksport long catted downpipe!

You didn't mention a TIP which I bet you have... Figure that out first. You can run the Cobb OTS maps and would be OK but an OTS or OTS+ from either of the two sponsor tuners would be better / safer / more driveable and doesn't cost very much.

PM me your email address and I will send you all of the CORKSPORT tunes that were done with the help of Cobb.

edit: i withdraw my previous comment. didn't realize worbit was offering every tune from corksport. for some reason those don't appear to be available on corksport's site, only the stage II tunes.

Ayerspeed 06-13-2015 09:02 PM

If you go on Cobbs website all of the old maps are archived. You can still run them. Get access port manager and access tune race. You need to open the old map in access tune race and then resave it to clear up some issues, I believe with logging. Then load the newly saved maps to your AP then flash to your car. Sounds like a lot but it's all simple shit.

Gnarland 06-14-2015 07:12 PM

sorry for late response guys, been super busy. As of now i am running a CS tune for my DP, and intake, It is hands down the best one, ive tried a few and the one from CS was the best, car feels so much smoother, my shifting has turned to butter...
And theres no wheelhop at all. also it seems to have changed the way WOT feels, cause now WOT really fucking shows!

i have a TIP btw!

Worbit 06-15-2015 10:41 PM

Sorry Gnarland, I've been MIA the last few days. Did you get all the stage 1/2 maps?

What tune are you running (version) and what Stage?

MS3XY 06-26-2015 11:16 AM

These dealerships can't tell the difference between stock and modded lol that's funny.

I have the catback Corksport exhaust and it sounds awesome. I also have the DP sitting at home, can't wait to put that one.

Yeah I have ran into the same thing, took my car for a warranty issue and didn't take anything off. Either they couldn't tell or they don't care lol.

I'm assuming they can't tell the difference and they just don't care.. when I bought my car they didn't even check the tires.

Gnarland 12-01-2015 06:51 PM

BEEN a long time since ive posted back on this post for everyone, and i doubt anyone will actually see it but ive had the car almost 9 months already, and since the tune after the 2 months of having it, still no CEL. Car runs great, even in the colder weather everything is perfect! just broke 39k miles, been babying her for the most part, but damn im in love with this fucking car! Hope everyones doing good, and my next mod is to finish my turboback, so i dont just have the DP!

The tmic is oem.

You can not assume you have hpfp internals with 1800psi readings as my stockers did that as well. The only real way is to remove the pump and do a tear down otherwise you are running on borrowed time. Monitoring with the AP is your next best option.

I suggest donating then finding a nator somewhere close to you to have them assist with just making sure things are good to go and possibly looking at a datalog or 2 for you once you get the AP.

hey man really late posting to this, but im looking into finally getting the rest of my exhaust for this car. So from what the pics i showed you were basically saying it was all stock other then the downpipe? if so what downpipe? im just trying to find my part on CSs website so i can see what else i need to purchase. Gatta use my tax return somehow!! :p

i think CPE only makes a long downpipe. Which is downpipe and test pipe. So you would just need a cat back portion for your car.
