Plug Change

Couple of questions: how many miles on the OEM plugs before I should replace? Also, how much of a pain the ass is it to pull the intercooler to get to the plugs? The factory manual calls for removing just about everything but the fuel tank, which seems like overkill.

Pulling the intercooler should only take about 5 minutes. Thats really the only thing that you need to remove.

The factory workshop manual wants the battery, tray, etc, to come out first. BTW, thanks for the input.

Must be looking at a Porsche workshop manual.....

Just remove tmic and your good. Remove 3 nuts and a few hose clamps.

No pain in no asses. The intercooler comes right off. Put the manual down and just look at it.

How else would the dealership charge you 3 hours of labor for plus? Seriously though one you really look at it you will see its easy as hell.

Using bad grammar from my cell phone.

20,000 on these stockers, they still work great. NGK makes a great long lasting plug. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...55c4d5af64.jpg

60k miles. It's in the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual like every other car out there. If you see 120k in there, you're in the wrong section, that's for non-Mazdaspeed models. I don't know why ours only last half as long, but why question the manufacturer on things this cheap?

The NGK part number is SILTR6A-7G for OE replacement. If you add significantly more power, you must use a colder plug and change them more often...this and more can be found using the magical "search" feature...

My dealer told me 100k. I changed them around 55-60k and the car felt smoother.

I'm planning on swapping out my original plugs out for the NGK one step colder plugs in the next month when I hit 30K mi.
Just make sure they are gapped properly. I've never changed plugs before, but I'm sure it won't be that difficult. Helps that I already have an FMIC. [emoji6]

Once your tuned for stage 2 Cobb recommends you change them every 15k miles

If your stock or stage 1 I don't think there is a point in going lower then stock temp

Plug change completed. The original plugs looked like shit at 66000 miles, and the gaps had opened up to .035" plus. My only problem was dropping a socket and extension onto the undertray, but my creative woman rigged up a magnet on a string to retrieve it (I hate working under cars). Thanks for the encouragement all.

If the under tray is there and I drop a tool, screw, or socket onto it i just bounce the tray up and down till it falls off the back side of the tray.
