Question about the MS3 Bible above

4) Don't pass someone in 6th Gear!!
Just because the car is "turbo" doesn't mean it's appropriate to boost or "load" the engine up in 6th gear. Especially when it puts you at or under 3,000 rpms. If you're gonna pass, or go WOT, do so past 3,000 RPMS or kiss your motor good bye... one day..

^^^^What happens to make this detrimental to my engine^^^^

Now I know its been a while since I've owned anything with boost, and this is the first time I've owned anything with direct injection and boost, but I don't quite understand how this is going to be harmful to the engine

also I don't ever see a situation where i would do this, but the curiosity is itching me to know now lol

look the going theory is that because we have so much torque when you WOT at a low range it applies that torque for a longer period of time because of low rpms

dont know if i buy it myself

but regardless of IF it is bad to do it....WHY would you ever want too

have you ever WOT in 6 at 2500 rpm? shit doesnt move

better to just downshift rather than being lazy

This theory was developed when there was a rash of blown motors, and I guess this turned out to be the issue. Guys that ran a few bolt ons (intake, BOV, etc), and decided to gas it 6th on the factory tune experienced I believe a very short time when the car would lean out. 6th gear is also the gear the produces the most boost. I guess the combination of both is what is responsible for this problem. So get a Cobb AP, and you won't have to worry about this issue, or just no WOT in 6th under 3000k

I hardly ever WOT and still shift down to get going.

I love my car. She is so fucking fast!

Cheers,

G

yeah like I said I could never see a reason or a situation where I would honestly do it, I guess just the mechanics of it had me curious

I think it is because it is more fun to drop it into 4th to pass!:13:

PS-where is the Bible?

Do you happen to know of anyone with upgraded HPFP who blew their engines this way? There just seem to be fewer reports of this sort of thing since the need for upgraded fuel pump internals has become so universally recognized. If so, I wonder whether the warning against WOT in low RPM 6th gear is as important anymore (with upgraded internals).

It would still be pointless, tho. Downshift, for crying out loud!

Unlike the actual bible, the MS3 one is full of truth and fact.
