Has anyone had any of the Rocky Mountain Radars ?

Some have the radar/laser scramblers built in and come with a ticket warranty.. But wasn't sure if they are any good

Typically can not be seen unless window is down and person is leaning in (5% tint all the way around helps too). Hope that helps, regardless of which you install.

My issue is that my dashcam is in that spot already. We also have an issue here of smash and grab robberies, so anything electronic that is visible is up for grabs from these assholes.
I've bought an ashtray insert and want to possibly fabricate it into a mount for the SR7's control unit.

I'm thinking I'm going to stick with this unit.

Does anyone know if the 9500ix detects cop cars who are in traffic? Not necessarily posted up on the side of the freeway with a radar gun. Got my first speeding ticket tonight with a state trooper who was in traffic with me and I didn't notice him. Thanks for the help

Depends what he used to tag you.
Did he actually show you a reading from a gun or just estimated your speed based on yours?

He used his speedometer reading and guessed. I didn't think it would be possible to detect him but it might be haha

That's not how it works. These detectors are used to detect laser, K band and Ka band signals that the cops use with radars.
It doesn't eliminate the human factor.
That said, you might have a chance to fight that ticket as he doesn't have an accurate metric for how fast you were going.

Yeah I knew the whole k band and ka band reading and everything. I was just wondering if it's possible, but thanks for informing me. The cop was being a complete dick and I hope I can get out of it

Where I come from some if the K band units use a ground pulse to measure the police car speed. Sometimes you can pick that up even when the main radar is in stealth mode. I got saved a few times like that before detectors were banned in 1990.

Apart from the cop being a dick, were you speeding and was his estimate accurate? If so why should you get out of it? I copped an estimate of 100km/hr in an 80 zone a few years ago because the estimate was spot on.

V1 and 9500xi are both great. This one has been debated for years and they're very comparable. That being said, the Escort XR looks to be pretty badass.

I use a Whistler CR90 with Intellicord in the Speed. My Jeep has a 17 year old Cobra ESD 9000 that has paid for itself countless times over since new.

It is like comparing a Smart TV to a dumb TV

V1 is great at picking up everything...everything means exactly that. This might have been good before there were K bands at stores, traffic signs, toll roads, and of course police officers. The V1 will do the most unnoticeable thing and wear a user out on alerts, naturally making the user start ignoring alerts; which could be false or true. Basically V1 is behind the curve on intelligence, and I would most closely compare it to the Redline which at the very least filters out some false alarms, but outperforms the V1 in distance and reaction speed.

Meh,

One thing the V-1 has is the update option.

Another is the arrows.

Another is the plethora of false alarms for every door sensor in the universe.

Lately I've been running the STI due to it's quieter nature on the interstates in IL
with all the construction zones. V-1 goes off every 2 miles or so.

8500 X50 with X and K turned off, and a Laser Interceptor 8.9. Ka and Lidar are the only two threats
I see often enough to pay any mind - I only turn on the X and K annoyance bands for long trips into unknown places.

I disagree about turning K off...About 2 month ago, I got hit with an extremely strong K, forcing me to slow down; good thing I did there were 4 troopers sitting around the corner pulling cars over.

However X...yeah turn that shit off

agreed, definitely can turn off X band. Some cops still use K band though, recently saw a pack of state troopers using K

I picked up my V1 back in March with my other first mods and driving around on Long Island there are definitely WAY more false alarms than actual threats. That being said, most of my driving is around town, almost never on the highway so there are a lot of signs, businesses, homes etc. that use X and K and even sometimes Ka band (usually those radar check speed signs). IMO the v1 can get pretty annoying going off all the time, but it also tends to keep me constantly monitoring for threats, plus the arrows are a nifty feature too.

The only way your radar detector would have detected him, is if he had his radar gun turned on and his signals were bouncing off other cars. A lot of cops around my neighborhood do this and so it is easy to know when to be mindful of my speed. Otherwise, you just have to be on the lookout for them, especially when you are driving faster than everyone else on the road.

Just last month, I saw a guy in a Mustang merge onto the highway at a considerably faster speed than everyone else. At the next on-ramp a state trooper merged into the highway, which I couldn't see because a truck was blocking my view, but my radar detector was already alerting me. The guy in the Mustang apparently never saw him as he proceeded to overtake the car ahead of him at high speed, right in front of the state trooper, who was driving just behind in the middle lane. Needless to say, the guy was caught instantly.

I agree with the people that say it is better off saving money for a real radar detector from a reputable brand. I am still satisfied with my now 4 year old Escort PASSPORT 8500 X50. It has paid for itself more times than I can remember.

I have my X turned off, and do not plan to turn it back on...

That is extremely shitty though, but it sure sounds like he knows what he is doing.

I'm still doing fine with my Passport Escort SR7 with laser shifters.
I leave the whole detector off in the city as I'm very rarely ever speeding, it's really on the highways that I use mine and for that I've detected a number of events successfully. Especially when I do road trips in the US, where highway patrol LOVE to target Canadian travelers.

I have been using my 9500i for many years now and have used it in many vehicles and love it. I need to get another hard wire kit so i can get rid of the cord hanging from my mirror down.

I'm still good with my 8500 nonx50 model. Works fine, seems to detect any cop around.

Obviously using a Radar detector is only a secondary defense, the smartest defense is keeping a watchful eye and being smart about when and where you speed. Of course, the only proven way to not get a ticket is to not speed. Lol. Typically I only use my Radar Detector when I'm data logging 3rd and 4th gear pulls, or on 1+ hour drives. Definitely not a daily thing for me cause I just don't drive fast on my normal commute.

There is no reason a used one shouldn't work fine. If you go VIP you can post a Want To Buy ad in the For Sale section and maybe someone has one to get rid of.
