Rattle at idle 1 Attachment(s) Was on a base map tonight and pulled some WOT logs for the new e-tuner. Car is now making a loud rattle noise at idle, when I rev it doesn't seem to increase, really sounds like it's coming from the AT Internals but really hard to tell. Didn't notice the clutch pedal pulsating or anything. Here is a video of the noise, obviously dark as it's late here. Any ideas? Car: 2012 MS3 with 45k on it AT Internals CS Turbo at spring pressure HTP 3" intake CS Catted DP 3" resonated mid-pipe Stock axle-back Cobb FMIC |
Definitely sounds like something UP TOP for sure.. Hopefully just the Pump |
Did you just install the AT internals, or have you had them a while and this is a new sound? Internals are loud as shit, the first time I drove into a parking garage after installing mine I freaked out and stopped the car so I could pop the hood and figure out what the noise was. |

I have had them on for awhile, probably 25-30k on them. It's a coincidence that I JUST changed to an E-tuner as a local enthusiast was doing it for me for the longest time until I started leaning out in some cells on e85 with the CS Turbo. He suggested an e-tuner to see if it's tune related or not. Car has been so reliable and ALWAYS consistent with power. Car is/was on it's Base map 93oct from new tuner so it's spring pressure and shit for timing so really doubtful it's internal in the crank. Just not super sure where it is on the top yet. That video was right to the left of the fuel pump right over the valve cover. Not as noticeable to the left (passenger side Only recent installation was a Synapse valve. |
I can't listen to the clip at work, so I'm just shooting in the dark. Use a stethoscope or piece of hose to track down the location. |
internals spin faster as you rev the engine so if that's it the rattle will increase in frequency. Definitely stethoscope it though, it's an easy and quick way to figure out noises like this |
***Update 9/30*** After driving it around during lunch today I am almost 100% certain it's the AutoTech's, can also hear them rattle up to a little under 2k rpm, anything over that and engine has it's normal sounds. Noticed that at idle it wasn't as loud tonight but can still hear it revving under 2kpm, sounds like throttle tip-in noise but steadier. Not too concerned at this point, not sure if I am going to pull the assembly and clean them + stick them in my ass or buy a new set and just put them in the assembly. I don't mind buying another one, I'm happy with them. |
