Rear ended- DIY, Body Shop, involve insurance?

Someone hit me in a parking lot (car was parked), must have been a high vehicle. Seems like a low speed impact from the damage. No note was left, checked that there were no cameras in the parking lot, nothing.

Is this DIY fixable easily or would I just be getting myself into another headache? The hatch still opens and closes and the quarter panel / bumper seems OK.

I assume whatever frame is behind the skin on the hatch is also fucked bad and needs to be replaced, along with the tail light and anything else that might be back there.

Rather not raise my insurance rates either way for something like this.

I'd pop off the the trim around the hatch and make sure nothing's buckled, especially around the latch. If everything seems straight I'd buy a junkyard hatch, have it painted to match if you can't find a white one, and tail light, and call it a (shitty) day.

Damn that sucks. How do people damage someone's car like that and just leave?

I'd just go through insurance. You have it for a reason. Use it!

Time for a carbon fiber hatch.

On a more serious note, I've got a driver's side reverse light. It's scratched up, not in perfect condition, but better than nothing. Just pay for shipping and it's yours. I can get you a quote tomorrow, would be via UPS.

Is this the only CF option?
Searching for Mazda 3 Trunk? We make the best in quality and selection. Vis Racing Sports Inc.

If the standard OEM hatch would cost me $600 out of pocket (according to onlinemazdaparts... do they come unpainted?), not sure its worth it to dump $500 more for CF. Any comments on fitment issues just out of curiosity?

Car-Part.com has a used one for ~450.

Reason I didn't want to go through insurance is if this whole endeavor can be solved by buying the hatch for $450-700, light and emblem, then after deductible it doesnt make sense to raise my rates. Thats why I posted this feeler, so I knew if I was in over my head and this could be a $2000 endeavor.

I will pop off the plastic trim inside and check it out for damaged components.

You can get it on eBay for $800 shipped

A carbon fiber hatch sounds super unsafe if there was to be another rear ending. That hatch will just explode to bits. Not to mention you could have fitment issues all over the place. I'd go with a stocker hatch.

Hope karma catches up with the creep that did that to your car. I'm considering dash cams front and rear for this very reason.

Good luck on the repairs man.
