Rmm help please... Ok so I put my rmm in and now when I start off in 1st gear it like clunks but not really it sounds like it's about to stall out, and it does it a little when I down shift... Is this normal? Does it just need some wear? Are the bolts not tight enough? Anything would help thanks |
Make sure it's tightened up completely. There will certainly be more vibration, especially in first gear when starting the car. It should subside with break in. |
I just installed mine today and it did the same thing, lots of clunking. I jacked it up and tightened everything as tight as I could get it and now it's fine. |
That even happens on the MS6. It's more you getting used to having the RMM on there than anything the RMM is changing. You have to change how you start off in 1st because the power is transferred more quickly now. No more uber-soft Mazda bushing to be squishy and unresponsive. It'll get better, but check that everything is properly torqued just in case. Wait until the first time you try to launch.... |
What's it need to be torqued too? |
I doesn't say in the instructions? |
JBR RMM is torqued to 70ft-lbs for all the bolts. I hope that helps, check it the next week and it was perfect. I used bleu loctite on all bolts and nuts. |

Tighten it tight as fuck. |
You'll get used to it. Is it bad that I never use a torque wrench? I just try to use the same amount of force to tighten the bolt as I did to remove it. |

Yep, at least 70 lb-ft. I've never had any clunking with mine. What kind is it, and how high is the duro? |
If your clunking noise persist, check and retorque your sway bar bracket bolts. |

@sellers! This ones for u good buddy. Oh yeah, sorry bud :( But seriously op, mine made a clunk at first and tightening eliminated this. It really should only be noticeable when u don't pull away from a stop well (other than the obvious slight vibe from a firmer mount). Maybe your torque wrench is off? |

I upped the torques specs a bit so we can avoid some of these issues with mounts making noise. It's still very important to check the bolts after a few hundred miles. Thanks, Jamie |

Mine clunked because I cross threaded the nut and ended up stripping the nut when tightening. Got a new bolt/nut and when I torqued it, all is well. |
If you ruin the threads that fasten the main bolt connecting the RMM to the sub frame you'll have to buy a whole new sub frame (~ $1500.00 parts / labor). You can probably do a temporary Jerry-rig that may or may not stand the test of time. |

^^^ that is what normal people do when they fuck up threads. |

well mine is fine just the normal vibes with a/c on and when i strt of in 1st gear. |
A good mechanic can drill and tap it for a bigger bolt. But same bolt needs to fit the motor mount. |
Just tighten it more. You get rattling when it isnt tight enough |
