rpms below 3k on high gear questions i recently bought a new 2011 ms3 and this is also my first turbo car, i have been reading that theres some apparent problems whenever you are in 5th gear or 6th gear and being under 3k rpms. Can someone shed some light on this, i drive about 15miles to work on highways and this is very concerning to me. |

Welcome, this site will provide you with invaluable information about your Speed3 over the years your own it, so feel free to donate! Its really not a Mazdaspeed specific rule, high load in high gears on any powertrain isn't advisable. There have been members who have gone Zoom Zoom Boom by doing it, but most of them have been modded to a degree. There are tones of threads discussing this very thing, search around a bit and you'll find more info. |
If you're cruising you have nothing to worry about. Don't go WOT though until upwards of around 3,000. Most likely, nothing will happen if you do though. Most blow because of bad tunes. |
how bout this, don't ever floor it on 5th and 6th. |

Don't get me wrong here, anything above 2nd I'll build up boost then go WOT. I never try to go nuts with anything below 3,000; except for 1 & 2. You need to form a relationship with her. Just don't fuck her over. She doesn't like that. |

More like this, OP don't ever floor it in 5th or 6th below about 3000 RPM's. You will gain nothing anyway as you will be off boost until around 3000 RPM's anyway.... |
Do this experiment the next time you're on an on ramp to the highway. Get into 5th or 6th gear, and make sure the car is around 1500 RPM or so, now, floor it. What happens? Does the car go Zoom-Zoom, or does the car go Pause-Pause-Pause-Pause, and then Zoom-Zoom? Also, try riding a geared bike, and go from a stand still in the highest possible gear. Now do the same thing from a stand still in a low gear...which is easier on your legs? The same applies to your cars engine. |

Long story short, don't lug the engine with unnecessary strain. Once you get a feel for your car, you'll be able to predict when flooring the pedal will result in the engine straining to catch up. The e-throttle is nice this way, engineers can program the ECU to react to dumbass situations like this. Solution: downshift before going zoom. |

i guess the same reason holds true if you start with second gear? i don't usually do this but sometime when the car is going really slow, i don't shift to first to start moving, unless the car is completely stopped. |

Of course, it's a little difficult to dump the clutch in 2. But I don't recommend doing that either way for daily driving. Ricer mod, for the win! |
