Saw first Focus ST on road

So I am getting on the highway (still making my swooping turn on the On Ramp) when out of the corner of my eye I see this all blacked out car. Of course I turn my head and see driving past me a new Focus ST. I got all excited and floored it. Got up next to him and gave him a little pull. Nothing! Oh well. I was getting off soon so I just pulled away because he was driving real slow in right lane. Weird but it looked like he had the car for awhile now because it already had tinted windows (fronts were illegal, too dark) and no dealer plate or temp tag but a standard plate. I will admit in all black it looked great.

I saw some kid, probably just out of high school, test driving a banana yellow Focus Street Turd the other day on my way home from work. If you can't find it grind it right cause that's all I could hear from take off.

from all that ive heard, focus st drivers and soon-to-be or wannabe drivers have huge egos. we as mazdaspeed owners must bring them back down to reality.

Saw an ugly ass yellow one on my way home from visiting my GF's family in virginia beach...too bad we were in her CR-V. I pointed it out and told her that it was supposed to be competition to the speeds. She replied, "oh, that's nice....ugly as shit though."

Props to her. Honestly I think it looks like an old Daewoo. Ford has really gone aggressive with many of their designs lately, like the new Escape, and Explorer. But this one, where it should be aggressive, is actually just too plain.

I like the exterior styling minus the front bumper, however the interior is god awful. Not a fan of the look of the recaros either. Looks like they belong on the space shuttle. lol.

I really like the idea of the focus ST, and the execution seems to be pretty good as well.

But... after tuning closed loop for mpg and open loop for hp - I'm getting the same gas mileage and a lot more power. Is my car ugly? You bet your ass. But it's also very good to drive and economical when I'm not driving it like a methed up lunatic.

well you know the saying to each there own, we all know that we are going to be called haters, and all the st fan club members are going to say that the st is better then the speed3 and we are going to say no the ms3 is a far superior car then the st then there is going to be a huge forum war then we are going to have new stickers that say FYSTN and after the dust is cleared the speed 3 will be sitting on top, and the st boys are going to be looking at us like why can that not be us.

we all drive mehzduhspeeds and we all have uncontrollable torque steer ALL the time.

idk what these reviewers are smokin, but I never noticed tq steer when my car was stock. I get it now that Im putting down a good amount of power, but not stock. no.

IMO the seats and the engine are the only respectable qualities the ST has.

ya I thought those comments where funny my self, and I loved his comment about the exhaust tone of the st as if it is a was generated and not the actual engine sound.

I considered one before I got the MS3. It came out too late for me and the price tag is near or over 30K for most of them right now the dealers will order- well equipped. They advertise mid twenties although I doubt many dealers will order them in the less equipped package. And some dealers will probably price gouge too.

Not a bad car- the spec's on paper closely resemble the MS3. The gas mileage rating is way better though. I am waiting for a head to head comparison from Motortrend, Road and Track, etc. -someone is going to do it. And also hearing from someone on the forum who gets to challenge one- let's see how you do!

GTi will win. Always does in magazine comparisons because automotive journalists love swanky interiors. The ST will get second place, because it doesn't have torque(steer). The MS3 will come last because it has a gaudy interior and the "dern steerin' wheel bucks when'ver I tra to derv ferst!"

Save you money on those rags and test drive the cars before making your decision.

Me being a former focus enthusiast (owned one back in the day) I love it. I think honestly the focus just brings all the tech ford is throwing in all the cars so yeah it can get expensive. But for 26 it has partail leather recaros (similar to the cloth leather combo) and to me thats reasonable. Since the ST and MS3 are similar on many fronts we must unit against all the GTIs and send em back where they came from. Dooshland

Looks like the ST got 0.96g on the skidpad... that's better than the MS3... but I bet if the MS3 had better stock tires it'd be similar (the ST's are stickier AND wider). Thoughts? Also, since 1/4 mile times/trap speeds are a slightly better indicator of straight line performance than 0-60 times in a FWD car, the ST's 14.6 seconds @ 95.2 mph shows me that once the cars get rolling (after about the same 0-60 time depending on the driver), the MS3 has a significant amount more kick.
Focus is still a nice car... but I'm getting tired of biased, torque-steer-hating magazine reviews.

I test drove one of these ugly ass over priced pieces of junk last Thursday. Only thing I liked about it was the recaro seats. Everything else was just awful. Power and handling just felt too controlled to have fun and looks/styling make me want to puke.

I thought torque steer meant our car was a race car. If these guys would grab the steering wheel like a man then they would not notice it.

But I think the ST will get a better review then the GTI and the speed 3 will get biased reviews cause they are scared of a little aggressive power.

Usually the newest and latest offering wins in the mag comparisons. Since the GTI and MS3 have been out for a while and are virtually unchanged, the Focus ST is a new breed and I would expect it to get the win. It might not necessarily be the fastest in every category, although it will still most likely win the required number of categories to win. We will eagerly wait and see.
