Scary/good find 3 Attachment(s) So I bought a 2010 used mazda speed3 and keep finding parts the dealer did not notice. So far I know the car has a cobb tip and sir. This morning i had the car on a lift and discovered it has a cobb dp as well or maybe a knock off. Wanted to know what you guys thought about it. I looked at all of the installed pictures on this web site and it looks the same but with one minor change. The o2 sensor has a weird dish like piece of metal around it. Can anyone help me figure out what it is? I am going to try and get the contact info for the guy that sold the car to the dealership so I can get the complete mod list from him. If he did not do autotech internals yet should I get those first and install them or just drive the car easy and get an access port first? Good news is I dont have to buy a dp now, bad news is I do not know what other parts are on the car....fml. |
its a heat shield, its a good thing; if you are planning on mods, please get internals first (SRI first is ok, but you already have a DP, is it catted?) find out about internals, they are pretty easy to remove, DP not so much, possible that someone didn't want to go through the pain of removing the DP, or they got you on a good start). |
Yes, that is a Cobb downpipe, though it looks like it's been painted/coated. And the stock primary O2 sensor usually has that plate around it like that, so that looks normal. |

From what I understand, you can pop your motor even going partial throttle without internals so simply babying it might not be good enough. If you have a little bit of wrenching skill and some tools, you can pull the pump and inspect it pretty quickly. It's really not a hard job and there are plenty of videos on youtube and threads here that explain the procedure in great detail. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. |
heh, you might actually be safer at WOT without internals, a lot of ZZB's occur at partial throttle. but I wouldn't test that theory. |
Don't get heavy into boost or wot and you'll be ok with the fp until you get Shit sorted. |

looks like a cobb. not a cheap part at least. |
Definitely necessitates going on a fact finding mission with the internals... Be glad that DP is in there though - not that fun of a job to do and you have a good DP! |

Fuck! Ok thanks guys. I will try and get that done tonight! Ok so I will not go into boost until I find out. Should getting an access port on there and checking the fuel pressure be good enough to figure it out or do I really need to open her up? I only have experience with installing intakes and exhaust so I am not all that good at wrenching. |
It's a pretty simply install/uninstall. Ap probably won't tell much unless you do a wot log and fp dips, but that's very risky. Theres a great how to on here and maybe you can ask your local NATOR |
and I see it has a cat (grainy photo but its there) if you are handy with tools opening the HPFP and checking the internals isn't difficult and there are plenty of photos on forum that show the differences. look at the fuel line on the bottom of the hpfp, if there is a cable tie (to stop that stupid clip) you at least know someone had improved internals in place once (might have parted them out). |
Ok guys GREAT new! So the guy did leave the auto tech internals in the pump! Thank you sweet baby Jesus! Now onto the next issiue. Am I in dire need of a ap now since he said he un flashed the ecu? Thanks for the help guys! They are worth every penny! |

That's what I thought. Just ordered a v3. I am going to wait on the etune until I get my build finished. |
did he tell you what else was left on? you might have gotten a great head start. |
Everything in my signature minus the ap and bpv. |
Did you do a compression check? There is usually a reason, one would unload a fully bolted car. |
Quote:
++ for the compression check. number 3 seems pesky on these. |
He sold It to the dealership I work at. Everything looked good from the mech that worked on it. He sold it to buy and suv because he is starting a fam. He was going to unbolt It but never got to it. |
Be glad you didn't to tackle that bitch of an install |
So should I get it compression tested even if it is running fine and my shop said it was in good shape? It goes off warranty in a few thousand miles so I think that's the main reason he sold. |
We just had a local guy ditch a nearly fully bolted speed for a 370Z. Didn't take anything off. Sometimes people just do it. Get the compression test done though make sure it's good to go. Murica' |
Just pull the pump to see. It doesn't take long at all |
