Default Shop scratched my wheels!

I got my car back from being aligned last week and when I went to wash it today I noticed that every single lug nut hole on every wheel was scratched. These wheels are brand new and didn't have more than 5 miles on them before I took the car in to get aligned.

I know they were being lazy and used an air wrench. My questions is what would you guys do about this? Think it's crazy to go down there and demand they buy the wheels? Should I just let it go? I'm pretty pissed.

This is what every lug hole on every wheel looks like:

I had a local shop refinish my wheels but the scratches were more visible and I went back the next day. Pics of wheels on car?

That looks like the work of a careless tech.

I would go talk to them and see how they respond.

go there in a polite manner though. then you can change your approach dependent on what happens.

I would go back, that's just awful.

I will be polite at first, but I know damn well they will first say it wasn't them, and then go on to say they won't pay for it anyways.

I know plenty of mechanics personally, and they're usually not the most honest people. I don't want to go in there without some kind of leverage.

When I went to check the torque after I saw the scratches they were over 90lbft each.

Go back to the shop that did the wheels and show them. Heck even show them the receipt that shows you just bought the wheels.

I had mr.tire put new tires on my car and they messed up all the wheels and they refinished all of them. Sadly a couple of months later one screwed itself up and they blamed it on me for something I washed the car with. bastards...good thing they were only the stockers tho..

So if it was your wheels on your Evo you would just say forget it?
I know I wouldn't. I wouldn't go nuts but I would definitely get them to fix them.

Yep, that's what that impact wrench will do if they don't have the clearance around the socket. Tuner lugs may have helped since they are thinner and come with their own socket....none of mine are fucked up and they impact them off/on without issues. I would still go in and see if they'll do anything, best of luck!

Buy something like this to avoid this in the future: Gorilla Small Diameter Lugs (21133HT)

Edit: Those are may not be the exact ones, just an example.

Spent about 30 minutes trying to reason with them but the owner just wouldn't have it. He says that since it's been 5 days since I picked up my car that I can't prove that it was them who caused the damage. He said the best he could do was to have his friend repair them. On top of it all he tried to tell me that they didn't use an impact wrench at all.

I told him I was going to go to contact the Bureau of Consumer Protection and the Bureau of Automotive Repair and he just laughed. Does anyone know someone who works for either of these agencies? I'm definately going to report these guys, and I could use some help.

We have a set of these at the shop I manage, I even bought a set for my toolbox a home. They feel cheap to me, but so far they've done a good job at work and at home, so well worth the $40 to not damage customers' wheels...

the shop has every right to refuse to accept responsibility after FIVE DAYS...that is a long time.

you can contact the Better Business Bureau, they would be your best help.

But don't expect anything to come from this, other than the offer the manager/owner already gave you...which was to repair the damage. And that is a perfectly acceptable offer. You wouldn't expect them to buy you a new car if the scratched your paint would you?..no, you would have them repair the damage.

This is honestly the only site I've ever been on where there is atleast 2 threads a week about someone bitching their wheels are messed up on the inside of the lug holes.Jesus some of you are real anal retentive bastards.you can't see it unless your 6 inches from the wheels looking for it.

It's going to happen eventually.I'd hate to see what happens when you find out another guy is banging your wife.can't go and complain to somebody about that

It's going to happen eventually.I'd hate to see what happens when you find out another guy is banging your wife.can't go and complain to somebody about that
its because wheels are expensive, and you don't want someone else damageing them.

everyone knows it "will" happen...but noone is happy when it does. And when its done because a shop was negligent, it pisses the owner off more.

I have 3 different sets of sockets for different kind of rims. Snap on sells low profile impact sockets for rims with smaller bores.

At work it comes in handy to have the right tool. It really sucks that other technicians/mechanics can't treat your car as if it were their own. I know I treat every car with the same respect as if I owned it.

oh btw it looks like your using the wrong lugnuts. spline lugnuts would of prevented them from being scratched with a wrong socket

They need to use a thin wall socket when working with wheels like that, but even then it just takes a little carelessness.

All the techs at my work use torque sticks on the impact guns when putting wheels back on, I would imagine others do the same, so I can see why it looks like they are just wrenching them down with air tools to you guys.

And if you think shop is going to use anythign but an impact gun to remove nuts, youre crazy.

That sucks man I'm sorry :[

Shit happens though, when I had my new tires put on my new rims, I made sure to specifically ask them to not use an air wrench on my new lugs, they were more than happy/understanding to torque by hand.

Gotta keep an eye on your shit! I always choose to wait and watch. I never drop off!

I did that for my alignment as well haha.

Again, sorry op :[

Got a check from their insurance company that was higher than the cost of the wheels (they were reproductions).

Yes stuff like this DOES happen all the time- doesn't clear them of responsibility. They damage it- they pay.

Brand and specs of wheels in question?

MB Motoring/XXR/similar? Who cares if they are scratched.

HRE's? Time to commit arson.

EDIT: on phone and didn't see the original image. OZ's huh? Could be worse. Might be worth following up on the "have friend repair" option.

This is why I do all my own work.

Nobody to blame, but yourself.

OP, is your MS3 a show car?

Do you wipe it with a diaper every day?

Have you ever done a wot pull?

Does your wife/girlfriend keep your dick and balls in a mason jar under the sink?

Stop bitching. They're wheels. They're gonna get fucked up whether you do it, the road does it, or a sloppy mechanic does it.

Besides, that so called damage is miniscule.

I'm glad someone else feels this way. I cracked the paint on one of my fenders while pulling it. I don't like it, but I tell people that it's my daily and a race car, not a show car. scratches and dents happen. My wheels look like hell up close and my hood and roof have a terrible paint job from a repair. You can't tell from 10 feet away and the car drives perfectly, why complain?

Do you realize this thread is 6 months old?

And for the record, in these past 6 months I haven't gotten one more scratch on my wheels. Just the damage from the lazy mechanic when they were brand new.

You see, this may seem ridiculuous to you, but many people actually like to take good care of things they own. Perhaps, like me, they didn't grow up with much, so they really appreciate what they have. And when other's don't, it makes them angry.

Differences of opinion on car care aside, it's pretty sad you go so far out of your way to insult someone who you've never met, rant about something that has nothing to do with you, and in a 6 month old thread no less. Your life must be shitty.

You're just another angry douchbag here. Go fuck yourself.
