SKYACTIV-D 2.2L Race Engine

1 Attachment(s)
Mazda just unveiled their new "race version" of the SKYACTIV-D (see Twitter/Facebook, etc.) and will soon be releasing details/numbers and revealing the production vehicle for which this engine is intended.

Any chance the new Speed3 will get it for 2013/2014? Or will the production version just be a ~160hp/massive torque engine for a regular Mazda 3 or CX-5 application. Thoughts/discuss?

intake manifold looks nicce

shadesofgray19 06-02-2012 07:44 AM

I think it may go in a redesigned 6.

86AmishMs3 06-02-2012 07:47 AM

I like how it's in the corner, inside of some old fucking house.....

It's a performance diesel motor. We'll never see it on a street production vehicle.

Dr. Speed 06-02-2012 08:05 AM

Yeah, a lot of speculation puts this in the 2014 6... but maybe a speed version afterwards? If Mazda keeps anything "Mazdaspeed", do you think they'll use a version of this engine, or a turbo SKYACTIV-Gas?

This:

***EDIT: You might be right though... this DOES say "production version"... so it might not be quite the same :(

Chimmike 06-02-2012 09:21 AM

I'll shit a golden brick if Mazda brings a diesel motor here in the next 2 years. Srsly.

SSinstaller 06-02-2012 09:40 AM

I'd guess this is intended for the CX series crossovers that will benefit most from the extra torque.

dan7225 06-02-2012 09:45 AM

Twin turbos? Nice!

Roddiy 06-02-2012 10:10 AM

Twin turbo diesel ftmfw.

Doubt they'll bring it to the US though.

exactly. for now we have to settle with the shit TDI (decent motor in shit car) or spend a crap ton on bmw or merc.

chasgrady 06-02-2012 10:23 AM

It will come to the US, there's going to be a version of it in the 6, the CX-5 and possibly the redesigned CX-9, the turbo setup on the Skyactiv-D engine is like Ford's 6.4 Powerstroke, small turbine to get it going and big turbine to keep it there, hopefully they see fit to put this in a new Speed, our engine is already more like a diesel than gas in the way it produces power down low, plus Audi has made it work for racing, let's see what it does

says 186 hp and 309 ft/lbs of torque

For everyone thinking that diesel anything is going to be the tits.

Let me google that for you

Tomas 06-02-2012 10:21 PM

It's not twin turbo.
It's sequential. Also called 2 stage. One small turbo feeds a larger one.

cesaros 06-02-2012 10:24 PM

so mazda JUST unveiled this...and you ask if its going to be in a 2013/14 production car?

wow, you really expect quick turn around on prototype/race inspired hardware :haha:

expect to see somthing close in another 3-5 years maybe, if you're lucky

Kellerspeed3 06-02-2012 10:51 PM

The guys at my dealer here in Texas say by 2014 in will be in a CX-5, Mazda spent a shit load of money on the CX-5, pretty much bet the company on the sky active concepts. I doubt they are gonna fuck around for years on this, I'd say by 2014 they'll have in the CX-5 for sure other trims anybody's guess. Also heard the speed3 will have minor changes but is kinda on the back burner while Mazda concentrates on the skyactive cars, now granted this is all hear say but it's from a 30 year employee and upper management guy. Take it with a grain of salt if you like its just what I was told when I asked about it.

Fantasma 06-05-2012 03:05 AM

damn 300 tq in a Cx5 will it be called mazdaspeedcx5

Hamilton69 06-05-2012 03:09 AM

from what i have heard this is going in the mazda6/cx5's in the near future...from what keller said^ the cx5 is a hope of turning the company around, and although this is the performance version that would take a while to turn around into production, the "base" model of this engine should be ready in the next year or two, i heard about it about a year ago so maybe even sooner
