smoking like a diesel (2012)
 

So just picked up my second ms3 ( had an 08) about 900 miles ago... I bought the 08 brand new as well and figured the break in process was about the same. I havent really gotten on my car because I don't wanna beat on it too soon. Anyhow I got on it the other day and it blew smoke like a diesel. Car had been on and running for a bit so it was warm. Its happened both times I've gotten on it. Perhaps I should change the oil, or this is just the engines way of breaking itself in. I know the amount of soot our cars produce, I'm used to that. I know the turbo isn't blown. So I'm just trying to get some input if this is the norm. Thanks in advance

If it's black smoke, it's pretty normal. These cars run uber rich from the factory and blow a shitload of black smoke when you stomp on it.

I figured. Being myself I'm so skeptical of everything about this car after all the shit that people had go wrong on our first gens. I just need that reassurance

Iv'e got bout 9k on a 2011 smokes like a mother when full boost. It is black smoke but dense enough you can see it in rearview mirror. Let's people behind you know you are leaving........quick!

A friend of mine bought a genpoo a couple months ago and it blows black nasty all over the fucking place way worse than my gen1 does. He has to scrub the back of his car to get all the soot off.

Get an AP and tune it?

Interesting. I figured decent AFR's would clear it up some.

After driving like a grandpa for a couple days, mine will blow black smoke at WOT the first few times I do it. Its totally normal. Don't worry about it.

I bought my 11 new, didn't get on it too hard till 2000 miles, blew black smoke like a bitch!!! I'm now at 11800 and the black smoke is still there but noticeably less intense. No ap,Dp, or internals. Meh, my advice is keep bangin on it till it behaves. Worked for me.

Now go spew a big black cloud on a diesel pickup.

I like to blow smoke on people til they quit tailgaiting, its effective.

FWIW, my Gen1 smoked like crazy with the -1 colder plugs, smokes a LOT less with the -2 colder plugs.
